In the seven previous editions (with 2007 being the best crop of films with noteworthy titles such as Bertrand Bonello's De La Guerre, Michelangelo Frammartino's Le Quattro Volte, Semih Kaplanoglu's Milk, Ciro Guerra's The Wind Journey, João Pedro Rodrigues' To Die Like A Man and So Yong Kim's Treeless Mountain), L’Atelier has been a pivotal stop for new auteurs in world cinema finding some coin. And while this doesn't carry the same weight as Rotterdam, so far the ratio is 72 for 115. Among the 15 projects selected this year we find find the likes of Dutch helmer Marco van Geffen (pictured) who gave us last year's Au Pair mystery Among Us (Locarno, Tiff), docu helmer Mahmoud Al Massad (Sundance's Recycle) and a foursome of filmmakers (Pengfei Song, Mai Masri, Pablo Lamar and Adina Pintilie) who've workshopped their nascent projects at the well-regarded Torino Film Labs. Do not adjust your TV sets. Or computer monitors. Or WebTV. Whatever you're using to read this. The wacky and crazy creator of the Evil Dead films and one of the busiest directors in Hollywood has decided to take on a horror project. We love The Evil Dead, we enjoyed Drag Me To Hell so when we heard this news, we got excited!...
What is Rami's next project? Well, the director and his company Ghost House Pictures have acquired the R.L. Stine novel “The Sitter” and plans to turn it into a movie called “The Au Pair”. Why the wacky french name? Who knows? We like the title of the book but apparently Raimi thinks french words are scarier.
According to Beyond-Hollywood, "The film will follow a young woman who runs from a troubled relationship by spending a fun-filled, romantic summer as a nanny in a posh Hamptons beach house.

Just last month it was announced that R.L. Stine's Goosebumps books would be given the big screen treatment. It was cool news for anyone who, like me, grew up on stories like Night of the Living Dummy or The Haunted Mask. They were cheap little paperbacks but a fun read nonetheless. But while a great deal of Stine's focus was on horror for children, he did write some adult-oriented books, and now one of them is getting its own deal. THR reports that Sam Raimi's production company Ghost House Pictures has purchased the rights to Stine's novel The Sitter with plans to make it into a film (though the title will be changed to The Au Pair). First published in 2003, the film is about a young woman who gets a job as a nanny in the Hamptons, which goes well until she discovers a horrifying secret. Does it...

That Sam Raimi, he’s one busy fella. Besides directing 20 movies at once, producing 50 more, and building shelters for the homeless, Sam Raimi and his Ghost House Pictures have acquired the R.L. Stine novel “The Sitter” and plans to turn it into a movie called “The Au Pair”. Why “The Au Pair” and not “The Sitter”? Probably because “The Au Pair” sounds more French, and thus, more evil. Eeeeeeeeeeeeevil. Ahem. The film will follow a young woman who runs from a troubled relationship by spending a fun-filled, romantic summer as a nanny in a posh Hamptons beach house. This dream job takes a frightening turn when she uncovers a dark secret that haunts her and the kids she’s sworn to protect. And did I mention it’s set n the Hamptons? The horror, the horror. Dana Stevens, who wrote “For the Love of the Game” for Raimi, will write the script.

In addition to his experience with Irish comedies, his openness during the audition process helped Brendan Ryan land the title role in Shadow Lawn Stage's summer production of Hugh Leonard's "The Au Pair Man," at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J."The audition experience for me is always fun," says the Equity actor. "I tend maybe not to focus like I should on the text as other actors do. I hate that feeling of overthinking when I go over and over the text…. One thing that helped was that there were more women than men, so I got to read more than just once and do things differently each time, because each actress was different. I love that opportunity to read more than once." As opposed to making a conscious choice to vary his readings, Ryan made himself receptive to what the other person in the scene...
