Eugenie Bouchard is set to play pickleball professionally in 2024, and she has already announced her first tournament of the season.
Only recently, the Canadian announced a surprising move to pickleball, but even despite the switch, she still competed on the Wta Tour and even represented Canada at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
However, one thing is now clear when it comes to her tennis career, and that's the fact that Bouchard won't compete at the 2024 Australian Open. That seemed to be confirmed already when she didn't appear on the entry list, but she still could have received a surprising wild card.
But that won't happen, as at the start of the tournament, Bouchard will be on a completely different continent, competing on the 2024 Carvana Ppa Tour at the Hyundai Masters at Mission Hills Country Club in Palm Springs.

Let’s take a look at the racket specs of Jannik Sinner, and just what is demanded of one of the heaviest hitters on the Atp Tour.
Following the example of Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner endorses the current Head Speed Auxetic. And although this is not his actual racket underneath, Sinner actually does use a version of the Head Speed – based on the Head Speed Graphene Touch from 2015.
Albeit, with a few custom adjustments. With a static weight of 325 grams and a relatively high balance of 33.3cm, Sinner’s rackets appear to be fairly simply customised from the stock Speed MP specs, bringing up the swingweight to a more challenging and professional-friendly 340 kg/cm2 .
The lead weight added to the sides of Sinner’s racket head will, in addition to the significant increase in swingweight, add some much-needed stability to the frame – something the old Graphene Touch Speed rackets lack over the newer,...

In the 1990s, it was common to see pro players and high level amateur players requesting very high string tensions, with most stringing well above 60lbs or even 70lbs, and some crossing the 75 and 80lbs line.
But today, many professional players request the opposite. It’s common to see pro players with tensions well below 50lbs, with some players like John Isner and Jack Sock stringing at an incredibly low 35lbs. So what’s changed?
Put simply, the string material has evolved. In the 1990s, most pro players used Natural Gut or multifilament strings in their rackets, which had great elastic properties, but poor levels of control. While this was less of an issue for competitive tennis in most of the 20th century, mainstream advancements in racket technology during the 1980s made the game more powerful, and the old- fashioned gut strings simply couldn’t keep up.

Ben Shelton was a breath of fresh air in his first full season on the Atp Tour, and he was pumped right from the first ball.
Shelton's rise was sporadic, but it had plenty of learning lessons, which Andy Roddick so perfectly summed up when assessing his 2023 season. Shelton was ranked as low as 96th when he rubberstamped his passport for the first time in his life to play tennis tournaments outside the USA.
With his father as his right-hand man, the season didn't begin on a high note, with two defeats in his first three matches. But a compelling Australian Open in which he reached the quarterfinals was the grandest and most appropriate way possible to announce his name.
As far as introductions go, it is tough to dispute Shelton was the Atp Newcomer of the Year in 2023. Here's why:
Year-End Ranking: 17th
Overall, it was a rollercoaster year for American men's tennis.

John McEnroe has been busy promoting and preparing for his upcoming participation in the 2nd edition of the Pickleball Slam.
It's been less than two years since McEnroe jokingly called pickleball the "worst" sport. In that time span, he has watched it become the fastest-growing sport in the United States. Its acceleration has seen pickleball locations grow by at least 130 new spots every month this year.
According to the 2023 Association of Pickleball Players report, at least 36.5 million people in the USA have played pickleball once in the past 12 months, which represents 14% of the adult population in the country. The fun part is that some retired tennis players have found a different avenue.

Jack Sock and his wife Laura Little have become parents for the first time, announcing the news of their newborn son Brody Bryan Sock on social media.
In a joint post on Instagram, the couple revealed a snippet of baby Brody for the first time sleeping in presumably a playpen. Sock's wife Laura Little is a former Miss North Carolina and have been married since December 2020.
They had announced in July this year that they were expecting a baby boy at some point in December. Little eventually gave birth a month earlier than anticipated from the heartwarming video they shared a few months ago.

If you've been watching this year's Atp Finals, you would easily notice the absence of American players in the eight-man cohort for the year-end championships.
Historically, the Atp Finals have not been a staple for the American men for over two decades. 14-time Grand Slam champion Pete Sampras remains the country's last winner, back in 1999. Former World No. 4 James Blake remains the last player to contest a final, back in 2006.
Taylor Frtiz qualified last year for the first time in his career and was knocked out in the semifinal stage. In spite of being one of the most dominant nations in the Top 50, with as many seven players, not a single one of them earned a ticket for this year's showpiece event.
Fritz looked like the closest player to qualifying again until an abdominal injury at a crucial juncture stopped him in his tracks. He missed the cut-off points by a very small margin.

