Chicago – Since the world has been clamoring for a film about high school seniors touring a liberal arts college, “At Middleton” fills the bill, and throws in a symbolic midlife liaison between characters portrayed by Andy Garcia and Vera Farmiga, tripping across their own “life campus.”
Rating: 3.0/5.0
The set-up of the story is better than the result of that set up. Andy Garcia plays against his hunky type as a repressed physician who is desperate to have his son go to Middleton College. Vera Farmiga’s character is more flaky, the motivator to get herself and the good doctor off the beaten path. When they get together, they change each other in odd ways, that doesn’t allow for a natural relationship to develop. It’s as if writer/director Adam Rodgers walked around the college, and made up stuff for his characters to do based on how the campus is laid out,...

One Fine Day: Rodgers’ Debut Features Strong Script, Enjoyable Performances
In a saturated market of mediocrity, a slew of sub-par independent romantic dramedies often force some more attention worthy titles to get lost in the mix, which would be an unfortunate fate for Adam Rodgers’ directorial debut, At Middleton, which has been bouncing around on the festival circuit since a premiere at the Seattle Film Festival last year. While its aim isn’t to be extraordinary or overly ambitious in its intentions, it’s a confidently made, well written and handsomely performed scenario that gets a surprising amount of mileage from overly familiar dramatic tensions.
As the inevitability of their freshmen year at college looms near, a throng of people gather at the bucolic campus of Middleton, a prestigious Ivy League school. The severely anal retentive Audrey (Tessa Farmiga) has been dead set on the school, salivating at the...

At Middleton
Written by Glenn German and Adam Rodgers
Directed by Adam Rodgers
USA, 2013
The new drama At Middleton appears to be both for and created by the stereotypical teenager’s worst nightmare, their stereotypically embarrassing parents. Andy Garcia (who co-produced) and Vera Farmiga, in their best moments, have a decent enough chemistry, but for some strange reason, the script steers away from being something like a collegiate-themed Before Midnight and instead clutters the action with various vignettes that run the gamut from cloying and sentimental to downright painful. At best, this film is pleasantly familiar, but these moments are few and far between.
Garcia is George, an uptight heart surgeon bringing his son Conrad to Middleton College for an admissions tour. Farmiga is the flighty and more carefree Edith, bringing her daughter Audrey (Taissa Farmiga, Vera Farmiga’s sister in real life, which makes this an odd bit of casting) to the same tour.

Chicago – The actor Andy Garcia has been known throughout the years as a tough-guy leading man, with memorable roles in “The Godfather: Part III” and the “Ocean’s Eleven” series. He latest role is a gentle and comic turn, as a father doing a college tour with his son, and discovering more than expected in “At Middleton.”
Andy Garcia has experienced a brilliant American Dream story. He was born in Cuba, came to America as a child, where his father developed a successful perfume company. He was an athlete in high school, and turned to acting in his senior year. After graduating college, he moved to Los Angeles and began to move up the ladder. After doing “The Godfather: Part III,” Garcia continued with leading man roles in “Internal Affairs,” “Hero” and “When a Man Loves a Woman.” He is taking on more character parts at this point in his career,...

Set on a fictional college campus and taking place over the course of a single day, Adam Rodgers's At Middleton zeros in on the tension between fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, and the way new environments and unease over the future draw people together, even when two of them are married.
Andy Garcia plays an uptight, bow-tie-wearing heart surgeon with an unenthused son, while Vera Farmiga is a considerably more with-it seller of high-end children's furniture whose daughter (played by Farmiga's much younger sister, Taissa) is eager but resentful.
The two adults reveal far too much of their latent unhappiness to one another and generally behave as only movie characters would, which is to say that At Middleton doesn't resemble the Before trilog...

Sometimes, it’s nice just to keep things simple. Giant robots and complex ensemble comedies are great popcorn fun but, every once in a while, a gentle, whimsical romcom can feel like a breath of fresh air. And that’s exactly what we get with the trailer for Andy Garcia and Vera Farminga’s latest outing, At Middleton.
The premise for the film is rather straightforward: parents take their teenagers on the college campus tour of Middleton, in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. In conflict with their respective offspring, two of them find themselves ejected from the tour with, consequently, an afternoon to spend together. Romantic comedy ensues.
Directed by Adam Rodgers in his feature length debut, and featuring a script he co-wrote with writing partner Glenn German, At Middleton certainly appears to be anchored by warm, playful performances from the two leads. The always-watchable Andy Garcia (Ocean’s Eleven) plays ‘buttoned up’ heart surgeon George,...

