John Krasinski’s “If” presents a menagerie of celebrity-voiced imaginary friends who are in search of existential purpose after their kids grow up and forget them. Enter Ryan Reynolds, who runs a matchmaking service for the “IFs,” who live in a secluded retirement home at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park in Coney Island.
Framestore handled the audacious fusion of live-action and CG animation and VFX (800 shots) spread across their London, Montreal, and Mumbai studios. Led by animation director Arslan Elver and VFX supervisor Chris Lawrence, the team worked closely with director-actor Krasinski to get believable performances out of the IFs on set or in post. Krasinski saw them as visceral, hyper-real puppets. The techniques included stand-ins to help the voice actors deliver full performances, placing the animated characters in the shot with VR, or the use of home-shot reference footage from the animators.

‘Waller’ was confirmed for development in 2022 as a spinoff of ‘Peacemaker’, featuring Viola Davis reprising her role as the titular character. Recent confirmations indicate that the show will deviate from the comedy-oriented style of ‘Peacemaker’, reflecting Waller’s serious demeanor.
Initially slated for a 2024 release, James Gunn’s current focus on other Dcu projects suggests a potential delay, with the best-case scenario being a 2025 release. However, some sources still mention a 2024 release date.
In light of the recent announcements about ‘Peacemaker’ season 2, fans queried Gunn on social media about the timeline of the upcoming show. Gunn, always helpful, clarified that it would take place after the events of the second season of ‘Peacemaker’.
Recently, Gunn sparked controversy by confirming that certain Dceu events will be considered canon within the Dcu.
Frank Grillo was cast as Rick Flag Sr. in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, having already been confirmed to voice the character for the animated show.

The Dcu is bustling with various projects underway, from the animated ‘Creature Commandos’ to the highly anticipated ‘Superman’ slated for a 2025 release, and the recently updated release date for ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.’
Among these, the upcoming ‘Booster Gold’ TV show, centered around the titular hero, often flies under the radar.
A recent production listing indicated that ‘Booster Gold’ was set to begin filming on July 8th. James Gunn and Peter Safran were listed as producers, and John Papsidera as casting director. However, this raised eyebrows considering this year was earmarked for ‘Superman,’ ‘Waller,’ and ‘Peacemaker’ season 2. James Gunn himself addressed the speculation on his Threads account, confirming that ‘Booster Gold’ is indeed in development but production is not imminent.
It’s logical to assume that if production were truly imminent, we’d already be inundated with leaks and rumors about casting, costumes, and the overall plot of the show.

Dcu has plenty of projects in the works, starting with the animated ‘Creature Commandos’ to ‘Superman’ bound to be released in 2025, and ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ which recently got a release date update.
One project that is rarely talked about when it comes to the Dcu is the upcoming ‘Booster Gold’ TV Show, focusing on the hero of the same name.
Recently, a production listing stated that ‘Booster Gold’ is entering production on July 8th. James Gunn was listed as producer along with Peter Safran, with John Papsidera being credited as casting director. While this did seem odd since we know that this year was reserved for ‘Superman,’ ‘Waller’ and ‘Peacemaker’ season 2 production, our suspicions were confirmed by Gunn who debunked the whole thing via his Threads account.
Gunn cleared up that ‘Booster Gold’ is still being worked on but production is not imminent.

After taking us into A Quiet Place in two box office hits (with a prequel arriving very soon), actor/director/writer John Krasinski now guides us into a fairy noisy place, namely the inner life and fantasies of children. And going from sci-fi thrills to whimsey is quite the “lane change”, one that could end in disaster if not properly planned. Luckily he’s crafted a story and has enlisted a talented cast in front of the camera and the microphone. Yes, this is perhaps the most ambitious cartoon/live-action feature since the pairing of private eye Eddie Valiant and Roger Rabbit. And since it uses computer-generated “beasties” (rather than the 2-D classic style), Krasinski is touting it as a “live-action Pixar flick” (quite a goal). And he’s really putting those tech wizards to work in showing us the often unseen children’s side-kick, the invisible friend, here shortened to If.

James Gunn has a lot planned for the DC Universe, and a significant weight of it seems to lie in his upcoming animated series, Creature Commandos. There has been a lot of conversation around this seemingly minuscule series, which also happens to be setting up some of the most significant storylines in DC’s near future.
James Gunn’s Creature Commandos
One of the most unfortunate deaths in recent years has to have been that of Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag. It would seem that this painful wound is being ripped open again, as Flag’s father, Rick Flag Sr., is making his way into the franchise.
While many would be excited solely based on this news, it would seem that the character is entering the universe with one goal; revenge. Could Amanda Waller help Flag Sr. kill his son’s killer?

