Upon its initial 2016 release, critics raved about Japanese filmmaker Shunji Iwai’s “A Bride For Rip Van Winkle.” Serving as an adaptation of Iwai’s own novel, “Hana and Alice,” “Bride” tells the story of a lonely woman named Nanami who decides to marry a man she met online. But because of the cavalcade of lies she’s told her new beau, she must then pay people from the Internet to attend the wedding as her friends and family.
The comical, yet crushingly sad film delivers a harsh look into the desperation and lack of genuineness in the age of social media. Iwai has previously dealt with the uglier sides of romance in his previous movies such as “Love Letter” and “All About Lily Chou-Chou,” which also expose the desperation and dishonesty that accompanies the search for love.
“A Bride For Rip Van Winkle” is finally opening in U.S.

A moment of silence, please, for the handsome and talented Uggie, who was put to sleep on Friday, August 7, after suffering from a prostate tumor. He was 13. Uggie, a Jack Russell Terrier, may be best known from the 2011 Oscar-winning film "The Artist," but he also starred with Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon in"Water for Elephants," and appeared in "Mr. Fix It," the TV movie "Holiday Road Trip," and a "Key and Peele" sketch.
Uggie's owner/father, Omar Von Mueller, told TMZ it was a difficult decision to say goodbye to Uggie, but the tumor had left him suffering and the last few weeks were especially tough. Sarah Clifford trained Uggie and told TMZ he was "a perfect little terrier" with boundless energy. "I will forever hold him dearly in my heart and never forget his infinite love for chicken and hotdogs." Sniff.

There was no mess for Liev Schreiber to clean up at the TV Academy's event for Showtime's critically acclaimed new series "Ray Donovan." But Schreiber set the record straight on why he agreed to take on the title role of a Mr. Fix It after spending years turning down TV offers. -Break- Schreiber recalled how series creator Ann Biderman screamed at him in a hotel lobby: "You have to do this show! I need a man!" Schreiber thought, "I'd never been called a 'man' in such direct terms. I said, 'Yes, you're right. I am pretty masculine. I probably should do that show.'" Schreiber recently picked up a Golden Globe nomination for his work as Ray Donovan, a glorified "clean-up" pro for the celebs and the wealthy of Los Angeles. Jon Voight won a Globe in the supporting race for portraying Ray's just-out-of-prison and troublesome father Mickey. Both stars...

Everyone loves Uggie, the adorable pooch who stole the show on Sunday when "The Artist" picked up the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical).
And now, the world's most famous Jack Russell terrier has landed a Valentine of his own. But it's not what you're thinking — he has not yet found true love (or if he has, he's keeping that bit of news away from the press).
He has, however, landed a Valentine card from American Greetings.
According to E! Online, in the eCard, Uggie shows off his mad skills on a skateboard. (Seriously, is there anything this dog can't do?) As he breezes by, "Awwwwwww, Awwwwwwwsome! That's you, Happy Valentine's Day!" flashes on screen. Not that anyone cares what it says. Did we mention that Uggie can skateboard?!
This eCard marks new territory for the 9-year-old dog, who previously worked exclusively in film. In addition to "The Artist,...

Monsters has been a pretty good luck charm for those involved. Gareth Edwards is now shepherding a new era of Godzilla, and now lead actor in the film Scoot McNairy will be doing the Cogan Trade film that has one hell of an ensemble cast already. McNairy has landed a lead alongside Brad Pitt and a great supporting cast in the Andrew Dominik-directed Cogan’s Trade. The film follows Jackie Cogan (Brad Pitt) a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that went down during a mob-protected poker game.
The current cast ensemble for the film is Pitt, McNairy, Ray Liotta, Javier Bardem, Casey Affleck, Mark Ruffalo, Sam Rockwell, Richard Jenkins and James Gandolfini.
He is also in contention for another lead role in the Ridley Scott-directed Prometheus where he would be joining Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron. Finally he is circling the role of Josh Speed...

Tonight's episode of Lost requires a Spoiler Alert! for anyone who doesn't like going into episodes knowing the character focus of the story, because the title kinda gives it away, a la the Ben-centric "Dr. Linus." Hence -- Spoiler Alert! -- "Everybody Loves Hugo" is all about everyone's favorite lottery-winning ghost whisperer, Hurley. The title is a reversal on Hurley's season 2 episode "Everybody Hates Hugo;" you can refresh your memory of the story by reading the synopsis at Lostpedia, or EW.com's recap of the episode, which I think you'll find to be an informative, insightful, and entertaining narrative. Translation: I didn't write it.
