Channing Tatum is set to star in and produce MGM’s live-action film adaptation of his children’s book “The One and Only Sparkella,” according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Pamela Ribon is set to write the script for the adaptation.
Channing will produce via his Free Association banner. Michael Parets will oversee the project at Free Association. Parets, Tatum, Peter Kiernan, Reid Carolin and Cody Carolin will also serve as producers. The project is a part of Free Association’s first look deal with MGM, which was announced last year.

Three new recent theatrical releases, two of which have grossed over 50 million, all of which were in this weekend’s theatrical Top Ten, share the #1 VOD chart spots among the listings we follow. This rare split is accompanied by another never before seen occurrence that may never happen again.
“The Lost City” (Paramount), “The Northman” (Focus), and “The Bad Guys” (Universal), all available to see for 19.99, split up the top spot. That’s unusual. But what is unprecedented is that only 11 films — one more than the bare minimum — made the charts. And the odd film in did so because of one site’s 0.99 promotion.
The three new releases pushed Sony out of the top spot after two months. Since mid-March, either “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “Uncharted,” both now 5.99, have led all charts except for one week at one site.
Sony could easily top one or more chart again next week.

There’s plenty of action in the new movie The Lost City, but Daniel Radcliffe didn’t get to experience much of it. Radcliffe told us that his experience on the film was very much like his experience with the “Harry Potter” franchise, where the bulk of his action sequences were filmed with stunt crews handling most […]

As both an actor and a producer, Sandra Bullock says she’s had a great experience working on The Lost City. She loved the chemistry she enjoyed with her co-star, Channing Tatum, which is always so crucial for a romantic comedy. But Bullock also had a lot of praise for the film’s script, which she told […]

Daniel Radcliffe will not be adding to The Slap discourse any time soon.
The “Lost City” star revealed on “Good Morning Britain” (via Variety) that he is tired of everyone weighing in on Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars on March 27.
“I’m just so already dramatically bored of hearing people’s opinions about it that I just don’t want to be another opinion adding to it,” Radcliffe said when asked what his take was. Best Actor winner Smith slapped presenter Rock after Rock made a “G.I. Jane 2” joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair. Pinkett Smith previously revealed she has alopecia.
Radcliffe, however, did open up about attending awards shows where presenters or hosts tease actors in the audience. “When you’re going on stuff as a kid you’re never quite sure if the joke’s with you or you’re the butt of the joke,...

Tuesday Update, writethru: After setting a new opening day record for a local title in India on Friday, S.S. Rajamouli’s Rrr (Rise! Roar! Revolt!) continued a strong run in the home market throughout the weekend and picked up an estimated $60M+ globally. Of that, $16M is from outside of India (including $9.5M in North America).
Getting reliable numbers out of India is challenging — there is no centralized reporting system, and it gets even more ornery when a movie is released in several different language versions. However, as we reported on Sunday, the estimate is holding at about $46M (348 crore) for the weekend, coming in just behind Rajamouli’s previous record-setter, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. Globally, comScore is reporting a $63.2M weekend in 21 markets (including North America and India). Some estimates have the worldwide gross on either side of that.
Either way, Rrr was the No. 1 movie worldwide this weekend.

Sunday Am updated: In what is a record opening during the pandemic for a female-driven feature, Paramount’s Sandra Bullock-Channing Tatum romantic comedy adventure The Lost City is opening to $31M after a $11.55M Friday and $11.8M Saturday.
While the older female demographic has been known to be cautious about moviegoing during the pandemic, they indeed showed up at 61% overall, with those over 35 repping close to half the crowd. Previously, over Valentine’s Day weekend, two-glossy female targeted movies tried to deliver, but did not in their openings: Death on the Nile ($12.8M) and Marry Me ($7.9M).
Moreover, give it up for an original piece of content opening at the box office off of sheer star power, and not brand IP.
“It’s kind of a throwback,” says Paramount Domestic Distribution Boss Chris Aronson this morning. “But it shows that movies still matter.”
“This is very much a crowd-pleasing movie,...

