We were pawns in the same war.. and we all lost!
and_mikkelsen3 April 2024
This was a nice episode, bringing back ond of my favorite CW characters in a way that did not feel like cheap fan service, since she gives the batch some valuable information as well as allowimg them to reflect on the situation, that may not be entirely as they think it is!

Even with some potential questions answered, there are still some left unanswered! The sence of mystery is still here and I am excited to see where it goes! However it seems things may not go the way they want it to!

The inclusion of the CW character also reminds us how much things have chamged since The Clone Wars and who the real enemy is!

The action was great and well animated!

Warning: Spoilers
From the beginning, it was always odd that the empire was trying so hard to hunt down omega. As season 2 ended, it became clear it had something to do with force sensitive cloning, and obviously the mention of m-count in recent episodes points to this. This episode served to certify this assumption, while also informing our heros about what is actually occurring with Omega, warning them of the danger, and giving them a choice which they may take later in the season.

So why Ventress? It makes complete sense. It's not just to bring back a new character, no it is because she is a bounty hunter, therefore be in contact with Fennec, while also being force sensitive, therefore actually knowing what is occurring both within the realm of past separatist leaders as well as within the force.

Why does Ventress say she is not sensitive? She knows it's in the best interest of the child, she cannot believe that cloning force sensitive beings would be possible and she has a very difficult grasping the true danger that this technology holds, not just for her but for the entire galaxy. It's clear omega is sensitive to some extent, we saw from the reaction of the 1st test that Omega was able to keep some concentration, but more importantly her bond with Batcher is very similar to the types of bonds Ezra has with other beings in Rebels.

Anyway, I've only seen two reviews and both were very negative, but this episode answered many questions, and set up the series for an epic finale. In Filoni I trust.

The Episode We've been Waiting for
saadurrehman7029 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
BEST EPISODE OF SEASON 3 HAS ARRIVED. Episode 9 the one I've been waiting for!!! Asajj Ventress vs Hunter & Crosshair was Sooo cool!!!

That was one of the best hand-to-hand fight choreographies in ALL of Star Wars.

She has had one of the best character turnarounds since the last seasons of The Clone Wars, a bit like Maul but much more honourable. As expected, it was well worth the wait, bringing some much needed Force connection to the Bad Batch along with a very maligned troubled, trying-to-do-good heroine as her! Her chemistry as a pseudo master with Omega was just too good and adorable. And I can't see them not bringing her back.

15:00 Ventress: "You're an odd little clone" Omega: "... thanks!" was so cute! ❤ Applauded for this episode when the credits hit! It was Soo good, just the best! 10:05pm.

Crosshair: you're naive
suvechhabose28 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
If you don't like this episode.

Well what do you know? I felt like the very first feeling of watching star wars the empire strikes back.

And are we ignoring certain points here?

For first, what was the budget? The animation looks smooth as butter. Water animation looks blissful, the underwater fight sequence felt better than acolyte teaser for Christ 's sake !

Not only this , i love the way how the episode first dealt with our bad batch not agreeing to trust Ventress at first branding her as a befitting WAR CRIMINAL (they all are) and when she proves herself with taking charge of real threat, they trusted her .

Felt like crosshair had a moment with Asajj , they look cute together & Hay , If star wars doesn't emotionaly right , it ain't star wars dawg .

Plus

Liked the way Ventress as in why changed to white jedi has been left to books . It doesn't harm what happened in the book so it felt sweet.

Loved ventress attitude towards our boys Music switching to bad batch tune when boys said we won't let you holding guns Felt beautiful.

A 10. A good lore friendly star wars . No need for Empire appearance in every episode. Some episodes needs to feel positive.

I don't care & neither do i want to know what is being happening or wheres the story heading at , I am enjoying the ride .

You Should Too.

Their ways
Trey_Trebuchet28 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Definitely an improvement over last week.

I see where some of the negative reviews are coming from, but I don't totally agree and I think people are once again being way too harsh. This wasn't bad at all, and it isn't quite filler either.

I think the most thought-provoking development here is Ventress's final conversation with the Bad Batch. If Omega is actually force sensitive, she would need proper training and would have to take that leap of faith, leaving behind her family. Could this actually happen this season? Would Omega actually leave them behind to become a force-wielder/Jedi? Will the Batch die? Go out with a bang and that being the final push for her to finally let go and embrace the force?

Anyway, I have no idea of she'll even become a Jedi. It's sort of cool to think about. It's giving Mandalorian and Grogu... But I don't know, I'm not bothered by that.

