Prince Louis made two big public appearances while celebrating Christmas with the rest of the Royal Family this year, and he did so wearing something that he has rarely been seen in up to this point – pants.
The five-year-old son of Prince William and Princess Catherine (aka Kate Middleton) joined his older brother Prince George, 10, and sister Princess Charlotte, 5, at his mom’s annual Christmas Carol concert for this first time at the start of the month.
He then attended his second Christmas Day Service at Sandringham with the rest of his family.
Both times, he wore a double-breasted peacoat with pants. This marks some of the first times that the young royal has been seen in public wearing anything but shorts, and the change has a deeper meaning than you might think.

Royals are known to be very traditional in many ways, including how they dress. It is common to see royals dress conservatively and avoid clothes that are too flashy.
Royal adults also typically do not wear shorts. Some onlookers might wonder: Are there rules forbidding them from wearing shorts in public?
Royal boys often wear shorts
One group of royals who wear shorts pretty often are the royal children — more specifically, royal boys. For example, Prince George and Prince Louis have worn shorts to many events with the family, even occasionally in the wintertime. This is simply a tradition among the British upper class.
“It’s a very English thing to dress a young boy in shorts,” etiquette expert William Hanson told Harper’s Bazaar in 2018. “Trousers are for older boys and men, whereas shorts on young boys is one of those silent class markers that we have in England.

We usually think of Summer as shorts season, but for Prince George of Cambridge, shorts season is all year round. Just like many of the royal customs that seem bizarre to us normal folk, shorts are not a fashion choice for George, but a rule. It's tradition for young royals to be dressed formally in public, and young boys are often dressed in shorts as a symbol of class, which is why we can always expect to see the 5-year-old prince sporting a pair, whether he's playing outside or attending the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony.
Of course, the internet collectively lost its damn mind when George arrived at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding in May 2018 wearing long pants in public for the first time ever. Trousers on a young boy may be considered "suburban" (as etiquette expert William Hanson told Harper's Bazaar), but as boys from the...

Royals, they're just like us! Sometimes, that is. Newlyweds Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just proved how relatable they are when they recently rode the train on their recent visit to Britain's Loughborough University. We bet you don't feel as bad about your morning commute now! Lucky for us, one social media user captured Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, holding hands while walking to the platform in a very crowded train station. Seriously, how much more normal could the Duke and Duchess of Sussex get? The duo attended the Coach Core Awards about 100 miles north of London on Monday, Sept. 24, where they met with honorees from the program that encourages young people to become coaches and atheletes. Meghan had fans laughing out loud when she took part in the passing drill wearing a fancy outfit and heels rather than sneakers. Wait, what?! Meghan Markle stepped out for her very first solo royal event on Tuesday, Sept. 25 but it wasn't her chic Givenchy dress or newly straightened hair that got royal fans talking. Instead, the Duchess of Sussex shut her own car door when she arrived at the Royal Academy of Art and, frankly, the internet freaked out about her unprecedented move. After getting out of the backseat of the navy blue vehicle that brought her to the event and greeting her host with a handshake, Meghan, 37, casually closed the open car door behind her before heading inside. The moment — perfectly captured in a video taken by People's chief foreign correspondent Simon Perry — quickly went viral online with many people praising Prince Harry's wife for acting so normal despite being a royal. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) "First time I’ve seen an on-duty Princess shut her own car door…" one person commented via Twitter.

Things are getting ugly! Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle, hasn't been able to keep his mouth shut in a plethora of interviews since he missed the royal wedding in May, and the royal family has been ready for some damage control. Specifically, Queen Elizabeth, who has allegedly been super sympathetic to Meghan throughout this entire unfortunate situation. "What may surprise some is just how supportive Her Majesty has been during the problems Meghan has faced with her family," an insider shared with Us Weekly in a new interview. "Meghan is in a tough place, and the queen knows it’s completely out of Meghan’s hands. She has only sympathy for what’s been a difficult and distressing situation for her." (Photo Credit: Getty Images) The source added, "While Meghan and the queen come from two very different backgrounds and generations, there’s a warmth between the two that’s genuine and loving.