Since Gunn & Safran assumed control of the Dceu and rebranded it as the Dcu, a significant faction of fans who appreciated Snyder’s vision has been discontent. Gunn faces ongoing criticism and is frequently compelled to justify a movie that has yet to be completed or released.
The latest controversy revolves around allegations of potential excessive use of CGI in the forthcoming ‘Superman’ film.
The production schedule for upcoming Dcu projects is well-known by now, highlighting Gunn’s active involvement in all forthcoming shows and films. ‘Superman’ was the second project to begin production this year, closely followed by ‘Creature Commandos,’ which is nearing completion. Additionally, ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 and ‘Waller’ are slated to be shot concurrently as TV series.

Ever since Gunn & Safran took over Dceu and rebooted it into Dcu, a large portion of the fandom that liked Snyder’s vision was mad. Gunn is constantly under attack and forced to defend the movie that isn’t even remotely close to being finished or released.
The most recent controversy and accusation is targeted toward the potential overuse of CGI in the upcoming ‘Superman’ movie.
The production schedule of the upcoming Dcu projects is fairly known at this point, and it’s clear that Gunn is working hard to take an active part in the development of all shows and movies to come. ‘Superman’ was the second project to start production this year, with ‘Creature Commandos’ almost being done. In early 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran introduced their rebooted universe named Dcu, unveiling a comprehensive lineup of projects. The most recent release in the Dceu was ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ last year, which achieved some success, especially compared to many MCU films from that year that struggled with critics and box office performance.
In January, Gunn and Safran revealed the initial projects of the Dcu lineup and announced the team of writers responsible for crafting the overarching story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson, Christal Henry, and Tom King. They outlined a plan spanning eight to ten years, divided into “chapters,” with potential for further expansion. The first chapter, ‘Gods and Monsters,’ featured films like ‘Superman’ (originally titled ‘Superman: Legacy’), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing,’ alongside television series such as ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Waller,’ ‘Lanterns,’ ‘Paradise Lost,’ and ‘Booster Gold....

With the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ the Dceu era came to a close, making way for Gunn’s and Safran’s Dcu. It’s been known for years that the Dcu would mirror the MCU, with multiple phases or “chapters.”
The first chapter, ‘Gods & Monsters,’ was announced, with ‘Creature Commandos’ being its inaugural project. However, ‘Superman: Legacy’ is set to unofficially kickstart the new Dcu. Notably, ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 will transition from Dceu to the new Dcu, with Gunn ensuring it fits seamlessly into the canon.
Gunn recently confirmed that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 and ‘Waller’ will be filmed simultaneously. According to Pwinsider, John Cena will be occupied from June to November 2024 with shooting the second season. Cena will be filming in the Atlanta area during this time, with production expected to wrap up around Thanksgiving.

‘Waller’ was confirmed for development in 2022 as a spinoff of ‘Peacemaker’, with Viola Davis returning as the lead character. Recent updates indicate that the show will have a serious tone, in contrast to the comedic approach of ‘Peacemaker’, reflecting Waller’s character.
Originally slated for release in 2024, delays are expected due to director James Gunn’s focus on other Dcu projects. While some sources still mention a 2024 release, 2025 seems more likely.
New additions to the official IMDb page reveal stunt doubles, offering hints about the characters we can expect in the show, though details about the plot remain scarce.
Greg Fitzpatrick will double for Frank Grillo, Nhut Le will portray Vigilante as a stunt actor, Cali Nelle will stand in for Djimon Hounsou, Christopher Tardieu will serve as Sebastian Faust’s double, and Nico Woulard will double for Corey Hawkins.
The name “Vigilante” refers to two characters in the DC Universe.

Gunn and Safran took charge of what used to be called Dceu, renaming it as Dcu. Over a year ago, they unveiled their plans for ‘Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters’. By January 2023, the DC cinematic universe was described as undergoing a significant but not total overhaul, planning a multi-year storyline.

