Michael B. Jordan has gone from child star to teenage heartthrob to Hollywood heavyweight before our eyes. An immensely talented actor who had his breakthrough in 2013's "Fruitvale Station," Jordan is one of the most in-demand actors working today. A favorite among cinephiles, Jordan has been recognized by critics groups around the world; he also received a Screen Actors Guild Award for his turn as the unrelenting yet sympathetic villain Killmonger in "Black Panther," which he shared with the rest of the film's cast.
But Jordan does more than just act. He produced 2019's "Just Mercy," and he's set to make his directorial debut with 2023's "Creed III." In fact, his turn as Apollo Creed's son, Donnie, helped solidify him as a bonafide star — we can't wait to see what he does behind the camera. Before "Creed III" hits theaters, here are the 12 best Michael B. Jordan movies, ranked from worst to best.

Directed by Washington, this story based on a reporter’s memoir about her soldier husband and their son fails to find a compelling focus
Director Denzel Washington and his stars do their best with this bland, shallow and awkwardly structured film. It’s a romantic drama based on the bestselling 2008 memoir from publisher and former New York Times reporter Dana Canedy, about the journal that her soldier husband Charles Monroe King wrote for their infant son Jordan just before King’s death in Iraq – telling Jordan how to respect women, himself and his country.
Chanté Adams plays Canedy, a young New York journalist in the 90s who falls hard for Charles (Michael B Jordan): a sweet, idealistic guy in the US army who has no desire for her to abandon her career for him. So they are apart a lot when he is training, and then, tragically, seeing action in the Middle East.

Costume designer Sharen Davis is having a big year, having worked with both Denzel Washington, who directed “A Journal for Jordan,” now in theaters, and with Will Smith, who stars in “King Richard,” on HBO Max.
“A Journal for Jordan,” based on the heartbreaking true story of a soldier deployed to Iraq who keeps a diary for his infant son, is the latest of her frequent collaborations with Washington. Davis says she worked hard to dress down “fashion icon” star Michael B. Jordan. Since the character was in the military, she decided he would have a suitcase with few items. “We want to see how he manages all these visits with five shirts and three pairs of pants,” Davis says.

Denzel Washington never saw a production of “Macbeth” in high school or college. So when he was offered the titular role in Shakespeare’s great tragedy, which he’d only read in the past two years, he wanted to make sure that he could wrap his head around how director Joel Coen would shoot the film with him and Frances McDormand as Lady Macbeth. “Let’s talk about the black and white of it all,” Washington recalls saying to Coen in an early conversation.
Coen began to respond, “Well, you’re Black …” before Washington stopped him. “No, no, no,” he interrupted. “I’m talking about you shooting in black and white!”
Washington laughs as he retells the story on a recent November afternoon during a conversation with Variety about his career as one of the most enduring movie stars of modern times. “So that’s where my head was at,...

Career military man Charles and Dana Canedy, an editor at the New York Times, who meet and unexpectedly fall in love, and the journal of fatherly advice the soldier leaves behind for his son. The film opens with a single mother, Dana Canedy (Chanté Adams), in New York struggling to balance her high-pressure career and the responsibilities of caring for her toddler son Jordan while grappling with grief. Bouncing between multiple timelines before, during, and after the US’s “War on Terror,” Denzel Washington’s A Journal for Jordan is a film that unfolds rather predictably, but is nevertheless impactful thanks to the charisma of leads Michael B. Jordan and Chante Adams. Like Clint Eastwood, Washington has again crafted another exploration of masculinity that could dismissed as “cry(ing) macho”––Jordan’s 1st Sergeant Charles Monroe King is just that, keenly aware of his duties, obligations, and that time may be running out. It must be reported that in the advanced preview screening I saw, with an audience of the general public, there was barely a dry eye in the house.
Straight forward and very sentimental, the film is at its core a love story between sophisticated New York Times reporter Dana Canedy (Adams) and 1st Sergeant King, a man who puts faith and country above all else.

