Why this show has lasted 21 years
al_and_tam16 April 2024
This 1000th episode demonstrates why NCIS has been such an enduring franchise. The writing is consistently excellent. The characters are well cast, well acted and seem to genuinely care about each other. There is something for everyone here: Drama, suspense, family, love, history, mystery, grief, joy, conflict, reconciliation. All of these themes are touched on in this episode. It is a wonderful photo album of memories for those of us who have watched since this was a back door pilot on JAG. It shows the quality of the show that this episode would be just as good as an introduction to the NCIS world. It would definitely make you want to binge watch from season 1 in order to get up to date on the rich history of the franchise. A nostalgic nod to 21 years of great work. Excuse me. I have to go wipe my eyes and blow my nose now.

Never Take your Parents for Granted

I have loved this show from the debut in 2003. No matter what it never disappoints. This episode how it flashed back to all of the old team mates and got me in the feels. It made me cry for the first time making me remember my Dad who passed away almost three months ago. I wanted to talk to him today and it hit me that i couldn't. I am glad that Leon and Jarrod made amends. I am a 55 year old man and I cried for the first time in a long time.

It was good to see a call back to the beginning of the series. I also forgot there was a time when McGee wasn't in the show. I miss Gibbs and Ducky but the show is still good. I was afraid it was the final episode ever. I am glad it isn't.

Warning: Spoilers
The writers of NCIS have done it again. This episode brought in the former cast members, new cast members and characters from the various spin offs in an attempt to solve this mysterious case.

Jordan has been off the show for so long and I love how they brought him back in to the fold. Playing of the history of the show's first episode was brilliant in my opinion.

I loved beginning with the obviously stained relationship between Jordan and Leon at Jackie's grave until the end of the show with a little more understanding on both sides. I was happy to hear where Kayla ended up. I don't recall hearing anything about her NCIS career after she was shipped out of Washington DC.

Working the first episode in to an an actual time-line was fun to see. The attacks on NCIS past and present made me smile to see former faces.

Thank you to the writers for their creative juices on this one. You guys have had some tough things to write about lately.

Just a few issues...

Warning: Spoilers
I am an NCIS fan and have watched the show for years. Generally like most of it. It gets a bit campy sometimes but the sentiments are good. I have to suspend disbelief a bit here and there but there a few things with this episode that I just need to point out, all concerning the women protagonist. First, very few people could make the 1000 yard shot to begin with. Those people would have had a long history of weapons training and sniper practice. Even using the rifle needed for a shot like that would take extra training. 3 months of some local gun class would not be enough unless she is a 1 in a million case. Also, and please don't take this the wrong was as I am only pointing out historical statistics not offering my personal opinion, the vast majority of the time women don't use that kind of premeditated violence to kill. Please feel free to look up some stats on this from Psych or History or Criminology. Generally, women only use physical violence to kill only if they are fighting in self defense. As far as pre-meditaion goes, Females are usually very smart and tend to kill in passive ways that are harder to trace. Personally I see this as a sign of greater insight and emotional intelligence in women. Like she would have had the kid introduce them and then would have killed him stealthily. Also she was smart enough to figure out about the tech guy and then hack his company but not smart enough to verify the junk he was feeding her online? Any good psych would rip up a projected personality like that as contradictory. Also these days a name change would have come up on a federal backround check sooner, and Tim would have figured out the AirForceOne target without having to talk to her given the context. Otherwise an interesting episode especially with all the historical throwbacks from the show.

Episode 7 This Season

Warning: Spoilers
NCIS reaching 1,000 episodes across all versions is an accomplishment, no matter how you spin it.

This show did a special episode in honor of Ducky, and that was well done, but this kind of missed the marks. Having some crossover agents from NCIS: LA and Hawaii was smart, but they only made a small cameo. No real twist with the case of who shot Vance, and no real drama period.

I guess the goal was to create just another NCIS episode and not go over board, but it just felt like a letdown. Decent enough and entertaining to watch, but we were hoping for something a bit more special than this for sure.

One glaring absence

Warning: Spoilers
The woman who seeks revenge against NCIS never mentions the agent who killed her father yet that is her motive. So, shouldn't that agent have been the main target of her revenge? Of course, bringing Gibbs back was not an option so his name couldn't even be mentioned by the woman. Therefore, the writers had to script it so it appeared the woman was seeking revenge against everyone and everything related to NCIS. CBS writers continue to sell out instead of focusing on realism and believability. I hope someone said something to the effect, "You can't write a flashback episode related to the very first one without including Gibbs." In an effort to identify the suspect and their motive they show a flashback to the showdown on-board Air Force One in season 1 episode 1. The only references to Gibbs are related to the flashbacks. The highlights for me were near the end, including four NCIS agents on the runway, holding up their badges and stopping Air Force One from taking off. The final scene, between Vance and his son, was great. They didn't even need all those flashbacks of other NCIS characters and shows.

Concluding NCIS?
gusto0o29 April 2024
The usual high stakes threat isolated to DC, reminiscent of a old cases, and the entire NCIS franchise. McGee finally having the chance to shine and he only put on a tie. Missed opportunities.

Are we being prepped for conclusion or are we being reminded of the "good" years and when we were excited about a thousand spin offs? Unlike Sydney. Cancel that thing already.

Including Gibbs, DiNozzo, Kate, Elly, Jack, but what about Ducky and Abby? I know we recently spent a whole episode on Ducky, but that was a farewell to an icon.

I know McG is working on an "untitled NCIS spin off" about Tony and Ziva, but that isn't what NCIS needs. It needs a little more this era characters, story lines and a little less explosives.

NO

This is probably the worst episode in the entire series which says a lot. They actually showed two of the best episodes in this episode, which is ironic. I'm pretty sure there's a huge plot hole in the storyline. Not very many shows. Go to a thousand episodes even if it's for multiple shows. So too phone this one home without putting any effort into making it good and not bringing back old characters. When you obviously had the chance to didn't make any sense. You literally could have had a big time reunion which would have made the episode significantly better, even if it was written very poorly.