I enjoyed this episode either way though. I've not read any of Disney's Star Wars books (big Legends fan here) so I cannot speak for what is and isn't canon. A lot of it is jumbled at this point... All I know is did enjoy seeing Asajj Ventress again. It's interesting seeing a Ventress that is just more herself, more full-circle. She's still rough around the edges, but more collected than she's ever been too. I've always felt for her. She was arguably one of the best side characters in The Clone Wars.

Plus, she's rockin' that hair and that yellow lightsaber! And a force-wielding bounty hunter/scavenger is just such a neat idea.

She states something we've long feared; they cannot hide from the Empire forever, not even on Pabu. Seeing as next week we're getting a two-part episode, I'll bet stuff is about to get REALLY good again. We're in the final stretch.

Clone Wars fans will probably get more out of this episode than casual Bad Batch/Star Wars folk, but it's still entertaining and fascinating.

Real talk; who would actually train Omega? I gotta know!

Ventress is not enough
moritzherz28 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
After the kind of cliffhanger last week we now immediately got the reveal: Asajj Ventress makes her return!

Ventress is one of the countless great characters of the clone wars and it is righteous to bring her back. She still is a bounty hunter and does not work for the empire. She may even fit in the Batch...

However this episode fails to get the story moving. It is revealed that Omega very likely is force sensitive, but Ventress leaves the squad and therefore Omega cannot be trained. We also didn't get any information on how the squad will move on.

Don't get me wrong, I love to see Ventress again and I think we will see her again this season but it is just not enough for a ninth episode out of fifteen.

Let's hope they will surprise us next week with a banger!

A certain contingent of people will love this episode but...
dmpearson-6699127 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A major character from the clone wars era returned this episode: the separatist assassin, Asajj Ventress. Sporting a new look and a new philosophy Ventress, a much like antagonist from The Clone Wars, shows up to confront Omega and The Bad Batch.

She's not actually showing up for no reason, she's the Intel that Fennec promised in the previous episode.

On first watch, this is kind of cool but thinking about it more it just doesn't really make sense or add anything to the story.

Ventress shows up, "tests" Omega's aptitude with the force and doesn't really say much about the intel she's supposed to give on the Empires search for M-Count.

So at the end of the episode, we don't know if Omega is truly force sensitive or not, The Bad Batch don't know why the Empire want her for her M-Count (although a viewer might do depending on what shows/movies they've seen and what Lore they know) and we don't know if Ventress has turned up for a one off appearance or she will show up again.

Basically, this episode does nothing to progress the story along at all, it's just a cool little filler episode to see Ventress again.

--- rewatched, revised rating to a 6/10.

Have a point to what you're doing
kingdomheartslover27 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
So I love Star Wars and I respect Dave Filoni. I respect everyone who works on Bad Batch and writes the story. But... what are we doing here?

Why do we insist on bringing characters back all the time even when they have virtually no purpose to serve? Why do we give characters meaningful and impactful deaths just to revert and have them come back and do nothing? Hey Star Wars, have you heard of this crazy important story telling thing called stakes and consequence? Have you heard of making new exciting characters instead of wheeling out old washed up ones that had a perfect resolution?

If you wanted to make something with Ventress in it can we please get an animated adaptation of The Dark Disciple in its own little mini series?

If this show brings Tech back I am lowering my overall score 2 points for the series.

So far I think Disney Star Wars has had 2 impactful big deaths in any project that isn't books and that is Kanan and Cere Junda.

Decent... but
seanmccarthy-3380527 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
They should rename pabu to filler island because nothing worth while has actually ever happened there.

Some people will like this episode because of its fan service but what did we gain from it? Nothing is really happening at the minute and this episode is fits that theme.

Also, it blows my mind that the batch fight and lose to ventress and then decide "you know what? Omega we think you should train with the former evil separatist assassin". Oh, but it's fine because they watch in the distance with binoculars.

I wish this show could punish characters for making terrible decisions. I don't care if an episode breaks canon in some book I never read. All that I want is good writing with a strong storyline.

Now that I'm done ranting this episode wasn't all that bad, It was just unnecessary especially for the midway episode of the final season.

Why Ventress?
TacoVe1230 April 2024
Ventress had a beautiful conclusion in the disciple of the side and I don't understand why, even though there are many jedi survivors of order 66, they used Ventress.

The tip itself is very interesting but bringing a dead and buried character back to life isn't.

Dave Filoni has many merits, but in this case I didn't like the rewriting to the canon.

It would have been more interesting to use a character with Maul, Ahsoka or Quinlan Vos.

Instead of this episode it would have been nice to do a 2 episode story arc about Rex and Wolfee's redemption and maybe even give Cody a conclusion.

Rate by Taco.