Carlos Alcaraz has a busy off-season schedule which includes stops in Latin America and the Middle East before he embarks on his trip to Australia for the 2024 season.
The Spaniard has been promoting the upcoming exhibition event in Mexico City where he is scheduled to face American Tommy Paul at the Plaza de Toros Monumental de México, the same venue that held Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud's multi-city tour of Latin America last year.
Tickets are now on sale on the tournament's website at the TennisFest Gnp. Alcaraz's popularity with Spanish-speaking Mexican tennis fans is guaranteed to fill up the world's largest bull ring, commonly known as La Plaza Mexico, which can hold up to 55,000 spectators in one sitting.
Last year marked the first edition of the TennisFest Gnp exhibition tournament where Nadal and Ruud played the first singles match of the event in front of 40,000 exuberant fans that were packed to the rafters.

Sebastian Korda has become the first-ever American to reach the Shanghai Masters semi-final, which is quite a stat.
Plenty of legendary American players have played in the past, but it mostly comes down to the fact that the Shanghai Masters is not a longstanding event. It was played for the first time only in 2009, so the list of great American players is much shorter than the full list of American legends.
Korda bested performances by Andy Roddick and Jack Sock, two really good players, especially the former, who was number one in the world as well as Grand Slam champion in singles, compared to Sock, who has a few Grand Slam doubles trophies.
Both of them only made it to the quarter-finals, Roddick in 2011 and Sock in 2016, which makes Korda's run to the semi-final the best run by an American at the Atp 1000 event in Shanghai. Funnily enough, he faced...

2014 Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard was granted a surprise wild card at the Wta 1000 tournament in Guadalajara.
The Guadalajara Open is the biggest tennis tournament in Mexico with main draw action set to commence next week, September 17th in a singles playing field featuring 64 players. And for the second year in a row, the 29-year-old Bouchard has received a direct entry into the main draw as a wild card.
The tournament has been marred with so many high-profile withdrawals in the past couple of days, with seven of the world's Top-10 players skipping the penultimate Wta 1000 of the season. This hasn't gone down well with tennis fans on social media , and officials face an anxious wait before the draw in the hope there won't be any more withdrawals.
Last year, she defeated American Kayla Day in her opening match but was sent packing by Jelena Ostapenko in the subsequent round in three sets.

Coco Gauff 's motives for playing mixed doubles at this year's US Open only became clear after the conclusion of her match alongside Jack Sock .
Gauff has played eight mixed doubles matches in her young career, including Friday's first-round defeat in what was Sock's final match of his professional tennis career. It wasn't the first time they teamed up as a pair, having done so at last year's Wimbledon where they famously reached the semifinals.
Gauff called it 'a weird dynamic' switching from doubles where she plays predominantly with Jessica Pegula to mixed doubles with Sock. There were certainly moments when Gauff felt the chemistry wasn't quite at par playing alongside the retiring compatriot, but she felt privileged to grace such a momentous occasion in Sock's career .
"Yeah, it was definitely a weird dynamic 'cause there was also a couple times where I would look at him - Was that your ball?...

Former Atp No. 8 Jack Sock confirmed he will retire from tennis after playing this year's US Open before making the switch to Pickleball , where he will play it professionally.
Sock joins fellow American John Isner in hanging up his racket, with both of them announcing that this year's US Open will be their final event on the Atp Tour. Sock's tennis career spans 14 years on the pro circuit, playing his first main draw match at the 2010 US Open.
He is one of the most successful American male players in the last decade, winning four Atp singles titles - the biggest of which was the 2017 Paris Masters, which culminated with a debut appearance at the Atp Finals that same season. Consequently, Sock also broke the world's Top 10 for the first time.

The US Open doubles event is shaping up to be epic, with multiple prominent names in the draw, including John Isner , Sofia Kenin , and many others.
It's not hard to figure out why John Isner is signing up to play doubles at the US Open. The American still has a rather helpful skillset for playing doubles, and this is the final event in his professional tennis career. Why not play singles and doubles and give fans more glimpses of that serve?
The event being on home soil contributed to the decision, as Isner wouldn't have done this if we were in Paris on clay. Isner held a press conference about his participation in the US Open but didn't say anything about playing doubles, so this is a nice surprise for his fans. He did confirm that he is genuinely retiring .

