In most movies, a fight with red-robed doppelgängers to the tune of N.W.A.’s “F— the Police” would be the showstopper. But Jordan Peele’s “Us” has an even better musical trick up its sleeve — its deft dissection of the 1995 Luniz hit “I Got 5 on It.”
“I Got 5 on It” comes from an underrated school of hip-hop that discusses low-stakes and even trivial problems with high-level musicality. The “5” refers to a five-dollar bill kicked in toward the purchase of marijuana. The song basically says, if you want to smoke some of my weed, please kick in some cash. It’s a gripe everyone’s had at some point about weed, gas, or french fries.
But the song remains such an earworm 24 years after its debut because nothing about its music sounds trivial. The music has overtones of hurt and betrayal, and may owe those qualities to its surprising and contentious origin story.

It's been well over a year since Jordan Peele made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed horror flick Get Out, and fans of the Oscar-winning director are hungry for more of his work. Peele has been committed to giving them exactly that - the filmmaker has multiple projects in progress, including a reboot of The Twilight Zone, producing a new HBO series, and a role in Toy Story 4.
The one project we've been on our toes waiting for is Peele's first feature since Get Out, "a new nightmare" simply titled Us. Peele announced the project in May 2018 by dropping the movie poster and release date on Twitter, with the star-studded cast confirmations - Lupita Nyong'o, Elisabeth Moss - following soon after. When Peele finally dropped the terrifying film trailer on Christmas Day 2018, fans were hooked.

Last night, over at the South by Southwest Film Festival, Jordan Peele’s latest movie Us had its first screening. SXSW represents the launching pad for this late March release, which hopes to be as big a critical, cultural, and financial smash as Peele’s debut Get Out turned out to be. Well, at least one part of the equation seems to be taken care of, as the word out of SXSW is that it’s a real winner. I won’t be seeing the flick for another week or two, but judging by the festival word, it’s an early year must see for cinephiles. As a reminder, up until now, the only hints about what this film was about came from the vague plot description. This is that synopsis, via IMDb: “A mother and father take their kids to their beach house, expecting to enjoy time with friends,...

Jordan Peele's second film, Us, is more horrific and ambitious than Get Out and one of the most evocative horror movies in memory.
Sophomore efforts can be difficult for filmmakers who hit it out of the park the first time. And Jordan Peele did not just bat a home run when he wrote and directed Get Out—the pop culture-seizing and box office-smashing horror film that netted Peele a screenplay Oscar and the attention of every type of moviegoer, from genre to prestige—he hit it into a quarter billion-dollar orbit. Whereas other directors in similar situations would go on to resist trying to expand on the themes of their first effort, Peele uses them as a foundation for something far grander and more audacious in Us.
Keeping his promise that the next film would not technically be about race in America, Peele instead has crafted a horror movie...

Regardless of who wins the Super Bowl, Jordan Peele fans scored big as the second trailer for the director’s upcoming horror flick, “Us,” has just been released.
“You know how sometimes things line up?” Lupita Nyong’o’s character asks in the spot. “Coincidences? Since we’ve been up here, they’ve been happening more and more. It’s like there’s this black cloud hanging over us.”
“Us” centers on Adelaide and Gabe Wilson (Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke) as they take their kids to Adelaide’s childhood home in Northern California for the summer. They unwind with their friends (Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker), but Adelaide, still haunted by a past trauma, becomes paranoid that something is about to hurt her family.

Back on Christmas morning, a cinematic gift was left under the tree for film fans. It was, as you might have guessed, the first Trailer for Jordan Peele’s follow up to his Academy Award winning Get Out. This movie, called Us, shows him again making a unique horror flick, one quite possibly filled to the brim with social commentary and satire. Last time around, his directorial debut won him an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Whether or not this one does the same remains to be seen, but it’s undeniable that this is one of the movies to most look forward to during the first part of 2019. You can see the Trailer at the end of this post, but first…let’s talk about it a little bit! Up until now, the only hints about what this film was about came from the vague plot description. There’s still so much that we don’t know about Jordan Peele’s new film Us, but we know that it’s going to be a nightmarish horror thriller. We’ll have a much better idea of what to expect tomorrow when the first trailer for the movie drops.
While we wait for that new trailer, we have a new photo to share with you featuring Lupita Nyong’o protecting her two kids, who are played by Shahadi Wright Joseph and Evan Alex. While talking to Games Radar, Peele explains, “In this scene, our hero family’s vacation home is being invaded by a group of terrifying and shadowy individuals.”
You can get your first look at those “shadowy individuals” in a previously released photo here. The filmmaker went on to say:
“Lupita Nyong’o is the kind of actor who consistently rises to the most extreme stakes, and...
