Deadline reports that frequently photographed person and actually really good dance-popper Sky Ferreira has joined Lords Of Chaos, an adaptation of Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind’s non-fiction account of Norway’s early ‘90s black metal scene, co-produced by Vice films. The project, which was initially announced last year, will reportedly focus on the 1993 murder of Mayhem guitarist Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth at the hands of Varg Vikernes, better known as the black metal one-man band Burzum.
The film will be directed by music video veteran Jonas Åkerlund, who, once upon a time, was the original drummer for the pioneering Swedish first-wave black metal band Bathory. (He also directed Spun, which isn’t very good, but you can’t have everything.) Jack Kilmer and Brooklyn’s Emory Cohen have also recently joined the cast, which includes Rory Culkin. The sordid history of black metal has long fascinated headbangers and outsiders alike. More than just a lo-fi genre of extreme music, it was thought of by its ardent practitioners as a movement — and, like most movements founded upon ill-advised and/or xenophobic ideals, it eventually turned violent. Vice Films, Insurgent Media and 20th Century Fox are bringing black metal’s most infamous story to the screen with “Lords of Chaos,” an adaptation of the book by Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind.

Filmmaker Jonas Åkerlund – whose credits include Spun, Horseman and music videos for Madonna, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera and Metallica – has signed on to direct Lords of Chaos, a film that will chronicle the wave of violence and church burnings that swept Norway in the early Nineties as the country's black-metal bands got their footing. The film will star Rory Culkin (Scream 4, Signs) and Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class), according to Variety.

In development since at least 2009, alleged real-life story Lords Of Chaos is now back on a faster track thanks to Ridley Scott’s Scott Free company. He has Small Apartments' Jonas Akerlund preparing to direct Caleb Landry Jones and Rory Culkin in a tale of black metal, madness and death.Described this time as based on real events, the new script, which Akerlund co-wrote with Dennis Magnusson, is once again drawing from Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind’s eponymous book which charts the wildly changing fortunes of 17-year-old Øystein Aarseth, who was determined to escape his traditional upbringing in 1980s Oslo. He began playing Norwegian black metal under the name Euronymous with his band Mayhem and drummed up publicity by putting on shocking stunts. But things quickly spiral out of control and his contact with Varg Vikernes, Aka 'The Count', of one-man-band Burzum led to a tragic turn of events.

Jonah Lehrer addressed his plagiarism scandal in a speech at a Knight Foundation seminar on Tuesday, blaming his journalistic transgressions on personal arrogance and hunger for attention. Lehrer was forced to resign from the New Yorker and Wired magazine last July after reporter Michael Moynihan, writing for Tablet Magazine, revealed that Lehrer fabricated Bob Dylan quotes in his bestseller, "Imagine: How Creativity Works." The exposé prompted editors at both publications to review Lehrer's work and they revealed he had plagiarized other writers and recycled his own, previously published work. "Imagine," labeled as nonfiction,...

Following revelations earlier today that New Yorker writer Jonah Lehrer fabricated quotes he attributed to Bob Dylan in his recent book Imagine: How Creativity Works, publisher Houghton Mifflin has stopped selling the book. The online magazine Tablet posted a story this morning titled "Jonah Lehrer’s Deceptions: The celebrated journalist fabricated Bob Dylan quotes in his new book, Imagine: How Creativity Works." Lehrer acknowledged the accuracy of the story in a statement to The New York Times. "Three weeks ago, I received an email from journalist Michael Moynihan asking about Bob Dylan quotes in my book ‘Imagine,’ ” Mr.

Here's a sad and eye-opening article about a Shanghai fake-marriage market in which gay men and lesbians choose opposite sex partners to marry in order to placate their families. Barbra Streisand wants to, um, clarify her remarks about not wanting to appear on Glee: "When asked if I would ever appear on Glee, I should have said, ‘You never know.’ It was wrong to say, ‘Not if I can help it.’ What I meant was that I’ve been overwhelmed preparing for my performance on MusiCares, the Grammys, recording a new album, and starting a new movie. So I couldn’t take on any more work, and besides that, I wasn’t asked.” Below you can see Bryan Safi play wingman for his Infomania co-hort Ben Hoffman. One of the most frequently used short-hand criticisms of Glenn Beck is that he's nothing but a crazy conspiracy theorist scaring his viewers needlessly. This criticism heated up considerably in the past week as Beck made connections between the uprising in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood, and his usual enemies of Marxists attempting to create a One World Order. An article on Gawker entitled "The Right-Wing Nut's Guide to Egypt" used him as a poster boy. Reason's Michael Moynihan called that episode "the dumbest thing ever broadcast on (non-cable access) television." On Beck's own network, The Daily Beasts' Michelle Goldberg called his notions "lunatic theories" on Fox & Friends. Beck played that clip on today's show and chuckled and promised viewers they'd "feel bad" for Goldberg by the end of the show. But, if he really wanted to hit back at these accusations, Beck should stop trying to prove his theories and start offering solutions.