James Gunn has been filming for his upcoming Dcu film Superman in Svalbard, Norway. The filmmaker and DC Studios co-chief recently confirmed that a second season of the hit show Peacemaker will be filming soon and that he would be directing some episodes of the series as he was also working on Superman. Gunn also said that the spinoff series Waller was in development.
Gunn revealed that season one of Peacemaker was not canon to the Dcu as the shared universe only begins when the animated show Creature Commandos begins to air. The filmmaker mentioned that season two, however, would be canon to the Dcu and would take place after Superman, leading fans to be more confused about the timeline of the universe.

Do you really, do you really wanna taste it? Yes, we do! But where will that taste — that is, season two of Peacemaker — land in the DC Universe timeline? That was one of the biggest questions when it was announced that the Dcu would be replacing the Dceu. But James Gunn has stepped in to clear up any confusion…even if it still might be a little unclear just how it will all eventually come together.
James Gunn took to Threads — as he has grown quite fond of — to address where season two of Peacemaker sits in the evolving DC Universe, writing that it “will take place after the events in Superman.” It’s absolutely also worth noting that Gunn said that season one — which was released in 2022 and so part of the Dceu — is not canon in the Dcu. Got it? Good, moving on!

When ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ came out, the Dceu was wrapped up and Gunn and Safran’s Dcu took its place. For a long time, we’ve known that the Dcu will follow the MCU’s lead, organizing its movies into phases or “chapters.” The first chapter in the Dcu is called ‘Gods & Monsters.’ The first release in ‘Gods & Monsters’ will be ‘Creature Commandos,’ but Gunn has said ‘Superman: Legacy’ will actually kick off the new Dcu unofficially.

James Gunn’s Dcu has finally started production with Superman, the first film in the new and improved shared universe of DC superheroes. Among the slew of things that were announced for the first chapter of the universe was a show called Waller, focusing on Amanda Waller and her work behind the scenes of creating Task Force X, otherwise known as the Suicide Squad.
Viola Davis as Amanda Waller in The Suicide Squad
Waller could set up the road to bringing the Suicide Squad into the Dcu. It is already known that the Peacemaker would be carrying over from the Dceu into the Dcu, which could open the door for other characters to make a renewed appearance in the new DC universe. However, this could result in an iteration of the Suicide Squad without the likes of Margot Robbie, as another actress might take up the role of Harley Quinn.

Another significant project, ‘Peacemaker,’ was confirmed to be part of the Dcu, with Season 2 already in development. It’s been a while since Gunn and Safran took over what used to be called Dceu and changed it to Dcu. More than a year ago, they shared their plans for ‘Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters.’ In January 2023, the DC movie universe was described as getting a big change, but not a complete reboot, with plans for a story that will last for many years.
James Gunn and Peter Safran talked about the first projects of this new plan on January 31. They said who the writers were working on the big story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson (who wrote ‘The Flash’), Christal Henry, and comic book writer Tom King. The idea was to split the stories into parts, with the first one being ‘Gods and Monsters.’ This part had five movies: ‘Superman’ (2025), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing.’

With numerous projects scheduled for release in phase 1, titled “Gods & Monsters,” fans have eagerly anticipated the placement of ‘Peacemaker’ in this evolving landscape.

‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 was confirmed to be in development in February 2022. Since then, a lot has changed, the most drastic change definitely being Dceu transitioning into Dcu under the leadership of Gunn and Safran. While a lot of projects are scheduled to be released as a part of phase 1, aptly titled “Gods & Monsters,” fans have long wondered where Peacemaker’ fits into it all.
We know that the show was in pre-production for a long time, and the cast remained pretty much consistent. John Cena stars as Peacemaker, a government agent committed to achieving peace at any cost. With the new year comes a new cinematic universe for the projects based on DC comics, and now that Gunn is officially in charge, he really does not hold back on debunking various rumors related to ‘Superman: Legacy’ and other possible projects that might be developed as a part of newly overhauled Dcu.
Recently, some rumors resurfaced regarding planned and (unplanned)Dcu properties, mostly related to the alleged ‘Waller’ TV Show. ‘Waller’ was supposed to be a TV series consisting of 13 episodes. The majority of scripts were complete, and casting has begun. Phil Abraham was supposed to direct the first two episodes. Freddie Stroma would return as Vigilante, and Sean Gunn would portray Maxwell Lord. John Douglas Thompson and Ivanna Sakhno joining in supporting roles. The season was supposed to be divided into two parts, with the first half set to premiere in the spring of 2025, followed by the second half in the fall.

