Led Zeppelin started life as a heavy, psychedelic blues band. They eventually evolved to become a well-rounded band worthy of having songs added to the Library of Congress. Yet like other groups from the era, they showed their deference for the musicians who preceded them by using elements of their songs in their own tunes. When the band got caught, guitarist Jimmy Page said singer Robert Plant was the one to blame for Led Zeppelin’s lawsuits.

Led Zeppelin emerged fully formed on their debut album. They won over fans in the United States with their first concerts and made everything sound so effortless, even when they struggled to record songs. Making Led Zeppelin I was the opposite of a struggle, and “You Shook Me” was one of the band’s most unique songs.

Guitarist Jimmy Page lived through a whirlwind in late 1968. He experienced the disintegration of the Yardbirds, the formation of Led Zeppelin, and the recording of the band’s debut album within a few months.

What is considered the best Rolling Stones album? It’s a fair question, and there are plenty to choose from. Would it be one of the classics the band strung together in the 1960s and 1970s? Would it be one of the albums that peaked at No. 2 despite housing incredible songs? Or one of the many compilations stacked with hits (and some of the band’s controversial songs)? Best is subjective, but we know which of the nine Rolling Stones albums to reach No. 1 were the most commercially successful of the group’s records (thanks to some help from Billboard’s meticulous record-keeping).
Note: We used the time spent at No. 1 as the benchmark of success. We broke the ties in the middle of the pack by looking at duration on the charts.

Led Zeppelin won over fans, especially in the United States, early in the band’s career. Still, several musicians hated them, and so did hotel managers. Led Zeppelin’s reputation for mayhem and debauchery wasn’t made up — they frequently took out their pent-up energy on hotel rooms, hallways, lobbies, and kitchens. He had a reputation as a wild one, but drummer John Bonham’s gift to his long-lost aunt proved he had a soft and sentimental side, too.

Bonham played his drums hard with Led Zeppelin. He partied hard, too.
He often dealt with the boredom of life on the road and the adrenaline of playing sold-out concerts with alcohol. And when Bonham overserved himself, mischief often ensued. He once had his nose broken by Led Zeppelin’s tour manager during a confrontation...

Concert attendees in 1970 must have been checking their Led Zeppelin tickets when they arrived at a concert being performed by the Nobs. The audience had not made a mistake, as it was the same band. However, on Feb. 28, 1970, Led Zeppelin had to change their name to the Nobs for a concert in Copenhagen, Denmark, to avoid a lawsuit.
Led Zeppelin was under threat of being sued Robert Plant and Jimmy Page | Jorgen Angel/Redferns
In early 1970, Led Zeppelin was on a tour of Europe. The band had an upcoming concert scheduled in Copenhagen, but the show hit a snag due to its name. Frau Eva Von Zeppelin, a descendant of Count Ferdinand Von Zeppelin, the inventor of the Zeppelin airships, threatened to sue the band over making money off her family name without their permission.
The band had already dealt with Eva in 1969 when they appeared on a Danish television show.

You won’t find many pictures of Jimmy Page without a guitar in his hands. That makes sense. He quit his lucrative gig as a session guitarist before he joined the Yardbirds and founded Led Zeppelin. His talents and international fame led to hundreds of photos of Page holding guitars he made famous. You won’t find one of Page playing a Gibson Flying V, even though it makes a memorable appearance on “You Shook Me” from Led Zeppelin I.
