TollywoodThe role is now being played by Keerthy Suresh.Digital Native samantha_DN 750x500.jpgIt is well known that Keerthy Suresh is playing the legendary actor Savitri in her biopic Mahanati. The multilingual film to be released in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam is currently being shot in various locations. While Keerthy is now playing Savitri, did you know that the first choice for the role was Samantha? Yes, Samantha who is now playing a journalist in the film, was first considered for the title role. But she was replaced with Keerthy Suresh after the film’s director Nag Ashwin felt that a new face would be more apt for the role. Moreover, the film will be told from the journalist’s perspectiv, therefore, Samantha would have a meaty role to play in it. According to sources close to the filmmakers, Samantha was extremely sportive about the roles being swapped and agreed to be a part of the biopic. Directed by Nag Ashwin and produced under the banner Vyjayanthi Movies, the film is gearing up for release on March 29th next year. It has an impressive start cast with Keerthy Suresh as Savitri, Dulquer Salmaan as Gemini Ganesan, Samantha Akkineni as Jamuna, Mohan Babu as Sv Ranga Rao, Vijay Devarakonda, Shalini Pandey and Prakash Raj as Aluri Chakrapani. Mickey J Meyer is composing music for this film with cinematographer Dani Sanchez-Lopez cranking the camera. The film’s Telugu version is titled Mahanati, while its Tamil version is Nadgayar Thilagam. Born on 6 December 1936, Savitri was one of the finest actors in tinsel town. She has acted in scores of Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi movies. She was married to actor Gemini Ganesan and had two children. Savitri, the recipient of several awards and honors including the Rashtrapati Award, Nandi Award, and Kalaimamani, reportedly died of substance abuse at the age of 47. The influence of South Indian cinema on Hindi over the years had gradually increased to a whole new level today. In the 90s you simply got accustomed to faces like Nagarjuna and Rajnikanth whose films without fail got dubbed in Hindi. However, come the millennium and the selling of your remake rights and the subsequent acquiring of it by a maker in Hindi cinema has become one of the most prominent business transactions in Indian cinema. We are no longer satisfied with dubbed versions of their films nor are many of the Si makers looking to release such versions of their films.
The idea of remakes allows for the story to be adapted into a new setting to be marketed to a new audience after being customised for their needs. Why risk an original script that may not work when you’ve got a blockbuster script at your disposal that...

The most striking similarities between director Raja and actor Vijay is that they love remaking films and have witnessed continuous successes with it. The duo joining hands together for the Velayudham resulted in rumors that the film is a remake of yesteryear Telugu blockbuster Azad (Nagarjuna, Late actress Soundarya and Shilpa Shetty in lead roles).
Director Raja is busy shooting for the film as the closer sources reveal that he has completed filming important sequences. Getting to speak on Velayudham, the filmmaker assures that it is an original script and not a remake.
But the first look posters of Velayudham had more connections with Azad as the theme was very much blatant. Say for instance, Genelia D’ Souza is spotted reporting with a new channel mike (the original version has Soundarya as journalist). The other posters had Vijay dressed up like a superhero (the protagonist in Azad dresses up like...
