In seniors home Rosenstift, nurse Gerd Ruge is fatally digitalis-poisoned. He was unpopular, rude and suspected of stealing from resident patients. Indeed, detectives Lind and Hofer find jewelry he stole, including a necklace from eldest resident Marlene Maurer, once also Korbinian's primary teacher. Her blue-blooded but paternally abandoned half-sister, haughty snob Vera von Strebl, despised Gerd Ruge but hides a deeper grudge. Ruge blackmailed home director Dr. Brahms about insurance fraud to steal from deceased residents. Foxy nurse Carmen Hübner moonlights as 'exotic dancer Kim' in a night club, where Ruge was a regular, like the home's regular GP Dr. Weisser, who wanted to save Carmen Hübner from Ruge. Club owner Rico Landuris dislikes Carmen's plan to stop the job she only took to put herself through studies. Hofer and Lind only crack the case after realizing Ruge may not have been the intended victim, just when the killer tries to strike again. Meanwhile Stockl mobilizes the precinct to arrange a hasty surprise party for chief Achtziger, only the baker got the cake text wrong, and she the actual birthday.

Korbinian Hofer, Christian Lind and 'Michi' Mohr must identify a corpse found in a magic trick chest by a passing jogger in the woods. His cellphone refers them to circus director Lilja Stern, who confirms it's her dog act trainer Mihail 'Micky' Opitz, whom she drove to the railway station two days ago to renew his Romanian passport and visa in München (Munich). Artist Carl Radek tells she considered dumping Opitz. Forensics prove uncertain, as the corpse was frozen, rendering all chronology dubious. Cause of death is asphyxiation, Dr. Kern suspects in the trunk on a flight. That requires an accomplice driving him, a flight from Bratislava to München would fit. A motive may be found in another crime: the theft of a Picasso, small enough to hide in the trunk, to be linked to the circus people. Meanwhile the precinct buzzes as a new post is imposed: a controller, Patrizia Ortmann, who must get an office and happens to bump into Christian in Jo's pub.

The corpse in found in Buchner's partner Robert Lappich's car booth, he claims it was put there and he 'just' intended to get rid of it, being obvious suspect as practice heir. Marlene Buchner started as his practice nurse, becoming lover and ousting first wife Anette Siegl, who lost everything. Voß meanwhile worries more about having to leave his beloved host Marie Hofer, while chief Achtziger works on an acceptance speech as music academy director on Mozart, ignoring the actual date.

Reporter Sebastian Waldheimer, in a weird suit and helmet, was fatally hut by a car and left in front of a supermarket. Working on articles about the elderly, he tried out a borrowed 'Age-Explorer' suit from seniors home "Sonnenberg", where it helps staff to grasp the residents' physical experience. Korbinian Hofer and constable Michi Mohr notice the damaged car of the home's own physician, Dr. Arthur Passauer, who denies a recent accident and turns out an uncle of "Times Square" publican Jo Caspar, whom he gives a free checkup there. Sebastian frequently called home manager Cornelia Wesslinger, whose popular right hand and boyfriend Ludger Mollenhauer whispers Passauer and Waldheimer bickered about old letters, which Jo is asked to remove, too late. But there's also inconspicuous fraud. Meanwhile the precinct buzzes with rumors since absent detective Christian Lind and controller Patrizia Ortmann didn't return together from a Munich course.

Eberhard Winkler is Rosenheim's first bee venom murder victim. He was allergic, the killer hid a dozen bees in his pillow, not fatal to a normal person, and he was forcibly prevented from taking his histamine medicine at hand, as blues attest. Suspects in the know of his allergy include ex wife Cornelia, dumped after adultery, and her partner, beekeeping farmer Horst Göbel, and Winkler's business partner Ewald Reuter, who now inherits their joint yacht business, where accountant Ortmann finds 'fake books' to cover up massive price fraud. She also inspires chief Achziger to give the detective economy driving lessons, which turns out badly with Lindt and Corbinian as semi-amused passengers.

Genealogist Hubertus Schober is found murdered in his Rosenheim hotel room, having traveled through Leipzig to meet a kinsman, hand injury-retired concert pianist Albrecht Kuhn and city archivist Udo Postel, his fellow genealogist correspondent, whom he didn't meet either. Hofer and Lind find Schober called Udo Postel and the police to file a fraud complaint, which may concern rather uncooperative Albrecht Kuhn, whose alibi, house maid Marlies Oberhuber, and 'female company' still may fall through. Postel's Internet aristocratic ancestors research website delights Stockl, till it proves a cheap fraud.

Tobias Hartl, from the Rosenheim PD burglary section, is suspected of theft, and part of evidence loot is found in his home.
