Screenwriter Jamie Flanagan — sibling to Mike Flanagan — has sold their first two novels to Saga Press, Simon & Schuster’s genre imprint, Deadline reports.
Their first book, tentatively titled Deserters, follows two priests in post-World War II Italy as they traverse the countryside in search of lost souls, only to find their mission descend into horror.
The second as-yet-untitled book is about a young woman uncontrollably flitting through time. It’s based on Flanagan’s short story Moira, published in last year’s horror anthology Shadows in the Stacks.
The deal was handled by Joe Monti, Vice President and Editorial Director at Saga Press via Lane Heymont at the Tobias Literary Agency.
“I fell in love with Flanagan’s prose, and perhaps no surprise, the immediate connection I felt with their characters”, said Monti. “I’m excited to share what they’re crafting with readers and having them join the stable...

The upcoming film The Life of Chuck (which Neon will be giving a theatrical release on June 6th) is the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing series adaptations of The Dark Tower and Carrie for Amazon Studios) – but it is not a horror movie. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray got to see the movie a while back (you can read his 7/10 review Here) and described it as a “bittersweet tearjerker.” A teaser trailer dropped online a month ago, now a full trailer has arrived and you can watch it in the embed above!

It's been a few decades since a Stephen King adaptation was designed with our tears in mind, but Mike Flanagan seems determined to break that streak with "The Life of Chuck." The new trailer for Flanagan's upcoming film just dropped from Neon, and while it doesn't reveal too much about the movie's plot, it does promise big emotions and a sweeping, lifetime-spanning story.
"The Life of Chuck" isn't autobiographical, but the sense one comes away with after watching the latest trailer is that it's King and Flanagan's answer to Steven Spielberg's "The Fabelmans." We see flashes of a life filled with sweet mother figures and grandpa-types; dancing in the street; colorful, starry nights; and general scenes of out-of-context wonder. There's also a sense of unspoken melancholy -- we get the feeling that whatever is being withheld from audiences, it involves a bittersweet experience involving the circle of life.

Today, fans are finally able to give Chuck Krantz the beefy thank you that he’s long deserved, as the official trailer for Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck has finally been released. Following a first look at CinemaCon in Las Vegas just two weeks ago, the rest of the world can now feast their eyes on the latest offering to come from famed filmmaker Flanagan and legendary genre author Stephen King. The best part about The Life of Chuck is that it diverges from the typical fare that audiences have seen in the past from both Flannigan and King, largely breaking out of the horror mold and taking audiences on an existential journey to rediscover the wonders of life alongside a cast led by Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange) and Karen Gillan (Oculus).

I know how much our readers love Stephen King and Mike Flanagan individually. So, it’s an extra special treat when the talented creators team up on a project. When that unholy pair comes together, they make magic. Doctor Sleep is a great showcase of the beloved storytellers combining their powers. But that’s far from their only team-up.
This June, we’ll get to see King and Flanagan’s latest collab, The Life of Chuck. If you don’t think you can wait until then, I have another Flanagan/King crossover in mind that you may want to check out. I’m talking about the Netflix horror-thriller, Gerald’s Game. It’s an emotionally charged, self-contained effort that needs to be seen.
Gerald’s Game plays out like this:
Jesse (Carla Gugino) accidentally kills her husband (Bruce Greenwood) during foreplay. They drove out to a remote area in an attempt to reignite their flailing relationship.

The upcoming film The Life of Chuck (which Neon will be giving a theatrical release on June 6) is the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – but it is not a horror movie. Neon has released a new poster of The Life of Chuck, which evokes a mysterious, but beautiful journey into an introspection of life.
Based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck consists of three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumor and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.
Tom Hiddleston (Loki) is playing Chuck, with Mark Hamill (Star Wars) playing a character named Albie.

