Once reserved for kush lovers to gather and light up, April 20 has become an unofficial national holiday. With the legalization of recreational cannabis in 21 U.S. states and decriminalization in 10, online and brick-and-mortar retailers and brands are toasting 4/20 with deals on hemp-powered products.
And these days, you can’t throw a rock without hitting a celebrity cannabis line: Snoop Dogg, Tommy Chong and Cheech Marin, Willie Nelson (who has a coffee brand), Jay-Z (who launched Monogram in 2020), Seth Rogen (who co-founded Houseplant with writing partner Evan Goldberg), Mike Tyson, Martha Stewart, John Legend (an investor of Plus Products) and DJ Khaled are just a handful of stars who have gotten into the ganja game. (It’s worth noting that Kirsten Bell’s Happy Dance shuttered earlier this year.

It might seem strange that it took Disney six years to get a sequel to “Frozen” together — after all, it was only the biggest animated movie ever at the global box office, and most studios would have turned around a follow-up as quickly as possible. But Disney, of course, has the luxury of time to try to make sure it gets the sequel right. So the media giant didn’t rush things, and now “Frozen II” has finally arrived.
Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven are all back in “Frozen II” for a new adventure, but the new film has a lot to live up to. The original “Frozen” was groundbreaking for how it reinvented the Disney princess template for the 21st Century, giving its two heroines a sense of real agency and establishing a strong relationship between two women that’s rarely seen on screen. And of course, the...

“Frozen II,” Disney’s follow-up to the pop culture phenomenon “Frozen” from 2013, brought in $8.5 million at the box office in Thursday night previews beginning at 6 p.m. It opens on over 4,300 screens this weekend.
The fall box office is finally set to heat up with the arrival of “Frozen II,” which the studio is projecting for an opening in the $100 million range, with trackers saying it should land between $105-115 million, though it could rise to $130 million if the excitement is as high as some trackers suspect. It opens opposite “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” which stars Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers, and the thriller “21 Bridges” starring Chadwick Boseman, both of which go wide in the last weekend before Thanksgiving.
“Frozen II” already soared past all-time records for animated films in pre-sales on the ticketing site Fandango. So the comp to watch is “Incredibles 2,” which hit a...

The moral of the “Frozen” movies has always been that sisters must stick together at all costs. In the new trailer for “Frozen II,” that bond is tested when Elsa has to use her powers to find a hidden, magical forest that threatens the safety of Arendelle.
“I’m going with you,” Anna declares. “Excuse me, I climbed a cliff, survived a frozen heart and saved you from my ex-boyfriend, so … you know, I’m coming.”
It’s a big taste of an actual plot that we didn’t see the first time around in the trailer for “Frozen II.” And this one has scores of action in the form of a dangerous wind storm, Elsa bounding across ice spires and even riding a frozen horse to battle a giant rock titan.

The personalization of Netflix home pages does not extend to the race of the user, the streaming giant said on Thursday, denying user accusations to the contrary.
Writer and podcast host Stacia L Brown said that the icon on her account for the Netflix film “Like Father” was showcasing the black actors Leonard Ouzts and Blaire Brooks, as opposed to the film’s white stars Kirsten Bell and Kelsey Grammar.
“Other Black @netflix users: does your queue do this? Generate posters with the Black cast members on them to try to compel you to watch?” she wrote in a tweet last week.

For a dozen years, Fantastic Fest reigned supreme as the most exciting gathering for genre movie fans in America. The Austin-based film festival, one of the flagship events of the Alamo Drafthouse theater chain, combined its party-loving environment with an expansive approach to genre fandom, launching everything from “The Human Centipede” to “There Will Be Blood.” Fantastic Fest became a breeding ground for hardcore acolytes of horror, sci-fi, and other outré forms of storytelling from around the world, cultivating a devout community in the process.
Then, in 2017 — months before the #MeToo movement and the revelations about Harvey Weinstein’s history of sexual assault — Fantastic Fest became one of the first movie-world institutions to face the repercussions of harboring guilty parties and neglecting victim complaints. A year later, Fantastic Fest is underway with new plans to address its previous shortcomings, and eager sold-out crowds, but it’s still grappling with the...