The Lost City began filming in the jungles of the Dominican Republic in May 2021. That is less than a year ago. But considering how different the world was even 10 months back, it may as well have been a lifetime for star, producer, and overall Lost City champion, Sandra Bullock. It’s easy to forget now, but the vaccine rollout was still in its early fitful days during the movie’s pre-production phase, and until those cameras rolled the process was its own desperate escape.
“You just shot me back trying to find a vaccine,” Bullock says when we mention the remarkable time period that The Lost City was made during. “I mean, I was running around trying to find one. They were not available. By the time we had gotten there for the scout, they were becoming more available, but I felt like I was on the black market, you know?...

The Batman crossed $300 million domestic on Sunday and $600 million worldwide earlier this week, and it will soon fly past the grosses of Batman v Superman ($330 million) and Joker ($335 million) to become the third highest grossing Batman film domestically behind The Dark Knight ($535 million) and The Dark Knight Rises ($448 million). The Robert Pattinson starring reboot doesn’t seem likely to pass Tdkr, but ending up as the biggest non-Nolan Batman film is a nice feather in its cap, as is being the second biggest pandemic-era film. There has been little else going on at the box office this month, but after three weeks of total dominance, The Batman finally faces a formidable box office challenger this weekend.
Though it could be a tight race, we’re expecting Paramount’s star-studded adventure rom-com The Lost City to dethrone the caped crusader for the number one spot, and the studio predicts an opening...

Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum to the principal's office, please! During a March 23 appearance on The Late Late Show, the Lost City co-stars revealed that they first met in the principal's office of their daughters' preschool. When host James Corden inquired about what took place, Channing said, "We have two very, very strong-willed little girls, you know, that at that young age were very much buttin' heads." Sandra—mom to son Louis, 12, and daughter Laila, 10—shared that one day after another "altercation," she wondered if she needed to contact the Magic Mike actor or his ex-wife...

Exclusive: Curate Management founder Britton Rizzio has promoted TV and film literary manager Courtney Conwell to partner, Deadline has learned.
Rizzio formed Curate in November to provide a hands-on and global approach to representation and saw a coveted roster of clients align with the new venture, one of the few female-owned literary management firms in Hollywood.
“I’m thrilled to be able to elevate Courtney and have always seen her as a leader. She’s forward-thinking, doesn’t settle for status quo, and is a fierce protector of her clients’ voices,” Rizzio tells Deadline. “Curate represents innovative and ground-breaking thinkers, my goal is to build a team of managers and producers who reflect those values.”
Conwell’s roster includes visionary storytellers such as writer/director Emily Carmichael (Jurassic World Dominion), Our Lady J (Pose), Sarah Lampert (Ginny and Georgia), Emma Fletcher (Social Justice Warrior), Corina Maritescu (Joe vs. Carole), Emily Kaczmarek...

The female demographic has shown to be one of the more reluctant to return to cinemas during the pandemic, but that is about to change this weekend with Paramount’s The Lost City, which is eyeing a mid-$20M start, possibly $30M+, at 4,228 theaters. The pic is 89% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Although they just completed their visit to the “Lost City,” Adam and Aaron Nee are quickly gearing up for a trip to the planet Eternia.
Following years of speculation about a “Masters of the Universe” reboot, which hasn’t had a live-action film since 1987, the Nee brothers were announced as the film’s directors four years ago. Now, they’re finally preparing to begin shooting the Mattel Studios and Netflix film this summer, with “West Side Story’s” Kyle Allen attached in the role of He-Man. Speaking to Variety on Monday at the premiere of their film “The Lost City” at the Regency Village Theatre in L.A., the Nee brothers teased what fans can expect from Allen in the role.
“He has such incredible emotional vulnerability, he’s just an amazing dramatic actor, but he’s funny like Michael J. Fox,” Adam said. “Like he has this special thing,...

Sandra Bullock reportedly gave up on sequels thanks to the car (boat?) crash at the box office that was “Speed 2.”
The 1997 follow-up film was so devastating that even Bullock is still thinking about its lack of fandom 25 years later.
“I have one [that] no one came around to and I’m still embarrassed I was in. It’s called ‘Speed 2,'” Bullock told Too Fab while promoting her new film, “The Lost City.” “I’ve been very vocal about it. Makes no sense. Slow boat. Slowly going towards an island.”
Bullock continued, “That’s one I wished I hadn’t done and no fans came around, that I know of, except for you,” telling the reporter. Her “Lost City” co-star Daniel Radcliffe, whose famed franchise “Harry Potter” relied on sequels, chimed in to console Bullock.
