1. “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” (available November 25)
Why Should I Watch It? Capping America’s year of nostalgia, Netflix is finally releasing the much-anticipated “Gilmore Girls” revival. Told in four 90-minutes segments, the new episodes will reunite the stars and creator of the early aughts favorite, similar to recent continuations on Netflix and elsewhere. Needles to say, anyone who visited Stars Hollow before is quite eager to see where on the ‘member berries spectrum “A Year in the Life” will fall: the high of “Stranger Things” or the low of “Fuller House”?
Best Episode: From what we’ve seen of the new footage, things are looking good for Amy Sherman-Palladino’s fresh stories. That being said, we haven’t snagged a screener of any episodes, so we’re on pins and needles with the rest of you.

- I’ve been reading articles in Screen Daily and THR about the current state of Korean film industry, how auteurs filmmakers are having a terrible time in seducing local audiences and thus getting proper funding, and now the current vague of producers are actually shifting production money towards international productions – a trend I don’t see as a particular threat. The Kim Ki Duks and the Pen-Ek Ratanaruangs will always make films that are for a select crowd, and if they continue to explore their themes with the same visual flair then a more broader audience will keep giving them work. It’s an odd mathematical solution...but it works. Below you'll a pair of Asian films (Singapore and Japan) that are curious selections for Cannes comp and certain regard categories. On the Menu: Yesterday's main courseMy string of great back to back viewing has suffered a minor blow.

- Yesterday I came close to tearing up and it might be the sentimental favorite for the jurors for this fest. It’s got a pulse, feels less artificial than similar in theme films like the award-winning The Sea Inside and it is void of any moralistic take. Look for Julian Schnabel’s Le Scaphandre et le papillon to score big on Sunday – of course it has got Van Sant’s film and perhaps Fatih Akin’s latest to contend with. Unless your name is Michael Jackson, the stinker so far for me in this festival is Harmony Korine’s Mister Lonely. I wanted to walk out after 20 minutes – although the best part comes with Werner Herzog comically playing some priest…and that occurs somewhere in the first 25 minutes. Korine has his fans but I wonder what players like Diego Luna and Samantha Morton saw in the screenplay. On that
