Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Chapters: Special 2 (2023)
Am I missing something?
I've been a very short time fan of this show. I binged it in 3 months and had known nothing about it prior to when I started watching.
Don't get me wrong this show is incredible but this ending bugs me. The episode is split into 3 parts. Parts 1 and 2 are great (which is why I gave 7/10) but the third part which has made me feel mildly dissatisfied with the conclusion.
I don't know how they can expect me to believe that Armin of all people is deep down an evil person. I loved the reveal that Eren was bad because it made sense for him, but Armin? Seriously?
I really don't get the message they were trying to go for. Eren did this not for his friends, not for himself and wasn't manipulated by other factors. No, no he did this because he is "an idiot"And Armin goes along with it and says he was in on it? Wtf?
We learn and we accept that war is in human nature so it really begs the question as to what the point of the rumbling was. It doesn't break the cycle of war or 'save Eldia' or anything.
Also Ymir does all that for 2000 years because she loves her master who abused her. Come on now.
I would never claim to be able to write a better ending but I'd expect better from this show which has wowed me consistently up till now.
Do I just not get it? Was there something I missed? Does anyone else feel this way because all I can see are 10/10 reviews.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch: The Harbinger (2024)
Decent... but
They should rename pabu to filler island because nothing worth while has actually ever happened there.
Some people will like this episode because of its fan service but what did we gain from it? Nothing is really happening at the minute and this episode is fits that theme.
Also, it blows my mind that the batch fight and lose to ventress and then decide "you know what? Omega we think you should train with the former evil separatist assassin". Oh, but it's fine because they watch in the distance with binoculars.
I wish this show could punish characters for making terrible decisions. I don't care if an episode breaks canon in some book I never read. All that I want is good writing with a strong storyline.
Now that I'm done ranting this episode wasn't all that bad, It was just unnecessary especially for the midway episode of the final season.
Game of Thrones (2011)
Game Of Thrones
I have never read the books. I began watching the show about 6 months ago on the premises that the final season was a major letdown but nonetheless, I decided to give it a go. And god am I glad I did.
I truly believe that this show is the greatest ever made. Seasons 1-3 were incredible, by season 4 I was sure that this show was better than any I had ever watched before. The show declined in quality for the first time in season 5 but reached new heights In season 6. Season 7 was very good overall but had it's flaws.
However, I have no doubt that season 8 was the worst. That being said, I wasn't all that disappointed, I don't believe it was just as bad as everyone said it was. People acted as if season 8 was hell on Earth. The truth is I only believe it suffers because it was rushed. Most of the "terrible writing" only occurred due to the writers having to make decisions to hurry it up.
For example, Arya killing the night king fairly cheaply. She shouldn't have been able to do so but you already know that by now. I believe if this was more fleshed out and didn't just happen in one giant CGI battle there would be much less complaints. Another example is Dany's somewhat sudden turn to madness if this happened across the course of 2 full seasons rather than a couple of episodes. The ending would have been much better.
Alas endings are hard. It's no coincidence that there are so many great shows "ruined" by the ending. I believe we should push this false narrative aside. A show isn't terrible just because it didn't end the way you wanted. The truth is people act as if they could write a better ending. I am telling you, you couldn't.
I was devastated when I saw that Bran. Of all people. Brandon Stark, becomes King of Westoros. Unexpected? Yes. Stupid? Yes. But does it really mean that all the incredible, breathtaking moments that the show produced meant nothing? Absolutely 100% not.
If you were told after the first time you watched the red wedding, that the show ended poorly do you think you still would've watched it? Of course you would've. This show is one of a kind, a diamond in the rough. I will not accept people who believe that the poor finale means that the earlier seasons mean nothing.
How could you watch a show so complex, so captivating, so different and yet believe that it all means nothing. I love this show and nothing will take back the incredible emotions I felt while watching it. 10/10.
Better Call Saul (2015)
Better Not Fall Asleep
The single most overrated show ever made. The fans are insufferable. They will persuade you to watch it until one day you decide "why not?". I'm here to tell you, don't bother.
This show makes paint drying seem fast by comparison. Seasons go by and to be honest, you don't even remember anything that happened because nothing really did.
The show goes far too long without a consistent plot. For half of the show we just follow Jimmy around half the time as he tries to make a living, he has no specific goals apart from being a lawyer which he has already become.
As for the other half of the show, we follow the familiar faces of Michael Ehrmantraut dealing with 'Family problems' and later Gustavo Fring who is running his drug empire. The problem is, these characters aren't even involved with Jimmy for most of the show. We learn so much about Nacho Varga and his backstory but he only has a few encounters with the main character and he barely plays a role in Jimmy's story.
The story as a whole feels disconnected. Take 'Breaking Bad' for an example, everything lead back to Walter. Nothing we saw in the show didn't somehow impact Walter and it felt more like a journey rather than a series of unconnected events. On the other hand, 'Better Caul Saul' seems constantly off topic.
In conclusion, I didn't hate the show. It can be slow at times but it truly does have some amazing episodes but the bad seems to over power the good. Wouldn't recommend.