Michael B. Jordan is aware of the fact that audiences will leave “A Journal for Jordan” talking about his booty.
There are a number of intimate and heartfelt moments in the Columbia Pictures romantic drama directed by Denzel Washington, which tells the true story of the late 1st Sgt. Charles Monroe King (Jordan) and his love, journalist-turned-publisher Dana Canedy (Chanté Adams). But in one particular love scene, the camera captures Jordan in the buff, with the frame just wide enough to show the actor’s butt.
It’s a brief (or lack thereof) moment, but if a woman’s ear-piercing scream in this reporter’s screening of the movie is any indication, there’s no way audiences will miss it.
When Variety asked the award-winning actor what reaction he expected when he first learned of the scene, Jordan chuckled as he searched for the appropriate words.

Denzel Washington has two war films opening for Christmas — one written by a certain Will Shakespeare about a fellow named Macbeth in which Washington plays the title role, and another which he directed only. The latter, A Journal for Jordan, is Washington’s fourth outing behind the camera and is as sincere and unquestioningly patriotic as anything made during the 1940s.
In this sense, it’s an odd and oddly timed film, one that emerges at a moment when the world is far more preoccupied by the danger of a global pandemic than by a misguided war — the one in Iraq — that most Americans would just as soon forget, if, indeed, they haven’t already. The chemistry between stars Michael B. Jordan, playing a very hunky straight arrow, and his vibrant co-star Chantá Adams sets things percolating from time to time, but this is a film that asks no questions...

This past weekend saw box office records getting shattered left and right as Spider-Man: No Way Home scored the second highest domestic opening of all time, taking the box office beyond merely being “good for the pandemic.” In one weekend it became the year’s top grossing film in the U.S. and the sixth highest worldwide, and by the end of the year it may very well become number one. While Spider-Man will continue to reign at the box office for a number of weeks (it just took home the third best Monday gross ever), the slew of films big and small opening this week promises something for everyone, and the Christmas frame won’t be entirely dominated by the webslinger.

Chanté Adams is ready for the world to see her breakout role in A Journal For Jordan. The romantic-drama, coproduced by Michael B. Jordan and directed by Denzel Washington, is based on a heartbreaking true story from the memoir, A Journal for Jordan: A Story of Love and Honor, by journalist Dana Canedy. Just like the book, the upcoming film recalls how Canedy and the late Sergeant Charles Monroe King first fell in love, as well as the journal King kept for his son, Jordan, before he died in Iraq.

In a year-end movie landscape marked, on the one hand, by a stream of prestige adult dramas that struggle more than ever to find actual adults to see them, and on the other hand by the kind of oversize fantasy event films whose job it now is to keep the industry alive, “A Journal for Jordan” feels like an odd movie out more than it might have, say, 20 years ago. Back in the 1980s, it would have been right down the middle of the plate. Today, it seems like a film out of time. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
It’s the fourth feature directed by Denzel Washington, and unlike his last one, the epic and lacerating “Fences” (2016), this one takes us back to the life-affirming feel-good middlebrow sincerity of his first two films as a director, “Antwone Fisher” (2002) and “The Great Debaters” (2007). “It wasn’t what I was expecting” is perhaps the cheapest piece of criticism that can be lobbed at a work of art, but in the case of, oh, a fact-based melodrama that pulls from both a) real life and b) the memoir written about it, some basic expectations are inevitable. Denzel Washington’s “A Journal for Jordan” certainly has a straightforward enough premise — per its own synopsis, it’s “based on the true story of First Sergeant Charles Monroe King (Michael B. Jordan) a soldier deployed to Iraq who begins to keep a journal of love and advice for his infant son” — but the end result is that audiences might worry they’ve stepped into the wrong theater. No, it’s not what you’re expecting, and what it is isn’t very good, either.

Denzel Washington‘s latest directorial effort, “A Journal for Jordan,” stars Michael B. Jordan and Chanté Adams and will be released by Sony Pictures on December 25. Sony will now open the Denzel Washington directed drama A Journal for Jordan on Christmas Day instead of an initial launch on Dec. 10 in NYC and LA with a wider break on Dec. 22.
In the Virgil Williams screenplay adapted from the Dana Canedy article, 1st Sgt. Charles Monroe King (Michael B. Jordan), before he is killed in action in Baghdad, authors a journal for his son intended to tell him how to live a decent life despite growing up without a father. Chanté Adams plays Canedy in the film.
In addition, they’ve unset the Elle and Dakota Fanning WWII feature The Nightingale from its Dec. 23, 2022 release.
The studio behind this fall’s big hit Venom: Let There Be Carnage has also RSVP’ed two spots for untitled Marvel pics: June 23, 2023 and Oct. 6, 2023. It’s possible one of these dates might be held for Venom 3, though it’s too early to pin.