So stunning! Meghan Markle married Prince Harry on Saturday, May 19 at the royal wedding of the century, and everyone still can't stop talking about how beautiful she looked for the special event three months later. But there was one thing in particular that no one can get over — and that's her stunning wedding ring made of Welsh gold. In fact, the piece of jewelry increased the demand for Welsh gold. Clogau, a family-owned business that specializes in creating jewelry from North Wales, said that Meghan's ring has increased recognition for the rare material, and now they are opening four more stores all over England in October because of it. "We get a lot of exposure when there is a royal wedding," the Clogau spokeswoman said, according to People. "It was the same when William and Kate got married. It definitely gives business a boost. Whenever the public becomes aware of...

Not only is Prince George the future King of England — he's also a trendsetter! The British magazine Tatler just named the five-year-old royal one of "Britain’s Best Dressed" for 2018. You go, George! According to The Evening Standard, the publication praised Kate Middleton and Prince William's son for his "Christoper Robin chic," which, of course, refers to the shorts, long socks, and jumpers he so often wears. Such a fashionisto! (Photo Credit: Getty Images) But believe it or not, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge dress George in only shorts for an interesting reason. "It's a very English thing to dress a young boy in shorts," William Hanson once told Harper's Bazaar. Many eagle-eyed royal fans have noticed that Kate Middleton and Prince William seem to only dress their eldest son, Prince George, in shorts for official outings. So, why is George never wearing pants? According to an etiquette expert, it's just a part of royal fashion history! "It's a very English thing to dress a young boy in shorts," William Hanson once told Harper's Bazaar. "Trousers are for older boys and men, whereas shorts on young boys is one of those silent class markers that we have in England." (Photo Credit: Getty Images) "Although times are (slowly) changing, a pair of trousers on a young boy is considered quite middle class — quite suburban," he continued. "And no self-respecting aristocrat or royal would want to be considered suburban. Even the Duchess of Cambridge." According to Hanson, we'll be seeing George in shorts for many years to come. He's only 4 years old, yet Prince George's fashion choices have been more predictable than any other royal . . . until this past weekend at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding. For the nuptials of his uncle and new gorgeous aunt, the young royal was seen wearing long pants in public for the first time ever. Yes, first time ever. It's one of the royal family's most adhered-to fashion rules - young boys dress in shorts as a symbol of class - but the wedding was an obvious exception.

Did you catch this? Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding invitations were recently sent out on Thursday, March 22 and eagle-eyed royal fans have just noticed something very interesting about the invites. Surprisingly, the card's text actually includes a subtle nod to Meghan's first marriage to Trevor Engelson and makes reference to her being a divorcée. On the traditional invitations, Meghan is referred to as "Ms. Meghan Markle," while Kate Middleton was previously referred to as "Miss Catherine Middleton" on the invites for her 2011 royal wedding to Prince William. The Daily Mail's etiquette expert William Hanson explained that while etiquette dictates that Ms. is the correct way to refer to a divorced woman, the royal household has "never before" acknowledged the [prefix]. A post shared by Kensington Palace (@kensingtonroyal) on Mar 22, 2018 at 10:46am Pdt "The royal household, in particular, [Queen Elizabeth], has never before acknowledged the honorific Ms. — regardless of whether...

Have you ever noticed this about Prince William? Eagle-eyed royal fans have recently pointed out that the 35-year-old Duke of Cambridge interestingly doesn't wear a wedding ring. Fortunately, it seems that William's choice to not wear a wedding band doesn't have anything to do with a lack of love for his stunning wife, Kate Middleton. It actually just came down to "personal preference." Kate and William in March 2015. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) "It was something the couple discussed but Prince William isn’t one for jewelry," a Kensington Palace spokesperson once revealed. "He doesn’t even wear a signet ring — and decided he didn’t want to." In October 2010, William proposed to Kate, 36, during a romantic getaway to Kenya. At the time, he presented her with his late mother Princess Diana's iconic sapphire and diamond engagement ring. Just more than a year later, William and Kate tied the knot...

On Monday night, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge watched the Cleveland Cavaliers square off against the Brooklyn Nets in NYC, but everyone was more focused on their meeting with Beyoncé and Jay Z and, later, LeBron James's "protocol breach" when he met the couple after the game to take pictures and hand out gifts. The offending action? LeBron was photographed putting his arm around Kate's shoulder while the group leaned together to pose for photographs. While the action may have seemed completely innocent to most, royal etiquette experts know that people are strongly discouraged from touching any member of the royal family aside from a handshake (and, even then, that's only after they've offered their hand first). However, there is no strict rule on how to behave around the royal family; it's merely a suggestion. Naturally, etiquette sticklers were a little upset by LeBron's shoulder touch, with author...
