Morgan Wallen spent this weekend playing to more than 150,000 people over two shows at the Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee. The gigs were about as close as the country star gets to a homecoming blowout — he grew up in Sneedville, about 90 minutes away — so he marked the occasion with a slew of surprise guests, including Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, and Darius Rucker.
During night one last Friday, Sept. 20, Church took the stage to join Wallen for a duet rendition of “Quittin’ Time,” a track off Wallen’s 2021 smash, Dangerous: The Double Album.

Morgan Wallen’s facing jail time.
In April, authorities arrested Morgan Wallen after his rooftop tantrum endangered people on the street below.
This was not his first incident of bad behavior. However, this time, it may cost him more than some bad press and some business ties.
Despite his legal team’s efforts, Morgan Wallen could end up behind bars.

Miranda Lambert was one of the few who continued to support Morgan Wallen after the n-word scandal almost ruined his career. Now she says he ignores her texts. Keep reading to find out why.
Miranda Lambert Supported Morgan Wallen At Worst Time In His Life
Morgan Wallen’s burgeoning career was almost ruined in 2021 when he was caught on camera using the n-word. The backlash was swift and severe. His music was taken out of rotation from radio stations, his record label put him on pause, and he was banned from some prominent award ceremonies.
However, his fan base continued to support him by buying his music. The “One Night at a Time” singer issued a public apology on Good Morning America. His career has since exploded and he’s actually more popular now that he was before the scandal.

The CMA Awards lit a fire in Beyoncé in 2016. At that year’s ceremony, she took the stage with the Chicks to perform “Daddy Lessons,” the country cut from Lemonade. There was bristling within the audience, the first spark of contention. Online, scandalized viewers torched the appearance. They spewed their misogynoir-laced criticism that the Houston native was corrupting the sanctity of the genre — and the Country Music Association forfeited its chance to address the racist malice running rampant in its comment sections across social platforms. Beyoncé let that fire smolder for nearly a decade.

The 58th Annual Country Music Association Awards nominations were announced on September 9, and two artists from outside the world of country music made news: Post Malone by being nominated four times, and Beyonce by being nominated zero times. So what gives? Why was one genre interloper welcomed into the fold, but not the other? And what does it say about the complexion of country music?

There’s one surprising name missing from the Country Music Association Awards list of 2024 nominees: Beyoncé. The artist’s country and Americana album “Cowboy Carter” did not receive any nominations from the awards organization.
Instead, the most nominated artist of the 2024 CMA Awards is Morgan Wallen, who is nominated for major honors including Entertainer of the Year, Single of the Year and Song of the Year. As for CMA Entertainer of the Year — the awards show’s biggest honor — that battle will be taking place this year between Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen and Lainey Wilson.
Cody Johnson and Chris Stapleton tied for the second most-nominated artists with five nods apiece. They were then followed by Post Malone and Lainey Wilson, who each secured four nominations, as well as Louis Bell, Luke Combs, Charlie Handsome, Hoskins, Jelly Roll, Megan Moroney and Kacey Musgraves, who each secured three nominations.

Morgan Wallen is the leading nominee for the 58th annual CMA Awards, with seven nods. He had some help with that — most notably in the form of his featured duet appearance on Post Malone’s smash “I Had Some Help,” which was nominated in four categories.
Wallen’s seven nominations for the annual kudos from the Country Music Association are followed by five each for Cody Johnson and Chris Stapleton. Just behind that mark, Post Malone’s four nominations landed him in a tie with reigning entertainer of the year Lainey Wilson.
Seven artists or producer-writers picked up three nominations each: singers Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Megan Maroney and Kacey Musgraves, along with Louis Bell, Charlie Handsome and Hoskins, all three of whom co-produced “I Had Some Help” and also are among the credited writers on the tune.

Maren Morris has opened up about an incident in 2021, in which she called out fellow country music star Morgan Wallen for using a racial slur and received dangerous threats against her family as a result.
Morris confronted Wallen for posting a video to Twitter in which he used the N-word. She called the lack of consequences he faced “representative of our town because this isn’t his first ‘scuffle,’ and he just demolished a huge streaming record last month regardless. We all know it wasn’t his first time using that word. We keep them rich and protected at all costs with no recourse.”
In a recent interview on Sophia Bush‘s Work in Progress podcast, Morris explained the repercussions she faced after speaking out, which included death threats to her son, who was one-year-old at the time.

It’s hard to tell how much the recording academy loves Post Malone, but at the very least they seem to like him a lot. He hasn’t actually won an award yet, but he’s regularly nominated in top categories. Now the genre-hopping artist is entering uncharted territory: country music. Will it be his ticket to a win?
Malone has two previous Grammy nominations for Album of the Year: “Beerbongs and Bentleys” in 2019 and “Hollywood’s Bleeding” in 2021. He’s also one of the few artists in history to receive three consecutive noms for Record of the Year: “Rockstar” featuring 21 Savage in 2019, “Sunflower” with Swae Lee in 2020 and “Circles” in 2021. Rounding out his impressive general field track record is a Song of the Year bid for “Circles” in 2021. In all, the eclectic artist has been nominated 10 times, including genre bids in pop and rap categories. Alas, no victories as of yet.

