Exclusive: Joel Courtney and Crystal Reed have signed on to star in Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game for MPI Original Films.
The dramatic comedy produced by MPI is based on the true story of writer and pinball wizard Roger Sharpe, chronicling his journey to overturn New York City’s 35-year ban on pinball.
Austin and Meredith Bragg wrote and directed the film, which heads into production in October.
Stacey Parks, Lana Link, and Rob Pfaltzgraff will produce, with Nick Reid and Roger Sharpe on board as exec producers.
“Joel and Crystal bring so much remarkable talent and warmth to the project,” said The Bragg Brothers. “We’re thrilled to have them on board to bring Roger’s story to the screen.”

In an age of mass shootings when the debate over gun control rages on, some recent films, such as Jessica Chastain’s new film “Miss Sloane” tackle the subject head on. Another new film “Sins of Our Youth” also explores this topic, capturing the intersection of gun culture and foolish adolescence. The film follows four teenagers who accidentally murder a younger boy while shooting off assault weapons recreationally, and the perilous decisions they make in the aftermath of the murder. In a moment of desperation and fear, the four teenagers drunkenly construct a plan reminiscent of a video-game plot, but it’s only a catalyst for more confusion and pain. Skins‘ alum Sofia Black-D’Elia and Joel Courtney (Super 8) have joined CW drama pilot The Messengers from feature producer Basil Iwanyk (the Clash Of The Titans franchise) and CBS TV Studios. The Messengers starts with a mysterious object crashing down to Earth. A group of seemingly unconnected strangers die from the energy pulse, but then awaken to learn that they have been deemed responsible for preventing the impending apocalypse. Black-D’Elia, repped by ICM Partners and Brookside Artist Management, will play Erin, who despite the stresses in her life, is eager to make a new life for herself and her young daughter far away from her hot-headed ex-husband. Courtney, repped by CAA and Principato Young Entertainment, will play Peter, a loner who was raised in a group home and is bullied constantly. Black-D’Elia stars in the upcoming feature Welcome To Yesterday and HBO pilot Criminal Justice.
