- TriviaDavid Nutter has a nickname, "The Pilot Whisperer," which refers to his reputation as being a director of pilot episodes that are generally deemed successful. Until 2011, every show whose pilot he directed was commissioned for at least a full season. Although this ended when CBS decided not to pick up The Doctor, he had by then directed sixteen successful pilots, an unprecedented and still-unmatched streak. He is generally considered one of the best directors currently working in television.
- QuotesWhenever I read scripts, I just ask myself what can I fall in love with and what kind of enduring quality does it have? Maybe it's something that I think is clever, that is entertaining and that the audience can really get involved with and care about. Unless you care about what's happening, nothing else really matters. I read the script: It was funny, dramatic, hit every note on the piano and something I was totally impressed with.
