What's the 4th of July without fireworks and a little side of pop stars singing their greatest hits peppered with Americana?
Little Richard, who performed in D.C. as part of the annual "A Capitol Fourth" celebration, brought down the house (the house being the National Mall) with his signature high-energy piano playing. Also performing in D.C: Steve Martin on banjo (fans of "The Jerk" won't be surprised), "American Idol" alumna Jordin Sparks, "Glee's" Matthew Morrison and singer/songwriter Josh Groban.
In New York, Beyonce covered Lee Greenwood's "Proud to be an American" before launching into her new single, "Best I Ever Had."
Lionel Richie was scheduled to headline the Boston Pops, but Martina McBride stepped in at the last minute to sub for the Richie -- who was reportedly too sick to perform.

Beside "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular" which featured Beyonce Knowles and Brad Paisley, there was also another concert held to celebrate the Independence Day of the United States. Taking place at the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol, the gig saw performances by Jordin Sparks.
Introduced by host Jimmy Smits, the 2007 winner of "American Idol" opened the concert with a stunning rendition of "Star-Spangled Banner". The 21-year-old singer, wearing a little black dress, performed the National Anthem with the music provided by the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of pops conductor Jack Everly.
Later in the evening, Jordin returned to the stage at the PBS' special concert dubbed "A Capitol Fourth" to perform "Beauty and the Beast". While she's performing the theme song of the Disney classic animated movie, "Dancing with the Stars" pros Mark Ballas and Chelsie Hightower were doing the rumba.
The other musical guest that night was Matthew Morrison.

HollywoodNews.com: Jordin Sparks segues from the New Kids On the Block/Backstreet Boys tour to a special engagement in Washington, D.C. this coming week, performing on PBS’s live “A Capitol Fourth” Independence Day celebration concert. (Check local listings.) Talk about a sudden change.
“It’s going to be so different — from the wardrobe to the audience to the stage. The thing that’s going to be the same is that I’m going to try to perform the best that I can,” says Jordin, who recently shed 30 pounds and is looking gorgeous. She’s singing “Beauty and the Beast” — accompanying a dance by Mark Ballas and Chelsie Hightower in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Disney animated classic. She is also set to sing the national anthem — one of the two most nerve-wracking performances she can imagine, she says, the other being a return to “American Idol.
