1 | Couldn’t Bill Maher have gotten literally anyone else to introduce his Live From D.C. stand-up special, instead of subjecting us to Keith Olbermann and Michael Moore’s clunky commentary?
2 | On a scale of 1-to-“Blink,” was Doctor Who‘s “Listen” episode the sci-fi series’ best installment in years?

Annop Desai made it to the seventh week on last year’s American Idol and the 23 year old is now preparing to release his debut album.
The record titled “All is Fair” will hit the shelves on May 4 and the song above “My Name” will be his first single.
“It’s a pop record, but definitely influenced by a Bollywood feel,” Desai told People.
“‘My Name’ has a double meaning. On one hand, it’s a response to kids that used to make fun of my name when I was little. I wanted my first contribution to be something that said, ‘Hey, my name is now cool, not something to be ashamed of.’”
“It’s also about false bravado. Each song on the All is Fair album describes a mindset or a time in my life. ‘My Name’ is about going to a club and trying to act like a big deal.

"(I Haven't Been Able to Get No) Satisfaction" from most of the current crop of American Idol finalists over the past three weeks. And though I'm not sure tonight's telecast turned that trend on its head, at least the bulk of the dozen performances didn't use the pages of the Rolling Stones songbook to line the spattered birdcage that season 9 has been. [Warning: Spoilers Ahead, west-coast Idoloonies!] What we saw happening tonight was a tightening of the pack, a heating up of the raging battle for fifth through tenth place, as singers from Casey James to Lacey Brown to Paige Miles to Lee Dewyze gave a'iight-to-decent performances.

Michael Lynche has reportedly been cut from the final 24 American Idol contestants, after his dad gave an interview to a local newspaper.
Michael made it through the Orlando round of auditions and on past the Hollywood stage, but his dad told The St. Petersburg Times, that he had made the top 24, violating AI rules.
If Lynche’s disqualification is true, it is the second year running that a finalist has been cut from the lineup. Last year, Joanna Pacitti, was sent off after making the top 36 when producers said it had been determined that she “is ineligible to continue in the competition.” She was then replaced by Felicia Barton.

Matt must be one of the first American Idol contestants who admitted to his criminal past, before he got to the Hollywood stage of the competition.
Matt got arrested at age 15 for robbing a bank and spent the next four years in jail, which is kind of badass, but the boy can sing.
Matt gave an emotional performance of Ray Lamontagne’s “Trouble.”
Simon said, “It almost feels like you could have written that song. That’s how believable it was.”
“You’re so genuine, dude,” Randy agreed. “That’s what it’s about.”
Unanimous decision to send him to Hollywood! Yay!

8:06 pm - What’s the worst part about being an “Idol” finalist? Having to sing songs about mountains and hurricanes or being forced to wear all white on the finale? At least Adam’s wearing space boots.
8:06 pm - Mikalah Gordon is in Conway, Arkansas. This is the first time they’ve seen a real live drag queen. It’s a night of firsts!!
8:07 pm - Carly Smithson is in San Diego.

Following the double eviction of Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez last week, eleven contestants battled it out in the second week of live shows. Having already sung in front of Grammy winner Randy Travis, the wannabe star's performed classic country songs - Simon Cowell's favourite genre! Here's what the judges had to say:
Michael Sarver - 'Ain't Goin' Down ('Til the Sun Comes Up)' Randy: "It was a cool song choice, it showed a fun side to you. I don't think it brought out different things in your vocal capabilities. I love the song, but I don't know." Kara: "We got to see a lot of your personality but it's the big notes that I missed from you this week. It's impressive you can remember all those words, I couldn't do that!" Paula: "It's a great Garth Brooks song and it looked like you had (more)...

Not long after being trimmed from American Idol's Top 13, Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez came by the TVGuide.com offices to reflect on their admittedly brief experience on America's No. 1 TV program.
Among the topics we covered:
• If Jasmine had to do it all over again, would she still sing "I'll be There"?• What was Jorge's actual first pick from the Michael Jackson catalogue?• Are the sequestered Idol contenders aware of the "scandals" (e.g. XXX-rated 800-numbers) going on in the "outside" world?• Does the Judges' Save element double the devastation for a departing singer? Plus: Jasmine's message to whoever winds up getting saved.• What's next for each of the young castoffs? See what each had to say, after the jump.