You probably forgot, but way back in the ancient year of 2012, it was announced that Vera Farmiga and Andy Garcia were teaming for a campus romance flick entitled "Admissions." Yes, it sounds very similar in name to "Admission" starring Tina Fey and Paul Rudd which landed earlier this year, but now it has a new title and a fresh trailer, so you can see what it's all about. Directed by Adam Rodgers, the movie follows Edith (Farmiga), a free-spirited mom taking her driven daughter Audrey on a walking tour of a beautiful small college, who meets Garcia's buttoned-up heart surgeon George, who’s taking his son Conrad on the same tour. Can you guess what happens next? Well, if you can't, this "Before Sunset"-esque story finds the pair hanging out for the rest of the day, and presumably falling in love and sharing feelings and stuff. It's warm, broad and going straight to VOD.

Here’s an pairing that’s just so odd that it might work: Vera Farmiga and Andy Garcia as bubbly single parents of incoming college freshmen who fall in love when they meet on the campus tour. Adam Rodgers‘ At Middleton is the story about how they get separated from their kids and the tour and spend a day experiencing all the college has to offer instead. You know, like dancing in a dorm room and running fully-clothed through a fountain. Since this is a rom-com, Garcia is the straight man complete with a bowtie, and Farmiga is the free-spirited woman wearing a silk blouse. They have nothing in common, and yet they’re falling madly in love after just an afternoon together. You see, they went looking for the tour group and found each other instead. It’s a sweet trailer, but a bland premise. They both seem to be dissatisfied with their lives (Farmiga’s...

If the Tina Fey and Paul Rudd romantic comedy Admission didn't give you the kind of charm you wanted from a film about two people who fall in love at a college, then you might want to give At Middleton a try (a film that was actually called Admissions at one point). The new film follows Andy Garcia (Ocean's 11, City Island) and Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring, The Departed) as two parents who strike up a chat while on a college admissions tour and seem to fall in love at first sight. Farmiga's teenage sister Taissa Farmiga ("American Horror Story") also stars in the film as her daughter, and Danielle Garcia (daughter of the leading man) also plays a college student in the film. This looks pretty charming, but is it good? Watch! Here's the first trailer for Adam Rodger's At Middleton, originally from Yahoo: At Middleton marks the feature directorial debut of Adam Rodgers,...

In case the title sounds familiar – Middleton is an upcoming romantic comedy from director Adam Rodgers, which had its world premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival. The movie stars Vera Farmiga and Andy Garcia as two (completely different) parents who fall in love while taking their kids on a college admissions tour. Still nothing about the official release date, but at least we have a pretty cool trailer to share with you, check it out! Rodgers directed the whole thing from a script he co-wrote with Glenn German, which sends a quite simple message to all of us: you never know what you’ll...

How much do you really get to know a college from an official tour? The pervading opinion is not a lot. But in new film Middleton, a campus visit leads two starkly different parents to get to know themselves – and each other – as they wander off from the tour group.
Shot in eastern Washington at Gonzaga University and Washington State University, Middleton had its world premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival on Friday night. The film, which takes place all in one day at the titular fictional school, stars Vera Farmiga and Andy Garcia as the parents who meet on the college tour.

Farmiga on Higher Ground: Religious dogma and the search for spiritual enlightenment Academy Award-nominated actress Vera Farmiga discussed issues such as religious dogma, the striving for spiritual enlightenment, and the making of Higher Ground, her first tryout as a director, while chatting with entertainment journalist Tim Cogshell. (Although Higher Ground was released in 2011, Cogshell's interview was just recently published on YouTube.) Please scroll down to check out the six-minute interview. For the most part set in Iowa from the '60s to the '80s, Higher Ground follows a young couple (Farmiga and Boyd Holbrook), who become enmeshed with a radical Christian denomination. Real life interferes, however, something that eventually makes Farmiga's character begin to question her beliefs in god. Loosely based on Carolyn Briggs' memoir This Dark World: A Story of Faith Found, the film as co-written by Briggs and Tim Metcalfe. It had its world premiere...

We reported just a few months ago that Vera Farmiga and Andy Garcia were joining forces for the indie dramedy Admissions, and now we’re getting some supporting cast details; Spencer Lofranco, Taissa Farmiga and Nicholas Braun have joined the ensemble. [THR]
The picture follows a man (Garcia) and a woman (Farmiga) who fall in love while they are taking their children on a college admissions tour. After drawing notice with his award-winning film short The Response, Nyu Grad school graduate Adam Rodgers has gone into pre-production for his first feature film, Admissions. To be clear, this is not the Paul Rudd-Tina Fey vehicle. That's called Admission. And though both comedies are set on a college campus, Rodgers' Admissions doesn't center on the school's staff. Instead his feature focuses on a two (presumably single) parents who meet while taking their vexing children on a campus tour. Bringing some intrigue to Rodgers' debut is Vera Farmiga and Andy Garcia, who THR reports have signed on to front the film. Farmiga, who most recently appeared in the action-mystery Safe House, is set to play a free-spirit who sparks a connection with Garcia's uptight heart surgeon. When each is spurned by their respective ungrateful teenaged child, they decide to abandon the tour. From there they set off on...

They’ve both been (literally or figuratively) screwed by George Clooney onscreen, and now they’re combining forces on a project that should let either take more of a center stage.
