Freak
Colcatron12 April 2011
A typical plot is saved by the exceptional directorial debut from cast member Michael Rosenbaum. It's unfortunate that he never directed another one after this. There is a lot going on in this episode. Several meteor freaks, who all have to be introduced, as well as Chloe's kidnapping, the mystery surrounding her possible power, Lana's ongoing suspicions of Clark, and Lex's further exploits in the dark side. This episode not only gives enough time for each element to be told effectively, it also includes some of the best acting of the season. It's impressive that "Freak" has such strong acting and execution of the plot, considering the story and script are nothing special. It would have been nice to see what Rosenbaum could have done with a stronger script.

The Unknown Ability of Chloe
claudio_carvalho12 May 2008
While celebrating her bachelorette's party at the bowling with Chloe, Lana is helped by the ability of the meteor freak Daniel Kim. The blind Tobias Rice, who has the ability to identify people infected by the meteor shower, points the teenager to Dr. Robert Bethany. Later, Chloe witnesses the abduction of Daniel by Lex's men in an alley and she tells Clark. However, Daniel returns without any recollection from the kidnapping. Clark discloses that the naive Tobias is helping Dr. Bethany expecting to have a cornea transplant. Meanwhile Lana follows her instincts believing that Clark is a "meteor-freak", while Chloe is kidnapped for having some mysterious power and is tagged with a GPS device beneath her shoulder.

The greatest question after watching this good episode is what is the unknown ability of Chloe? Clark is protected by the poor Tobias, and he is fond to see that Lana tried to protect that he is a meteor freak. The dark Lex Luthor is getting eviler in each show. My vote is seven.

Don't Let Tobias Detect You

Warning: Spoilers
This episode reveals a key new point for this season and any episode beyond that involves Chloe Sullivan.

Lana and Chloe go bowling for Lana's bachelorette party. However, an Asian worker at the bowling alley gets kidnapped that night, only to be returned that morning with no recollection of his abduction. The dirt behind this occurrence lies with a man named Tobias, who is blind but can detect meteor-infected people. The bowling alley worker had been detected, and taken for examination and surgery to remove his ability, but extract his DNA before removal. Then comes the stunner: Tobias detects Chloe! Clark and Chloe must find a way to remove an explosive GPS device implanted beneath her collarbone if she wants to stay alive. Meanwhile, it is revealed that Tobias is detecting "meteor freaks" with the promise that one day he will receive a cornea transplant. This comes from an evil surgeon who is working for... Lex Luthor, as research and preparation for his secret lab 33.1, seen for the first time at episodes' end.

This episode was a shocker. Who knew that such a secret would involve Chloe, the ultimate keeper of secrets? In addition, Lana gets strenuously close to Clark's secret, which he has kept his entire life from her. And the song at the episodes' end scene, where Lex walks down an aisle of 33.1 with angry arms grabbing at him through bars, perfectly accompanies the chilling moment.

Mistaken identity?
LittleStorpingInTheSwuff26 September 2018
I'm watching these for the first time, in order, so I have no idea what will happen in future episodes. But is it possible that Tobias actually recognized Clark as a 'meteor freak' but thought it was Chloe?