Carrie, the subject of author Stephen King’s first published novel and one of the greatest female icons in the horror genre, is coming back – and this time Mike Flanagan is the one taking her to prom. It was announced last October that Flanagan was working with King to turn the story of Carrie into an eight episode series that will be released through Amazon’s Prime Video service. Flanagan is executive producing the series with Trevor Macy. Deadline noted at the time, “They’re opening a writer’s room, so this one’s happening quickly.” And it’s happening so quickly, it might have already found its lead! The boost that came last month makes Siebert the first woman to lead a major Hollywood talent agency. It comes nearly two years after Gersh received an investment from private equity firm Crestview Partners. Since then, the agency founded in the late 1940s by famed talent rep Phil Gersh has acquired the Madrid-based You First sports agency and the digital and alternative departments of what was formerly the A3 agency.
Siebert is a long-serving Gersh loyalist who joined the agency in the mid-1980s. Here Siebert discusses Gersh’s plan for growth and how she aims to build on its long legacy in Hollywood.
What is Gersh’s position in the representation landscape?

Last October, we got word that Mike Flanagan is set to re-team with Stephen King for a new small-screen adaptation of the legendary's author's first novel, Carrie, and we may now know who is in talks to play the lead roles.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Hereditary star Milly Shapiro is in negotiations to play the title role of Carrie, with Samantha Sloyan eyed to play the tormented teen's mother, Margaret White.
Shapiro played Charlie Graham in Ari Aster's Hereditary, and a key scene involving the character will surely go down as one of the most shocking moments in horror movie history.
Flanagan and King - who recently collaborated on the upcoming The Life of Chuck - are developing the supernatural coming-of-rage tale as an eight-episode series for Amazon, with Flanagan on board as showrunner and exec producer.

Stephen King has penned dozens of books and hundreds of short stories, many of which have been adapted for the screen with varying degrees of success. That said, the author's work is enduringly popular, and studios and networks can't get enough of his twisted imagination. That's why ABC came calling after he wrote an original screenplay for a miniseries called "Storm of the Century," an underrated gem from 1999 that deserves more recognition. The good news, however, is that it's available to stream on Hulu -- and you really need to watch it.
If you had to judge "Storm of the Century" just by reading the summary, you'd be forgiven for thinking it's a prototypical King story; however, this one packs more of a punch than most. The six-hour miniseries takes place in Little Tall Island, a sleepy town in Maine that becomes engulfed in terror following a blizzard and the...

While Stephen King is rightfully known as the Master of Horror, the prolific novelist could just as easily be called the Master of Feels. After all, without King, there is no Stand By Me, no The Shawshank Redemption, no The Green Mile. It makes sense then that Mike Flanagan, whose propensity for combining horror and heartfelt storytelling has made the likes of Midnight Mass and The Haunting Of Hill House unmissable, has proven one of King's best adapters. And having done both Doctor Sleep and Gerald's Game great justice on screen already, Flanagan's latest King movie, Tom Hiddleston starrer The Life Of Chuck, looks set to be one of his most emotional works yet. And you can catch a glimpse at the film below;

The upcoming film The Life of Chuck (which Neon will be giving a theatrical release on June 6th) is the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – but it is not a horror movie. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray got to see the movie a while back (you can read his 7/10 review Here) and described it as a “bittersweet tearjerker.” We’re still waiting to see a trailer for this one, but today a teaser poster has been unveiled and can be seen at the bottom of this article.

A few other alterations were also made, which may have been a bold move to make, but Perkins clarified that King had "...had no notes, and didn't tell me to change anything." "This summer, cameras are gonna roll on 'Clayface,' which is an incredible body horror film that reveals a compelling origin of a classic Batman villain," Peter Safran announced to an eager room of journalists at a special DC Studios press event, including /Film's own Bill Bria. "This is another title that we added to the slate on the strength of an exceptional screenplay by Mike Flanagan," he continued.
Since it was announced that the man who gave us "Doctor Sleep," "The Haunting of Hill House," "Midnight Mass," and "The Fall of the House of Usher" had turned in a script for a film based on one of the most interesting members of Batman's rogues gallery, horror fans have been frothing at the mouth for more information about what a supervillain movie written by a modern master of horror might look like in Safran and James Gunn's new slate of DC films,...

