The female-focused spinoff to the John Wick franchise is moving forward at Lionsgate.
Len Wiseman is coming back to movies after a seven year break from the big screen. His last film was 2012's Total Recall remake with Colin Farrell, and since then he's directed episodes of Swamp Thing, Sleepy Hollow and The Gifted, among others. Now, it's been announced that he will helm Lionsgate's John Wick spinoff film, Ballerina.
Per Deadline Ballerina "focuses on a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family" and so presumably we'll be delving into the life of one of Angelica Houston's brutalized protégés from John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum. This will be a female character-driven project written by Shay Hatten, who co-wrote Parabellum and Zack Snyder's Netflix movie, Army Of The Dead.
There is currently no official lead actress attached to the film.
