The Tests
claudio_carvalho15 April 2019
Daniel, Vala, Mitchell and Teal'c survive to Merlin's tests and find the treasure. Daniel finds a book and an alien device and believes the Ancients come from another galaxy. Further, he also believes that the device is a communication device and decides to use with Vala. However they have a surprise.

"Avalon: Part 2" is the good sequel of Part 1. The full of action episodes alternates funny with dramatic moments and is worthwhile watching. Let´s see how it will conclude. My vote is seven.

Glad to see a new dynamic as far as villains and dare I say protagonists. The cast chemistry is working well and acting is decent. Storyline is well developed.

On My Top 10 List For Best Episodes
aburton1610 February 2007
This episode is by far one the best I have seen. From start to finish this episode had me glued to the tube, as some would say. With the comic bickering between Daniel and Vala to the dramatic, heart racing ending - it left behind quite a cliffhanger and jaw dropping ending for me. But with this season out on DVD you don't have to wait a week to find out what happens if you own it. Well you could...why would you do that? In my eye, it brought Jackson's and Vala's character to a whole new level. This episode is a must watch for a Stargate fan or even if you don't really watch the show you'll still appreciate how the story unfolds. An excellent start for the season!

Stargate taken over by Farscape
jmkeating19 February 2006
When it started I had an open mind about Richard Dean Anderson being replaced by Bill Browder and with the "special appearance" of Claudia Black. May I add that I enjoyed Farscape and that I bought the whole series but towards the end (seasons 3 & 4) it began to go "a bit loony". It appears to me that Stargate season 10 is "going loony" too. I don't like Bill Browder's "swagger" - he seems to play a far less professional role than did Richard Dean A. - not very logical in such a situation. Claudia Black has none of the femininity nor the character of Amanda Tapping. She has no "pazzaz" - shame.

Beau Bridges, too, isn't at all "in his place" - it's hard to believe that his "character" would be put in charge of such a project - or are US generals like that? - nothing like Norman Schwarzkopf.

Let's see how the other episodes go (over this side of the Atlantic) but it looks like it's off to a bad start.

"Hallowed are the Ori"
XweAponX25 August 2015
There are two concepts that seem related, but are not, that people struggle with. FAITH and Religion.

Ironically, the gist of SG-1 for 8 years had been the concept of what Teal'c refers to as "False Gods - Dead False Gods". The Goa'Uld had built themselves an idyllic infrastructure based on slavery and a false religion. Many episodes explored characters who had Faith - they find out that Faith itself is what's important, not really what god or religion it is being directed at.

Daniel and Vala stumble upon a whole galaxy of conservatives, who believe faith is not enough, but that the whole galaxy, universe even, ought to believe exactly what they believe. This sounds like my years growing up in the Catholic Church, where dissension was not allowed and I was required to believe bible passages as fact, even when proved scientifically impossible. In which case, science itself is Daemonized as being "evil"- Simply because it proves that particular verses cannot be taken at face value. But I have found that there is always room for both Faith and Science. Being a long time fan of science fiction and of science in general, "I want to believe" that Stargates can be made, along with Warp Drives and Transporters. And I would have no trouble using those devices while having Faith. But some hard-liners would deny me that - If they had the power to prevent it.

The frightening thing is that our new bad guys "The Ori" can enforce their conservatism with god-like powers. Think of what would happen if Tele-Evangelists were given this power, imagine it. The Ori punish everyone who does not follow a rigid creed.

Having Faith is one thing, rigidly adhering to a religion's creed is another, especially when it requires that you convert everyone you know and meet. True Faith does not require anything but the Faith itself, there are no additional tasks that need to be done. But a Religion is nothing but a set of beliefs you have to strictly adhere to, and anyone who does not agree with you is going to hell. But real Faith has shown that there is room for other belief-sets. And all that is required with Faith is that you have it. Ironically, most religions have passages that negate the need for works, yet those are ignored by most religions' followers.

This is what makes The Ori the most Frightening of all of SG-1's foes: Because they are given the power to kill everyone who does not agree with their rulebook. And the extent of that power is vast. Do we really need a religion like that? I don't.

SG-1 fearlessly explored militant religions in seasons 9 and 10 and I salute the courage it took to do those stories. But what I enjoyed most was that they never seemed to be able to beat a subject to death, the previous bad guys could always show up with a few more new twists.

Claudia Black ruined the show!
bigdinz26 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I've watched all 8 seasons in the last week and it's fantastic! .....

....up until Claudia Black becomes a regular occurrence. Whoever made this decision killed SG1. I can't hit the FF button hard enough when scenes with her in them come on, and it's entirely too often in season 9. I don't know what happened with our beloved regulars in season 9 but it was an idiotic and just plain dumb idea. It's as if they're starting a whole new show. I'll continue until the end so I may see that the "original crew" finish it off. God I hope they do.

Fahoo Fores Dahoo Dores
fcabanski27 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
It begins with Daniel solving a puzzle to stop the ceiling from crushing Vala and him. Then Col. Mitchell solves a puzzle to stop the ceiling from crushing Teal'c and him.

Apparently the height of Ancient wisdom is knowing the alphabet, as Col. Mitchell's puzzle involves numbers and their mirror images. Daniel also puts some of his knowledge of Oma's silly sayings to use.

Col. Mitchell has a sword fight with a knight. Somehow flunking fencing made Mitchell an expert in an unrelated form of two handed sword combat.

It gets worse from there. They find the a device for the stones that let the barber see O'Neill's life. They use the stones and device to take over bodies of people from another galaxy. In this across the galaxy place the silly Christians, er Ori worshipers, worship the Ori, who may be ascended Ancients.

Just in case the "religious people are nuts" point of the Goa'uld didn't get through, the Stargate writers took it to a whole new level with the Ori.

Stargate Farscape continues.

Warning: Spoilers
SG1 becomes a rom-com, except there's no romance & woeful comic relief. As I have been mentioning, the last 2 seasons never should have made. You can't replace SG1. RD Anderson and Amanda Tapping have left. The latter does some episodes, but the former is in cameos only. After all, he has been a oroducer of the series for years. Time to go. Watch SGA instead.