It's been two months since we first shared the very exciting news that modern master of horror Mike Flanagan is writing Clayface, a Dcu movie based on the classic Batman baddie, for James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios. But while the man behind Haunting Of Hill House and Midnight Mass is on script duty for the malleable miscreant's big-screen debut, it won't be Flanagan calling the shots on this one. As THR reports, that honour will be going to James Watkins, the director behind last year's terrifying English-language remake of Speak No Evil, Daniel Radcliffe starrer The Woman In Black, and 00s cult chiller Eden Lake.
According to THR's sources, Watkins met with DC Studios' co-leader Gunn yesterday, delivering a final presentation on his vision for the film that obviously hit the spot. Those same sources also suggest that the plot for this one will follow a B-movie...

DC’s Clayface movie is steadily taking shape, with Speak No Evil director James Watkins molding the feature film around the fan-favorite Batman villain. Watkins’s appointment to the gig comes after months of searching for the right director to adapt the project’s script, which was written by horror aficionado Mike Flanagan.
According to sources, studio co-head James Gunn met with Watkins on Thursday for a final presentation that landed Watkins the job. Next comes the drawing of contracts, scheduling, casting, and all that good stuff. Gunn notoriously had reservations about bringing Clayface to the silver screen. However, Flanagan’s concept and script were so good that Gunn could not pass on the opportunity.
While there’s no shortage of candidates when picking from Batman’s extensive rogue’s gallery, the shape-shifting villain Clayface would make a fine choice. Truth be told, he’s one of my favorite Bat-villains of all time.

Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, Doctor Sleep) is writing a Clayface movie for DC, and THR confirms this afternoon that a director has been found.
Flanagan himself will Not be directing the upcoming Clayface movie, with James Watkins taking a seat in the director’s chair.
Warner Bros. will release DC’s live action Clayface movie on September 11, 2026.
The Hollywood Reporter details, “Sources say the film is budgeted at $40 million and is a Hollywood horror tale centering on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay. The movie is due to shoot later this year.”
Flanagan tweeted back in 2021 that his dream Clayface movie was a “horror/thriller/tragedy,” and it sounds like that’s ultimately the movie he ended up writing for DC.

A special kind of comic book movie is beginning to take shape, with reports from The Hollywood Reporter (and originally My Time To Shine) that DC's Clayface project has found a director. James Watkins, who had audiences shifting in their seats with his 2024 "Speak No Evil" remake has been appointed to helm the film. Already a pretty good handler of horror, he'll be working off a script penned by Mike Flanagan, the creator behind "The Haunting of Hill House," "Midnight Mass" and "Doctor Sleep." It's the latest big leap in the film's development after Warner Bros. finally gave the DC spin-off the green light, an idea Flanagan had been kicking around since 2021.
In the comics, Clayface has been a name taken by many law-breakers who have all been on the hit list of Batman. Originally debuting in 1940, Clayface was first Basil Karlo, a down-on-his-luck actor who becomes a vengeful serial killer.

Mike Flanagan is a modern horror master who's adept at telling stories on both the big and small screen. From "The Haunting of Hill House" on Netflix to his underseen micro-budget thriller "Hush," the man has proven time and time again he's got the goods. More specifically, Flanagan has shown that he knows what it takes to make a great Stephen King adaptation, with the filmmaker putting his stamp on "The Life of Chuck" later this year. The last twenty-five years have been fantastic for television, from antihero-led dramas like The Sopranos and Breaking Bad, to thought-provoking speculative shows like The Leftovers and Midnight Mass. There are a lot of people who want Star Trek to be Ricky and Morty, True Detective, or Stranger Things. They want this marvelous franchise to "expirament" in ways that don't help it grow. Time and time and time again we find out that the best Star Trek are the shows that stick to being Star Trek.
When Star Trek: Enterprise dropped the 'Star Trek' to just be Enterprise, fans weren't happy with it. When Star Trek's Discovery and Picard went super dark, fans were unhappy about it. When the franchise launched Lower Decks, fans weren't happy with it. Save for Discovery's later seasons and Picard's last season, none of those shows really trended well with the fandom or the casuals.
Yet, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a ratings hit. Why? Because it adhered to the old formula of Star Trek shows. Which is what Star Trek fans want.

It’s no secret that Midnight Mass is Mike Flanagan’s most personal project to date, and it’s no wonder why he killed off a major character right in the middle of the show.
