Storyline

When Chloe spots a meteor freak at a bowling alley during Lana's bachelorette party, she follows him only to see him get abducted. Chloe warns Clark and they investigate further. They uncover that one of their high school friends, Tobais Rice, who is blind and has meteor-rock powers, is being used by Lex to help him find meteor-rock infected people to add to his 33.1 facility. Meanwhile, Lana gets strenuously close to discovering Clark's secret. She suspects that Clark is a meteor freak when she thinks that Tobias has targeted him. However, everyone is shocked when Chloe ends up getting abducted for having meteor-rock powers she never knew had. Written by James Foster

Quotes

Tobias Rice: Why would you do that for me?
Lana Lang: Because you may be putting someone at risk who saves people's lives on practically a daily basis. I can't let that happen.
Tobias Rice: Who told you about me? Clark Kent?
Lana Lang: Clark was here?
Tobias Rice: You seem surprised.
Lana Lang: Did you tell anyone about him?
Tobias Rice: What's to tell?
Lana Lang: Tobias, it's okay, you can trust me. I know that Clark's infected.
Tobias Rice: You must be talking about a different Clark Kent. Because the Clark I know is the most normal guy I've ever met.

Freak
12 April 2011 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

A typical plot is saved by the exceptional directorial debut from cast member Michael Rosenbaum. It's unfortunate that he never directed another one after this. There is a lot going on in this episode. Several meteor freaks, who all have to be introduced, as well as Chloe's kidnapping, the mystery surrounding her possible power, Lana's ongoing suspicions of Clark, and Lex's further exploits in the dark side. This episode not only gives enough time for each element to be told effectively, it also includes some of the best acting of the season. It's impressive that "Freak" has such strong acting and execution of the plot, considering the story and script are nothing special. It would have been nice to see what Rosenbaum could have done with a stronger script.