It has been such a pleasure watching Michael B. Jordan evolve onscreen. From his breakout as Wallace, the emotional center of the first season of The Wire, to Vince Howard, the anchor of the latter seasons of Friday Night Lights, on to film projects that showcased his true leading man ability like Creed and Fruitvale Station, Jordan has always projected both naturalism and star power. He’s been compared to Denzel Washington by The Hollywood Reporter, listed as a “rising young star” in just about every media trade publication, and has even been named People’s Sexiest Man Alive. Yet despite this, Jordan still projects an everyman quality that makes him believable in superhero spectacles and courtroom dramas alike.

Remember Mike Pence? You’ll be hearing about him a lot more in the relatively near future, as the former vice president and likely 2024 presidential candidate signed a multimillion-dollar, two-book deal with publisher Simon & Schuster.
“I wonder if he knows they’re a gay couple, Simon and Schuster,” Jimmy Kimmel joked on Thursday’s episode of his eponymous talk show.
The first book will be an autobiography, and is tentatively slated for release sometime in 2023.
“A release date has not yet been announced, but the title has,” Kimmel said. “It’s going to be called ‘Ass-Kisser.’ I like it. It’s simple, it’s to the point.”
In a statement, Simon & Schuster executive Dana Canedy called Pence’s memoir “the definitive book on one of the most consequential presidencies in American history.”
“Oh, it was consequential all right!” Kimmel said in response. “I agree with that.”

Kendrick Lamar accepted his 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music today at Columbia University in New York.
The Compton-born Mc, who sat at a table with CBS News anchor Gayle King, didn’t comment while accepting the prize, but briefly remarked in the Pulitzer Facebook live video, “It’s an honor … I’ve been writing my whole life, so to get this type of recognition – it’s beautiful.” That was his only comment to date on winning the prize.
It was the first win for a non-classical or jazz musician since the awards began including music some 75 years ago.
The Pulitzer board deemed the album “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.” At the time of the announcement, Punch, head of Lamar’s label Top Dawg Entertainment, tweeted: “Pulitzer Prize winner Kdot from Compton. Hot “Damn”! On April 16 Pulitzer Prize Administrator Dana Canedy announced the winners of the 2018 Pulitzer Prizes, which were established in 1917 to honor the best in journalism, literature, drama and music. Administered by New York’s Columbia University, the Pulitzers made history this year by awarding Kendrick Lamar for his album “Damn” in the music category. He’s the first rap artist ever to win the award, which usually goes to classical or jazz compositions — as a reminder, the Grammys went with Bruno Mars. Watch the complete announcement above.
The Pulitzers called “Damn” a “virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.” It lost the Grammy for Album of the Year to Mars’s “24K Magic” earlier this year, but it nevertheless won five trophies for Lamar: Best Rap Album; Best Rap/Sung Performance for “Loyalty” (with Rihanna); and Best Rap Performance,...

Kendrick Lamar has won a Pulitzer Prize for music for his album “Damn.,” the organization announced Monday afternoon. Host Dana Canedy seemed quietly delighted when making the announcement.
While the Pulitzer’s usual laudatory blurb explaining the reasoning behind the award was not available at press time, there’s little doubt about the impact Lamar has had on hip-hop, music and culture since he broke into the mainstream with his 2012 album “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City.” Each of his albums has been a vast musical progression from the one that came before, but most importantly, his lyrics reflect his upbringing in Los Angeles’ tough Compton area, the black experience in America, hip-hop’s history and legacy, stardom and countless other topics — all through a remarkably modest and self-assured attitude, one that does not lack the confidence and bluster that most rappers have, but all through the lens of an old soul.

The New York Times and the New Yorker have jointly won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for public service for their influential exposes of disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.
The explosive investigations into Weinstein’s abuses in the Times (reported by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey) and the New Yorker (by Ronan Farrow) were clearly the headline news stories of the last year, rocking the entertainment industry and spurring a global reckoning about the harassment and abuse of women. The shared prize was at the top of a list of 2018 Putlizer winners that also included awards for political coverage of Trump’s presidency as well as arts awards for musician Kendrick Lamar for his album “Damn.” and playwright Martyna Majok for her play “Cost of Living.”
