ABC is passing on its pilots.
The network has passed on Anthony Anderson-fronted Public Defenders and Ellie Kemper-led Keeping It Together, which is a remake of British comedy Motherland, as well as dramas The Hurt Unit, starring Melissa George and Ben McKenzie, and Judgement starring Sex/Life’s Sarah Shahi.
ABC Signature is, however, planning to shop The Hurt Unit to other networks and platforms, while 20th Television will be shopping Public Defenders and Judgement.
The move comes as it still has decisions to make on series Home Economics and The Rookie: Feds as well as The Good Lawyer, which was a backdoor pilot spinoff of The Good Doctor.
Last month, ABC handed a series order to Drew Goddard’s pilot High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson. The project, which is based on the popular French detective series Hip, was the clear front-runner all development season.

If broadcast Pilot Season is any indicator, the Peak TV numbers are in for a rude awakening.
A decade ago, ABC, CBS, The CW, Fox and NBC collectively ordered an eye-popping 98 comedies and dramas during Pilot Season 2013. That figure, the most since THR began tracking overall volume in 2012, is now considered a relic of the past.
With the Covid-19 pandemic effectively wiping out Pilot Season 2020, the networks were forced to lean into the year-round programming strategy many had discussed but hadn’t really executed. Now, the shift is in full swing as the overall volume of pilots ordered across the five networks is likely to hit another low after they collectively picked up 35 comedies and dramas last season.
What’s more, the economic downturn has also prompted broadcasters to be more selective in how many scripts they buy and which among those will actually get made. Network executives — including new presidents at CBS,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Season 1, Episode 4 of The Time Traveler’s Wife.] When it comes to book-to-television adaptations, it’s not unusual for the series to deviate from its source material a bit. That was the case with The Time Traveler’s Wife‘s fourth episode. In the June 5 installment, viewers got a peek into Clare’s (Rose Leslie) life with her friends Charisse (Natasha Lopez) and Gomez (Desmin Borges). But this iteration saw changes in the dynamic between Clare and Charisse, who were never more than besties in the book by Audrey Niffenegger. While it’s clear that Charisse and Gomez are a couple from early on in the episode, brief flashbacks show how they’ve each been more involved with Clare than the other realizes. First, during a two-year period of time when Clare’s waiting for Henry (Theo James) to drop back into her life, she has a one-night stand with Gomez, which she ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Season 1, Episode 4 of The Time Traveler’s Wife.] In the latest chapter of HBO‘s adaptation of The Time Traveler’s Wife, things are getting wacky for Clare’s (Rose Leslie) friends Gomez (Desmin Borges) and Charisse (Natasha Lopez) when she invites her time-traversing love, Henry (Theo James), to dinner. Along with being Clare’s closest confidantes, Gomez and Charisse play a more significant role in her life than just friends as the series explores a deeper connection between her and each of these individuals. In the two years since Clare last saw Henry in the meadow on her 18th birthday, she dipped her toes in other pools, as the episode reveals intimate moments she shared with Gomez and Charisse. It’s an intriguing layer to explore considering Gomez and Charisse’s own relationship as a committed couple and their view of Clare’s mysterious lover who brings some chaos to their loft.

HBO delivers a new incarnation of “The Time Traveler’s Wife” on Sunday night, a theme for a show which delivered a specific set of production challenges that took some clever planning to traverse.
In the latest version of the story, based on the 2003 book by Audrey Niffenegger, Theo James (“Divergent”) plays time traveler Henry, and “Game of Thrones” alum Rose Leslie stars as his wife, Claire.
Henry jumps through time multiple times in every episode — and with different aged Henrys crossing paths with different aged Claires, as well as her housemates Gomez (Desmin Borges) and Charisse (Natasha Lopez), who become their best friends, it made for an unusual filming experience and one that took some getting used to for the actors.

“It’s not a superpower, it’s what’s wrong with me,” Theo James pleads in the trailer for “The Time Traveler’s Wife.”
The six-episode HBO series, premiering in May 2022, stars James as Henry DeTamble, a man plagued with the ability to go back in time. While it is a metaphysical scientific breakthrough, the skill doesn’t bode well for Henry’s marriage to Clare Abshire (Rose Leslie), who is left for a quite literally absentee husband at times.
“He’s just a pile of clothes,” Clare explains during a confessional after Henry has disappeared back in time, out of his own control and leaving the kitchen sink running. “I married a time traveler. It’s complicated,” Clare sums up.
Adapted by former “Doctor Who” showrunner Steven Moffat from Audrey Niffenegger’s bestselling novel, “The Time Traveler’s Wife” is directed by David Nutter. Desmin Borges and Natasha Lopez also co-star.
