Tenant farmer Markwart Painter asphyxiated, locked up in his silo before it was filled. Neighbor Kranzberg, the largest neighborhood farmer, presides the local association which opposes Painter's plan to start growing genetically modified corn, his only alibi being his wife Edith. In Franz Buchner's barn are found the petrol canisters, used to poison Painter's field. Their teen kids Martin Kranzberg and Sophie Painter however are lovers, but that may be incestuous. Controller Patrizia Ortmann found Korbinian Hofer far too often "SB" puts meaning "Stand-by" in his daily time report, which is a euphemism for being at the farm he runs with sister Marie, so Achtziger forbids him to do so again without permission in advance, and asks Lindt to charmingly or wittily prevent Ortmann going public.

Miki's former schoolmate Sigi Retzer is found by Jo, passed-out drunk and amnesiac in his parked car, besides a female corpse, presumably his fiancee Janina Schedlich, beaten to death, but she's alive, the victim recognized by Jo's waitress Susanne Bergmann as Retzer's restaurant date who had a public row with Paulus, who runs a rented farm with his father, allegedly also selling what isn't theirs. It's Anna Lapsina, the Estonian who cared for wealthy Margarethe Schwinghammer since a car accident landed her in a wheelchair, and knew about her husband's affair with Anna. A valuable antique necklace stolen from Anna, leaving a neck mark, was sold to a jeweler by a young man. Meanwhile Miki is furious that chief Achziger successfully proposed him for a promotion, as that would require moving to another Bavarian city.