The Dceu is approaching its final phase with the arrival of ‘Aquaman and the Last Kingdom.’ Under Gunn and Safran’s guidance, the Dcu is set to take over. Despite many projects originally part of the Dceu being canceled, Gunn’s ‘Peacemaker’ has managed to endure.
Gunn consistently shares updates on the development of ‘Peacemaker,’ and recently, he affirmed that the show’s second season will be integrated into the Dcu, similar to ‘Waller,’ a series centered around Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller set for a 2024 release.
Additionally, Gunn disclosed that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 is his next undertaking after wrapping up work on ‘Superman: Legacy.’ Contrary to substantial rumors, he also clarified on Threads that ‘Bat-Mite’ will not be featured in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2. This announcement comes as a straightforward response, disappointing fans who were hoping for the character’s appearance, especially given some indications from the ‘Peacemaker’ show hinting at Bat-Mite’s connection to the Dceu canon.

The Dceu became the Dcu after Safran and Gunn took over as co-CEOs/presidents. Other than the projects that were already in development long before Gunn took over – like ‘The Flash’ or ‘Aquaman 2’ – most Dceu projects got scrapped, and the Dcu is looking to start over.
That being said, not every project from the Dceu is getting the boot. James Gunn decided to keep things like his ‘Peacemaker’ series intact. In fact, ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 is already in pre-production, and it probably won’t be long before we get a release date or at least a release window.
Now, seeing that we’ll already dive deep into the Dcu by the time the second season of John Cena’s ‘Peacemaker’ comes out, fans were wondering if the show will even be a part of the Dcu in the future.

Taking to his personal Threads account, the ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ director confirmed that Xolo will be coming back as Blue Beetle, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and John Cena as the Peacemaker.
This seven-episode series will be the first outing of the ‘first chapter’ from Gunn and Peter Safran titled ‘Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters’.
This arc will later also introduce characters such as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and more, though much later.

DC Extended Universe, a franchise that started as a great idea with so much potential, will go down in history as one of the most missed opportunities in the superhero genre. Behind-the-scenes feuds with stars and directors, the studio’s pressures to hastily compete with the MCU, the lack of vision and central storyline, and constant changes in the studio leadership brought this once great idea to the brink of collapse. Despite a few good and successful movies it spawned, Dceu as a cinematic universe was never meant to succeed, all things considered.
Dceu has one more movie to spawn before it’s closed for good. ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ although it’s a sequel to the highest-grossing DC movie of all time, has found itself in a very thankless situation since all the most recent Dceu movies have suffered commercial failures. Since Dceu has nowhere to go after this next flick,...

With only Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom ahead of us, we’re in the final days of the Dceu. James Gunn and Peter Safran have taken charge of DC Studios and will be launching a new DC Universe, but that’s not to say there won’t be some crossover with the old Dceu.
James Gunn took to Threads to respond to fan questions asking whether actors from the Dceu would be reprising their roles in the new Dcu. “Xolo Maridueña will continue playing Blue Beetle in the Dcu, as Viola Davis will Amanda Waller, and John Cena will Peacemaker,” Gunn replied. This isn’t exactly breaking news, as the DC Studios co-head has previously said that Blue Beetle is the first Dcu character. A second season of Peacemaker is also in the works, and it was announced that Viola Davis would be reprising the role of Amanda Waller in...

For anyone out there who might be confused about the future of DC Universe projects, James Gunn completely understands the challenge of keeping apprised on the latest developments.
Gunn, who stepped in last year as co-head of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, took to Threads on Wednesday to address fan questions about development for the new DC slate now that the writers strike has ended. This included responding to an inquiry from months ago regarding whether actors from previous DC projects will reprise their roles, in addition to whether the new universe will commence with Superman: Legacy, which has Gunn directing David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. But up first is the animated series Creature Commandos.
“Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year — a sort of aperitif to the Dcu — & then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that,” Gunn replied.

Whether you like it or not, it’s a fact that the Dceu reboot, officially called Dcu, is imminent. Dceu has suffered several box-office failures in a row, and it’s pretty likely that the same fate awaits the last two Dceu movies; ‘Blue Beetle’ and ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.’ With some many problems, Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios can only hope for a good start of Dcu to make all those Dceu problems worth something.
James Gunn has already announced the first five Dcu movies and five TV shows that will be set in Dcu’s Chapter 1, titled Gods and Monsters. While the first DC project will be the upcoming animated series ‘Create Commandos,’ which will premiere on Max next year, the official opening of Dcu will be ‘Superman: Legacy,’ written and directed by Gunn.
