CBS has renewed the comedy “Ghosts” for Season 4 and the drama “Fire Country” for Season 3.

CBS is looking to scare up more laughs after handing an early Season 4 renewal to supernatural comedy Ghosts.
It is the latest renewal order for the Paramount-owned network, which also handed a third season to Fire Country and gave Justin Hartley series Tracker a second season earlier this month.
Ghosts, which is based on the BBC’s British comedy, has been a success for CBS since launching in 2021. Its third season is averaging over 10M viewers in live 7-day multiplatform viewing, which is marginally up from last year and streaming numbers are up on Paramount+, where the company said it ranked as its number one comedy in February.

After being forced to push the Season 3 premiere date for its hit comedy Ghosts to February 15, 2024 amidst this summer’s dual strikes, CBS is readying for its return to production, star Danielle Pinnock has revealed.
“We start shooting on Saturday. I fly down to Montreal. We’re going back, baby!” exclaimed Pinnock tonight, in conversation with Deadline at the red carpet premiere for her new Amazon MGM holiday film, Candy Cane Lane. “We did a table read — those scripts are good!”
Pinnock expects the show to shoot “only 10 episodes this season,” rather than the 18+ that have been put out in its first two go-rounds, because of both strike-forced delays and the fact that her co-star Sheila Carrasco is expecting her first child. Still, she teased, “those episodes are fierce and the audiences should prepare themselves.”

When the showrunners and stars of CBS’ Ghosts gathered at Comic-Con today to reflect back on the hit sitcom’s first season, they offered a few hints as to what’s to come in Season 2.
Writer-ep Joe Port noted that the first season of the series starring Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar as married couple Samantha and Jay had “a natural destination”—that being the pair “trying to get this house ready” and open their B&b. “Now,” he continued, “it’s going to be open and it’s going to be the story of this young couple and their struggles with this business.”
The CBS comedy is adapted from the British series of the same name, created by Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond for BBC One. It watches as Samantha and Jay learn that their new dream house is inhabited by...

Production on CBS’ new hit comedy “Ghosts” has halted after an individual on the set of the series tested positive for Covid-19. The show, which shoots in Montreal, had been in the middle of producing its season finale when the Covid case forced the premature shutdown, according to sources.
Insiders confirm the shutdown, and tell Variety that production will now resume in January, after the holidays, in order to wrap the finale. CBS declined comment on whether an actor on the show had contracted Covid, citing confidentiality. The shutdown comes as the spread of the Covid-19 Omicron variant has started to impact the entertainment industry: In New York, Broadway has been hit with a wave of cancellations as Covid-19 cases surge, with positive tests forcing cancellation of shows including “Mrs. Doubtfire: The Musical,” “Mj The Musical,” “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical,” “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” “Ain’t Too Proud,...

“Mock if you will,” Christian Evangelist Florence Scanwell (Dorothy Atkinson) chided the bordello workers in Hulu‘s progressive period series Harlots. “There is honor in righteous poverty.” The creative team will be finding new places of employment. Harlots has been cancelled at the streaming service, according to THR, nine months after its third season came to a close.
Based on true stories of real women, Harlots was neither clichéd nor glamorous. It depicted sex work as legitimate. The sex wasn’t gratuitous, it was perfunctory, and there is no judgment of it. The series was written, directed and produced entirely by women. Co-creators Moira Buffini (Jane Eyre) and Alison Newman were Executive Producers alongside Alison Owen, Debra Hayward and Alison Carpenter. Season 3 was written by Buffini, Jane English, Vivienne Harvey and Jessica Ruston, and directed by Robin Sheppard, Chloe Thomas and Debs Paterson, with Pat Tookey-Dickson producing.
Harlots was set in 1763 London.

CBS has picked up three more multi-camera pilots and one single-camera comedy pilot for the 2020-2021 season.
The first hails from writers and executive producers Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, the co-creators of “Will & Grace.” Their CBS pilot is titled “Please Hold for Frankie Wolfe.” Wolfe is described as an unfiltered, irreverent, powerful businesswoman with no personal life. When Frankie’s impossibly fragile and neurotic sister, Tommie, abandons Quincy – an incredibly bright inner-city child who Tommie attempted to foster – Frankie is faced with the choice of taking him in or casting him back out. Universal Television will produce the project.
The next pilot is an untitled comedy from executive producers and writers Corinne Kingsbury, John Francis Daley, and Jonathan Goldstein. Kingsbury most recently created the CW series “In the Dark,” while Daley and Goldstein are best known for writing the screenplay for the blockbuster Marvel film “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for the Season 3, Episode 3 of “Harlots.”]
The Wells family has endured many hardships on “Harlots,” but now that matriarch Margaret Wells (Samantha Morton) has escaped the hangman’s noose, the outlook seemed far less grim. Unfortunately, on Wednesday’s episode, the Wells fortunes take a turn for the worse when eldest daughter Charlotte (Jessica Brown Findlay) dies in a tragic accident.
While promoting a gala affair/boxing match with her partner Lady Fitz (Liv Tyler), Charlotte sneaks off for a tryst with local pimp and tavern owner Isaac Pincher (Alfie Allen). Upset for losing out on a business deal, his brother Hal (Ash Hunter) tracks them down to the stairwell and starts pummeling Isaac. Charlotte tries to stop the fight, but gets accidentally pitched over the balcony railing to her death below.
IndieWire spoke with Brown Findlay about the sudden and shocking twist:
“Within seconds she goes from being full of life to on the edge of death,...

Alex Sawyer (Get Shorty) has been cast in the upcoming third season of period drama series Harlots on Hulu. Set against the backdrop of 18th century Georgian London, Harlots continues to follow the fortunes of the Wells family. The series hails from the creative team of Moira Buffini, Alison Newman, Alison Owen, Debra Hayward and Alison Carpenter. Sawyer will play Jack Lively, the star of North’s boxing-tour. He was a dolly-boy (a child-servant) in a rich man’s house until he was thirteen, acting as a playmate for a white family’s children. Ever since, Jack’s gone from job to job, that is until North (Danny Sapani) spotted his fighting potential. Jack has a deep understanding of society-types, and of how they treat people like him as an outsider. He is highly educated and politically motivated, more likely to respond to racism with an erudite come-back than to resort to his prize-winning fists.

Harlots is heading back to the UK. The period drama, which was originally commissioned by ITV Encore, is moving to Starzplay after the British commercial broadcaster opted not to pick up the second season.
The streaming service, which is available via Amazon Prime Video Channels and Virgin Media, will launch the Monumental Films-produced drama on Thursday 14 February – Valentine’s Day with all eight episodes dropping. Season one joins the subscription service on 18 January.
Harlots was originally a co-production between ITV’s pay-tv network Encore and Hulu but only the U.S. digital platform picked the show up for a second season, which launched on 11 July. It has subsequently been renewed for a third season.
The second season dives deeper into the feuds, betrayals, and carnal connections amongst the characters with Liv Tyler joining as a new series regular.