Post Malone made yet another successful genre pivot with his new country album “F-1 Trillion.” The rap-rock-pop star debuted at number-one on the Billboard 200 with 250,000 equivalent album units based on his combined traditional album sales, individual track sales and online streams. It’s also the artist’s first number-one album on the Top Country Albums chart. Read all about this week’s chart here at Billboard.com.
“F-1 Trillion” is a bit of a commercial comeback for Post Malone. While “Hollywood’s Bleeding” launched at number-one with a whopping 489,000 album units in 2019, his 2022 followup “Twelve Carat Toothache” topped out at number-two with 121,000 album units, and his 2023 set “Austin” also peaked at number-two with 113,000 album units. Morgan Wallen has had a meteoric rise to country music superstardom. In addition to everything he has already achieved, he recently got yet another major notch in his belt. So, what do we know about this latest big win for the Whiskey Glasses singer?
Morgan Wallen Is One Of The Most Popular Country Artists Ever
When it comes to the most popular current artists on the country music scene, they don’t get much bigger than Morgan Wallen. He is one of those rare artists who continues to convert listeners to his music that don’t normally have country music in their rotation, and that is one of the best compliments anyone can receive for their art.
Wallen isn’t just getting his flowers from his fanbase. Post Malone thought highly enough of what Morgan Wallen brings to the table that Posty decided to collaborate with Wallen on tracks for his country album.

An Illinois man who threatened to shoot two Kansas City Chiefs players who were guests of Morgan Wallen during his concert at Arrowhead Stadium on Friday night, was arrested and charged with a Class E felony for making a terrorist threat in the second degree, according to Kctv 5.
The man, identified as Aaron Brown of Winchester, Il, was at the concert with his girlfriend when he posted the threat against Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce on Twitter/X.
Police were monitoring threats on social media when they observed Brown’s post. As a result, the start of Wallen’s concert was delayed by 40 minutes as officers attempted to locate and arrest him.
Brown reportedly told officers that the social media post “was a stupid, stupid, stupid mistake.”
Brown was released on Saturday after posting $15,000 in bond.

Country star Darius Rucker believes it’s time to forgive fellow musician Morgan Wallen for his use of a racial slur in 2021.
Rucker, known for his work with Hootie & the Blowfish, expressed his belief that Wallen has grown since the incident. “I think Morgan’s become a better person,” Rucker told the Music Now podcast, citing his long-standing relationship with the younger artist.
The controversy began in February 2021 when a video of Wallen using the N-word was released. The fallout was swift, with radio networks pulling his music and his label suspending him. Award shows also barred Wallen from participation.
Despite these setbacks, Wallen’s career has thrived. His 2023 album One Thing at a Time broke records, and he embarked on a successful tour.
Rucker argued that full forgiveness remains elusive, pointing to Wallen’s continued exclusion from major country music awards.

Darius Rucker says it’s time to forgive Morgan Wallen.
While speaking on the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, the country singer reflected on the backlash Wallen received after he was caught using a racial slur in a 2021 video.
“I think Morgan’s become a better person since that,” Rucker said. “I’ve known Morgan a long time. Since all that happened, Morgan’s tried to really better himself and become a better person and see the world in a much better, better way.”
After the video circulated online, the singer’s recording contract with Big Loud Records was suspended indefinitely at the time. CMT had also announced that they would remove the singer’s appearances from their platforms. Prior to Wallen’s contract suspension, iHeart Media had officially pulled Wallen’s music and content from their stations, as well as SiriusXM and Pandora removing his music from their playlists.

Morgan Wallen has gone more than just radio silent on social media. It appears he deactivated his account. Fans are concerned, but could there be a reasonable explanation?
Recent Arrest Not Affecting Career
Morgan Wallen found himself in the center of a media storm in 2021 after a video surfaced of him using the ‘n-word.’ He was at the height of his fame at the time and spent years clawing his way back to the top.
But just as he reached his former status, he got in trouble again. He was arrested earlier this year for allegedly tossing a chair off the roof of a bar in downtown Nashville. He’s expected back in court in August to face charges of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.

Morgan Wallen’s history of bad behavior caught up to him on Tuesday when the Nashville Metro Council voted 30-3 against the construction of a 20-foot sign advertising “Morgan Wallen’s This Bar” in the city’s downtown district. As The Tennessean reports, council members directedly cited his past use of the N-word and recent incident throwing a chair off the roof of a Nashville bar.
“I don’t want to see a billboard up with the name of a person who’s throwing chairs off of balconies and who is saying racial slurs,” said At-large Council member Delishia Porterfield. District 33 Council member Antoinette Lee added that voting against the proposal might “help folks who are doing these harmful actions think twice.”