Tuesday (March 17) night's "American Idol" finds the Top 11 singing songs performed by members of The Grand Ole Opry, a needless and barely clarified variation on what could otherwise just be called "Country Night." Alas, we'll never know what Jorge Nunez and Jasmine Murray would have done under the tutelage of Randy Travis, nor will we know what anybody would do under the tutelage of Macho Man Randy Savage (guest mentor, I'm assuming, for "Songs of WrestleMania Night"). American Idol reject Jasmine Murray has claimed that she will "continue singing" after leaving the show. Murray, 16, exited the singing contest in the first week alongside Jorge Nunez. However, the high school student insisted that the early elimination hadn't stopped her dream of becoming a full-time performer. "I did the best I could," she told Entertainment Weekly. This week there was a lot of twists during American Idol and no one was more surprised than the contestants when they found out two were being sent packing. The night was broken up by two killer performances, one from Kanye West and the other from former American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson. In good old Idol fashion, each person learned their fate after having to wait through a million painful commercials. Eleven contestants were lucky on Wednesday night, however two very talented and special Idols were sent home after only a short period of time. PopStar was lucky enough to speak with Jorge Nunez and Jasmine Murray, the two contestants voted off the first week of American Idol. We must say that they impressed us very much and showed such appreciation for the fans. Both Idols spoke with such maturity and had such nice things to say about Simon Cowell,...

Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nuñez tell "The Insider" what it feels like to be the first contestants from the Top 13 on this season's "American Idol" to be sent home -- and they reveal what their plans are after "Idol." "Well, actually, I'm still wondering why is it that I'm so happy," Nuñez tells us. "…What I thought was, you know, I did my best. I worked really hard, and I did something that not everyone does." The 20-year-old contestant from Puerto Rico tells "The Insider" he plans to finish college, saying he has just one semester left to be finished with his degree. Sixteen-year-old Jasmine Murray tells us that being in the Top 13 of "American Idol" solidified her decision to pursue a career in music. "American Idol" had people questioning when on Tuesday, March 10 they announced that a new format will be used in this eight season. Apparently the judges will get more say on the elimination round, meaning they have the power to save the bottom vote if they feel like he or she deserves it.

On Wednesday night’s “Idol” results show, two contestants were ousted from the Top 13, and host Ryan Seacrest introduced a new rule that could have a dramatic impact on this season. Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez were eliminated -- but in a new twist, they both received a chance to convince the judges into letting them stay. At the top of the hour, Secreast introduced a new rule known as the Judges’ Save, which allows the judges to rescue one contestant from elimination up until the Top 5. The judges’ vote must be unanimous, and they can only save one singer during the season. After learning she didn't receive enough viewer votes to stick around, Jasmine was first to try singing her way into the judges’ good graces, performing “Just Call My Name” (I’ll Be There). “Jasmine, we discussed it,” Randy Jackson told her after the song. “Sorry, baby, you’re headed home.

The three judges were confused and could not really leave out one more contestant whom they believe to be worthy of another chance. Instead of picking up three contestants, to finish the top 12 finalists of the show, the judges choose 4 American Idol wild card winners who made it to the finals' top 13. The format was broken in order to give another chance to a deserving singer, said the judges.

The "American Idol" final Top 12 + 1 have been revealed. Instead of the usual dozen, the hit Fox reality competition show surprises the hopefuls and the viewers of their decision to add one more in the next round.
After the third batch of three contestants have been added for the Top 12 on Wednesday, the judges immediately each gave two of their choices to compete for a spot via Wild Card.
On Thursday, 16-year-old Jasmine Murray and 22-year-old Megan Joy Corkrey entered the magic 12 round, making way for one more place for the other contestants to hope for.
Host Ryan Seacrest called Anoop Desai and Matt Giraud to the stage, and inform the latter that he has just earned himself another week at the show. The announcement didn't please Anoop's growing fans.

They join Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, Alexis Grace, Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert, Scott MacIntyre, Jorge Nuñez, Lil Rounds and Michael Sarver in the final stretch of the competition. The Wild Card round is on, finalists of "American Idol" that got eliminated in the Top 36 round are competing for a place in the Top 12. The four judges determine who deserve a stool, based on their March 5 performance. At the end of the show, results are read, four advance to the next round, making it a Top 13 instead of Top 12.
First singing on the night was Paula Abdul's pick Jesse Langseth who brought up Rufus and Chaka Khan's "Tell Me Something Good". Paula sticks to her, while the others thought it was mediocre. Matt Giraud gave his shot, singing Jackson Five's "Who's Loving You". Paula saw it fit to him and Simon Cowell called it a "billion times better" than the previous performance.
Megan Corkrey sang "The Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" by KT Tunstall. Simon praised her to be current and Kara DioGuardi blatantly said that...

"American Idol" went wild Thursday night as three of the eight wild-card hopefuls made it into the Top 12 -- but in a shocking, last-minute turn of events, the judges allowed a fourth contestant through. Jasmine Murray, Megan Corkrey and Matt Giraud became the final three singers to get the judges' blessing -- that is, until Simon Cowell told Anoop Desai right before the show went off the air: "We decided recently we’re going to make this a Top 13." So, this season it will be Jasmine, Megan, Matt and Anoop joining Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre, Jorge Nuñez, Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver, Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert in the Top 13. Watch as they begin their battle to become the next singing sensation next Tuesday at 8 p.m. on Fox! During Thursday night’s show, the eight wild-carders each sang for the judges. Jesse Langseth went first, singing...