Disney decanonises itself
robalexhawk27 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
If the Dark Disciple, one of the most popular and best written Disney novels, didn't exist then this would be a really decent episode opening the door to giving an excellent CW character some closure.

However, the novel does exist, based on an unreleased arc of CW before it was all cancelled by Disney, and in it she dies at the hands of Dooku. Overall a very tragic, but fitting end to the character.

SW executives said before this season of Bad Batch was released that the appearance of Ventress in the trailer would not contradict established Canon. Clearly they lied.

This just leaves the door open for Disney to rewrite any plot point or character death that Star Wars has ever had. For all we know Vader or Obi Wan could rock up in some post-Sequel spinoff What's worse is that Ventress hasn't so far been needed in Bad Batch at all. We've not actually learnt any more about her, or how she miraculously came back from the dead.

I've always had massive respect and love for Filoni and what he gave us with CW, Rebels, Tales of the Jedi, but sadly he has failed Star Wars massively in the decision to bring back Ventress.

Laziest, least logical episode yet
AbsimiliJon28 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
From the creative perspective, this just follows some of the laziest cliches in fiction writing:

  • A character that had an impactful death at the end of a concluded character arch reappears.

  • The supposed elite fighting squad decides to take on a sith assassin (they are unaware of the aforementioned arch) by politely taking turns to attempt to punch her one at a time.

  • Main characters almost immediately trusts a mass murderer because a child says people can change.

  • There are hints that an established character potentially has special abilities, in a twist that has been telegraphed since season one, episode one.

Sometimes laziness in writing can be forgivable, but when main characters behave like complete idiots because believable human reactions would've steered the plot in the wrong way, I'm not going to be in a forgiving mood.

In the future, ban all resurrections. If you can't think if any new characters that might be good, hire someone who can. Furthermore, have some people go over your script, and if anyone asks why certain characters would be stupid enough to do certain things, consider changing the script.

And while I'm dreaming, I'd like an X-Wing, please.

Retcon and filler
jaxxds27 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Oh boy, this one is just rough. Ventress is here. She's just here. Some people may not understand why that is bad but others know that she died in the novel "Dark Disciple", which took place during the clone wars, aka way before the setting of the bad batch. And do we get any sort of explanation as to how she's alive? Expect one cheap and lazy line about how she has lives left to live, nope. I do not care that she is a nightsister and they have the ability to resurrect the dead. It's ok to let characters die and stay dead guys, we don't have to retcon the death of any and every single fan favorite character, especially if you don't have a story to tell with them. Filoni could have at least shown her being revived by nightsister magic but that would also not make any sense since Vos and Kenobi buried her in the novel. I think Filoni just wants to try to copy the popularity of Darth Maul being brought back but the difference is Maul wasn't confirmed to be killed in TPM, just assumed to be. In Dark Disciple, Ventress definitely died.

Ventress shows up on Pabu to test Omega for M count by having her go through some tests to see if she's force sensitive. During these tests the bad batch realize who she is, think she's still their enemy, and try to fight her but get their butts kicked. Ventress tries to explain to them that she's not their enemy anymore but they won't listen. Omega comes back while they're fighting and of course she thinks Ventress has changed and she somehow makes the bad batch promise to let her do the tests with Ventress. Gotta love how Hunter, Wrecker, and Crosshair are basically her pets at this point, having to obey her every wish no matter how idiotic. And during the last test, Ventress accidentally summons a giant squid turtle monster with the force while she and Omega are out on the water, because of course the writing team wants to manufacture tension so we get ANOTHER monster of the week. At the end of the episode, Ventress tells Omega she's not high in M count but after Omega goes off with Wrecker, Crosshair says that she's lying. Apparently Omega DOES have the potential (for the force I guess?) and that would mean that she would have to be taken away from the bad batch to be trained but Ventress posses this as a hypothetical so who even knows.

All and all, yet another episode where nothing happens. There is no story for the bad batch apart from "OmG wE gOt To FiGuRe OuT wHy ThE eMpIrE wAnTs OmEga", which has absolutely no urgency since why does it even matter? I thought Hemlock wanted her found as soon as possible but it doesn't even feel like they're hunting the bad batch down for her. Ventress even tells them that they're not as safe on Pabu as they think so where tf is Hemlock and his troopers? Are they just sitting around waiting for some intel to come in about where Omega could be? And on the topic of that, if Omega does have force potential, why? Simply why? She's an unaltered clone from the Jango Fett genotype so does that imply that Jango, and following that logic, Boba too, are force sensitive? Or is Omega just special because of course she is? But hey, at least Ventress quips that "your blood doesn't make you a jedi. You'd have to be trained for that" so get bent Rey and sequel fans.

This show is a mess and needs to be put to sleep, permanently.