After an injury forced Nick Kyrgios to miss his beloved Citi Open in Washington, it thwarted his dream of a third title at the Atp 500 event.
Nick Kyrgios has unfortunately been sidelined due to injury, breaking hearts of his fans and disrupting his quest for a third victory at the Citi Open in Washington. Ever since clinching his sixth Atp title back in 2019, this event has always held a special place in his heart, so much so, that he publicly pledged his commitment to it "for the rest of his life."
His connection to the Citi Open isn't just a product of fond words. His performances on the Washington courts have often reflected this affection. After two years of event suspension owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tournament returned in 2022, witnessing Kyrgios in his prime form.

If anybody doubted the sincerity of Roger Federer 's and Rafael Nadal 's friendship, they could have seen it in full effect at last year's Laver Cup.
The 2022 Laver Cup will forever be remembered as the last tennis event Roger Federer officially played. It was basically a chance for the Swiss ace to say goodbye to tennis. It was in London, a city that has given him many tennis joys over the years, so it seemed fitting.
He shared the court one final time with his long-time rival and friend Rafael Nadal as they lost to Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe in a doubles match on day one of the event. Federer was quite emotional at the event, unable to fight off the tears.
There was another person who was even more emotional than Federer, and it was Rafael Nadal who was crying his eyes out during the ceremony that was marking Federer's career achievements.

Nick Kyrgios and Jack Sock might be teaming up for the US Open and that would be quite an interesting pairing at the event.

Elon Musk is one of the people that many want an advice from, but it's not often that he comments on tennis .
Without a doubt, tennis is one of the most popular sports in the world. It certainly sits somewhere in the Top 5, behind football and cricket. But there are new racquet sports on the horizon, and one of them is also pickleball .
The sport is similar to tennis according to many, played on a smaller court, and of course, with different rules. Some tennis players, such as Jack Sock, have already tried their hand at pickleball, and the 30-year-old American even managed to win a mixed doubles event .
The legends of the sport, such as Andy Roddick , John McEnroe, and Andre Agassi, have also competed in a pickleball exhibition event , which even topped MLB, NBA, and NHL in viewership numbers .

Jack Sock made his exciting debut in the world of pickleball at the North Carolina Open in Charlotte.
Not very long ago, the American used to be ranked in the Top 10 on the Atp Tour, but recently, he made the decision to give pickleball a try. With a mixture of enthusiasm and adaptation to the rules, Sock proved that his competitive spirit extends beyond the tennis court.
In his first pickleball tournament, Sock had to adjust to a few changes, such as calling his own lines and not having a ball boy at his disposal. This didn't stop him from enjoying the experience and quickly finding his groove, as he triumphed in his first two matches. According to Sock, having another competitive outlet is a positive change.

The 2023 Houston Open is one of the first clay-court events in the Atp calendar and we already know the tournament's draw.
The tournament, which is often referred to as the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship will be played from April 3rd to 9th. Last year, Reilly Opelka triumphed in Houston, but he won't be able to defend his title in 2023 because of an injury that keeps him out of play.
The first-seeded player at the 2023 Houston Open, played at the River Oaks Country Club, is Frances Tiafoe. The top four seeded players have a bye in the first round and so the American will start against Facundo Bagnis or two-time champion Steve Johnson, who won the event in 2017 and 2018.
While Tiafoe can already scout his opponents, the second-seeded Tommy Paul has no clue who will await him in the second round as he'll play against one of the qualifiers.

Jack Sock has become the latest tennis player to embrace pickleball as he will make his professional debut at the North Carolina Open.
The American has been a casual tennis pro for a while playing events sporadically and generally not going too far away from America. Sock isn't close to the level that made him a top 10 player a few years ago and now he'll become the latest player to try himself out in professional pickleball.
There has been a pickleball crazy in the US and many tennis players participated in the sport as it's far more embraced in the States than in Europe. Sock will make his professional debut at the North Carolina Open. He will play mixed doubles with Anna Leigh Waters and men's doubles alongside Tyson McGuffin, however, there is no news about singles.
John Isner poked fun at Sock in the comments asking why he isn't playing singles.