Our greatest fear has come true: The squealing, overemotional hopeful that is Puerto Rico's Tatiana Nicole Del Toro landed one of the eight coveted spots in American Idol's Wild Card round tonight. What is Idol thinking?! Sure, some people would argue that beneath the theatrics Tatiana has a somewhat decent voice, but we are just not those people. Simply put, it's an outrage. (Outrage, we say!) We do wholeheartedly agree with the choices of Salt Lake City's tattooed blondie Megan Joy Corkrey, Jesse Langseth ("Bette Davis Eyes") and 16-year-old Jasmine Murray, but we're on the fence about the other four contenders, Matt Giraud (the one who didn't exactly do Coldplay justice), Von Smith...

On Wednesday night's "Idol," another trio of contestants clawed their way into the Top 12 -- and the judges gave eight more "wild card" hopefuls the chance to scrap it out for the remaining three spots! Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre and Jorge Nuñez were the trio of successful singers from Group No. 3 to make it into the Top 12, joining Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver, Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. "This is great, thank you!" exclaimed Lil Rounds, who sang Mary J. Blige's "Be Without You." Judge Kara DioGuardi predicted that viewers can expect "just ridiculous vocals every single week" from Lil. Scott MacIntyre, the visually impaired inspiration who crooned Bruce Hornsby's "Mandolin Rain," was second of the night to advance. "I'm just so blessed to be here. I'm having the time of my life," he said. "It feels like a dream come true." Randy Jackson gave Scott his vote of confidence,...

The next set of singers admitted to the Top 12 rounds of "American Idol" is read live on Wednesday, March 4. Along with the third batch, the judges will make the selection of eight people from the Top 36 that don't make it to the next round by vote. These 8 will proceed to the Wild Card round and sing on Thursday, March 5 for their last shot. The judges will fill in the three remaining spots with their choices.
First result is brought rather quick and practical. Lil Rounds, who stood among the crowd on the performance night, is asked to stand up and walk to the stool because she is in the Top 12. A string is called in next, Arianna Afsar, Taylor Vaifanua, Alex Wagner-Trugman, Kendall Beard and Scott MacIntyre. Ryan Seacrest says that only one of these gets to move on. Scott MacIntyre, the blind guy is in.
Seacrest then calls Nathaniel Marshall and Kristen McNamara,...

The live result show is read for the next three contestants to advance to the Top 12 of "American Idol" this season. Ryan Seacrest announced that 25 million of votes were cast last night but before he can read out who got the most, montage of the performances are shown in flashes. Next is the group performance of Ne-Yo's "Closer".
Allison Iraheta, the red-hair who impressed the judges with her rendition of Heart's "Alone", is called first. Jesse Langseth and Matt Breitzke are called in also to join Allison and Ryan said one of them will move on to the next round. Matt and Jesse go home, Allison Iraheta secures the spot and takes the stage again to sing her song.
The show is apparently saving time by calling a bunch altogether. Megan Corkrey is called to the center stage along with Matt Giraud, Kris Allen and Jeanine Vailles. Again, one...

Nick Mitchell's Top 36 Inclusion Explained: In terms of total viewers, last night's American Idol peaked in the 8:30 p.m. half-hour, scoring 25.1 million for Mitchell's Norman Gentle aerobics, preliminary Nielsen estimates showed. Fodder for Idol Conspiracy Theorists: The much-hyped Adam Lambert, not unlike the prior week's much-hyped Danny Gokey, sang in the final spot in the final half-hour, reaching the show's largest 18-49 audience. Lucky Break? The unfortunate song choices from leadoff performers Jasmine Murray, Matt Giraud and Jeanine Vailes were contained to Idol's least-watched half-hour and its lowest-rated in the demo. Bottom Line: Pushed back to Wednesday because of...

Pre-empted by President Barack Obama's speech on Tuesday, February 24, "American Idol" is back to air the second wave of Top 36 performance the next day. Highlights from this second batch of performance is the Broadway -sounded Adam Lambert, the young divorced mother Megan Corkrey and the man with double personality Nick Mitchell aka Norman Gentle.
Spotted in the audience seat are the three finalists, Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver and Danny Gokey, who have advanced to the next round through last week's live votes. Host Ryan Seacrest opens with "Where else can you find a bartender, a font designer and a comedian?" The judges are seen not in their usual seating arrangement.
First up is Jasmine Murray, the 17-year-old, singing "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles. She is not particularly impressive with Kara DioGuardi branding it "all over the place". Simon Cowell said, "I like you. You've got a great look. You've...

Last week, the first group of Top 36 singers started strong (Ricky Braddy, Alexis Grace), came crashing down in the middle (Casey Carlson, Stevie Wright) and ended with the official "American Idol" coronation of Danny "The Redeemer" Gokey. Would Wednesday (Feb. 25) night's "American Idol" be more consistent? Would anybody rise to challenge the Gokey Juggernaut? Or would Wednesday's show only be about making fun of Nick "Normund Gentle" Mitchell? Full results after the break... Singer: Jasmine Murray Song: "Love Song" My Take: This is one of those songs that starts low and moves up, so Jasmine doesn't sound completely comfortable...
