Believe it or not, it's been 30 years since Paul Rudd first charmed audiences on screens with his earliest acting roles. The star of Marvel's "Ant-Man" trilogy had his first big break with "Clueless" in 1995, but he didn't hit his comedic stride until he paired up with frequent collaborator Judd Apatow. Throughout the aughts, the two worked together on a series of movies that were funny and frank about dating, family, and friendship, including "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," "This is 40," and "Knocked Up."
In a new retrospective for GQ, Rudd dissects his career so far, sharing behind-the-scenes details about roles including his turn as Pete in the Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl-led comedy "Knocked Up." Although Rudd played the husband of Leslie Mann's character, making him an Apatow-like avatar since Mann is married to the writer-director in real life, the actor says the film actually pulled some details from his own marriage: Namely,...

How do you take a guide that details the nitty-gritty details of pregnancy, the unfathomable changes that a woman's body and mind can go through during those 40ish weeks, and turn it into a feature film? Well, to begin, you pack the cast with stars, find a top-notch prosthetics team and do not touch that title. What to Expect When You're Expecting—based on Heidi Murkoff's everything-you-need-to-know book of the same name that since its first publication in 1984 has sold at least 42 million copies—came out 10 years ago. In the vein of the star-studded He's Just Not That Into You, which was also inspired by a zeitgeist-commanding...

With the American electoral race making for ever more dramatic television, it's fitting that the silver screen should turn once again toward presidents for its drama. Last week Roger Michell's Hyde Park on Hudson took its UK bow at the BFI London film festival, with Bill Murray impressing with his portrayal of a womanising yet altruistic Franklin D Roosevelt. In the coming months we shall see Daniel Day-Lewis take the eponymous role in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, which is already being tipped as a serious awards contender. In the meantime, on DVD, we have an altogether more frivolous take on America's leaders in Timur Bekmambetov's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012, Fox, 15), in which Benjamin Walker plays the 16th president as an avenging angel who hates...

The dark sunglasses were on, but the Men in Black suffered inside as cinemagoers stayed outside; and What to Expect When You're Expecting also landed below expectations
The disappointment #1
When Sony UK opted to release Men in Black 3 in the UK on the same day as in the Us – Memorial Day weekend – it always knew it was taking a risk with the weather. But by this point of the year, you'd assume that sunshine wouldn't have that devastating an impact on admissions – cinemagoers should already have had plenty of opportunities to enjoy their gardens, roof terraces and local parks. In late May, warm temperatures shouldn't be too much of a novelty. The distributor can count itself unlucky that Men in Black 3 landed amid the hottest weather of the year so far, following the rainiest April on record and a distinctly patchy May. Matinees, in particular, and early evening...

It might be a sign that the creative well has truly run dry now that Hollywood has begun adapting self-help books into feature films. Following the likes of He’s Just Not That Into You and the recent Us release Think Like A Man, we have What to Expect When You’re Expecting, adapted from Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel’s tome about the travails of pregnancy. Though it is consistently, enthusiastically performed by its sizable ensemble cast, this is another dramedy that feels overstuffed and pointlessly formatted as an interlinking anthology of tales.
An opening scene, which depicts weight-loss guru Jules (Cameron Diaz) competing in a reality TV dance show, suggests a film keen to flaunt its self-awareness about pop culture’s tragic, vapid potential. That the film itself, with its maudlin soap opera storylines and focus on ho-hum, only vaguely cheeky humour, is itself...

London — The stars of the romantic comedy "What to Expect When You're Expecting" had plenty of praise for each other – and a warning about making out on the hood of a car – during the film's British premiere in London on Tuesday.
Cameron Diaz, Chace Crawford and Matthew Morrison, Anna Kendrick and Rodrigo Santoro were among the actors who walked the red carpet at the British Film Institute's IMAX theater.
The film – inspired by the bestselling book by Heidi Murkoff, and also featuring Jennifer Lopez, Dennis Quaid, Cheryl Cole and Chris Rock – looks at love through the eyes of five interconnected couples as they experience pregnancy and childbirth.
Kendrick and Crawford were one of the couples with some steamy moments in the film. But the reality wasn't quite that great, Kendrick said.

Actress Anna Kendrick was left feeling queasy on the set of What To Expect When you're Expecting when the creator of the story dished out intimate details about pregnancy.
The new parenthood movie is based on a best-selling guide by Heidi Murkoff and the writer looked on as some scenes of the new film were shot.
But Kendrick was far from comfortable with the topic of conversation when the cameras stopped rolling.
Speaking on BBC Breakfast, she says, "Heidi who wrote the book was there sometimes. You can't really have a conversation with her without finding out something you just didn't want to know about pregnancy.
"Some people are fine with that and I find myself going a little green when I hear about some of the things."...

What to Expect When You’re Expecting has been treated with a bit of skepticism, and rightfully so. Kirk Jones’s fourth feature film is based on a hugely popular book, has an all-star ensemble cast reminiscent of last year’s floppy New Year’s Eve), and, perhaps most dire, stars Jennifer Lopez. However, J-Lo or no, What to Expect is as hilarious as it claims to be. With a brilliant script that embraces and challenges the philosophies of the original book by Heidi Murkoff, What To Expect serves up an adult-sized sippy cup full of good fun, good drama, and—most importantly—dirty pregnancy jokes....

I’m as susceptible as anyone to watching highly attractive people onscreen, which this movie has in abundance, but it took time for What to Expect When You’re Expecting to win me over. I found some of its multiple storylines annoying and hopelessly contrived, at first; it’s only toward the end, when the film draws from real life, that it finds its heart and becomes relatable for anyone who has been through pregnancy or parenthood. (The movie was “inspired by” Heidi Murkoff’s best-selling non-fiction book of the same name.) Cameron Diaz plays a TV fitness guru who’s “over 35” and determined not to let pregnancy slow her down, in...

Pregnancy and childbirth are nothing new. In fact, there are few things less new than humans reproducing. It’s been done before. But Kirk Jones’ What to Expect When You’re Expecting accurately captures the inherent selfishness of expecting parents, and their individual “journeys” to the delivery room (and beyond). Unfortunately, even when gifted with a large, mostly eager cast, Jones is also saddled with a script from Shauna Cross and Heather Hach (working off of Heidi Murkoff‘s guidebook of the same name) that is deeply uninterested in providing much variety in their work. The effect is simple one – the film itself is deeply uninteresting. While What to Expect continually reminds its viewers that pregnancy and childbirth are miracles, unique and thrilling gifts, Cross and Hach have concocted one of the most bland, basic, and unadventurous scripts in recent memory. Like Garry Marshall’s rancid multi-story romantic comedies, Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve...

Here's what to expect from "What to Expect When You're Expecting": forced farcical humor, ineptly executed dramatic twists, chemistry-free romantic pairings and absolutely zero resemblance to reality. There's nothing to say that turning Heidi Murkoff's enduringly popular — if frequently criticized — nonfiction pregnancy guide into light escapist entertainment is fundamentally misguided, but "What to Expect" doesn't offer much evidence that it's a particularly good idea either. Very much in the mold of insipid hits "He's Just Not That Into You" and "Valentine's Day," "Expecting" assumes that cramming a bunch of famous (or almost famous) faces into a hodgepodge of loosely...
