Almost a full year on from the moment Disney shuttered the studio, Game Informer reports that Warner Bros. Interactive has stepped in to revive Avalanche Software. The first order of business? A Cars 3 video game.
News of Warner’s decision comes almost a year after Disney announced plans to exit the video game development scene altogether – barring mobile titles – resulting in not only the closure of Avalanche, but the cancellation of the toys-to-life Disney Infinity series. Close to 300 employees were laid off at Avalanche Software – not to be confused with Avalanche Studios, the dev behind Just Cause and the Max Payne franchise – but this represents a new lease of life for the team.
In light of the announcement, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment President David Haddad released the following statement:

In the past couple of weeks, Disney Pixar has shown us trailers for the upcoming Cars 3 movie. Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced that there will also be a video game based on the Cars franchise and the developer for the game will be none other than, Avalanche Software!
Avalanche Software, which Disney closed down in May 2016, was acquired by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment in Jan 2017, with John Blackburn returning as the CEO. During their time under Disney ownership, Avalanche produced numerous games based on Disney characters, including Disney Infinity. Disney Infinity was Disney's answer to the Toys-to-Life genre, much like Skylanders and Amiibos.
In an ironic twist, Avalanche's first assignment, as part of Wbie, will be to go back to the place that shut them down and create a game based on the upcoming Disney-Pixar movie, Cars 3. While it may seem a little cruel, at first, the assignment makes complete sense.

Toys-to-life game Disney Infinity is to be discontinued and Disney's console game business ended, it's been announced...
Well, this is grim news to report. The Disney Infinity toys-to-life game and its accompanying playsets are to be discontinued, with Disney citing a lack of growth in the market and rising development costs as factors behind its decision.
The news was confirmed by Disney Interactive's John Blackburn late yesterday, with a blog update revealing that the next wave of toys for Disney Infinity - three figures for Alice Through The Looking Glass set for release this month, and a Finding Dory set scheduled for June - will be the game's last. The immediate impact is that Avalanche, the studio which developed Infinity, is to close with the loss of around 300 jobs; it's a sad end for a company which had managed to ride out a changing industry for over 20 years.

Though it may have leaked ahead of time last week, Disney has formally unveiled the next chapter in its lucrative sandbox franchise via Game Informer as Disney Infinity 3.0, which will bring together faces old and new for another bout of pixelated action.
As fans of the series are well aware, Disney’s creative IP is all about the characters leading the battle charge, and the mainline attraction for 3.0 is the addition of Star Wars and its prized assets. Catering to both trilogies, the latest installment will launch with Twilight of the Republic later this year, focusing on the adventures of Anakin et al. post-Attack of the Clones. As for Rise Against the Empire, old-school Star Wars fans will be pleased to note that this story pack will bring back favorites such as Luke, Leia and Han. Characters can transition between trilogies, too, because continuity has no hold on the Disney Infinity universe.

Star Wars characters could debut in Disney Infinity 2.0 next year, Avalanche Software has teased.
Asked by Newsarama for any future teasers, Avalanche Software CEO John Blackburn and executive producer John Vignocchi loosely referenced the opening of Star Wars.
"We can talk about the future, but that's far, far away," said Blackburn, to which Vignocchi replied: "2015 is not so far, far away anymore, is it?"
The beginning of each Star Wars movie opens with a line containing the words: "In a galaxy far, far away."
Star Wars and Marvel characters and Play Sets were tipped for Disney Infinity 2.0 prior to its announcement, but only Marvel characters have been confirmed.
Elsewhere, Vignocchi said that his favourite female Disney character would appear in the sequel and would be announced at a later date.

First came Disney Infinity 1.0 with the assorted characters from Disney's animated and live-action film vaults. Next month comes the release of Disney Infinity 2.0 which adds various Marvel superhero characters to its roster.
The inevitable question then arises, what about the studio's other mega franchise - "Star Wars". Will the world that George Lucas built be a part of an inevitable Disney Infinity 3.0?
Speaking with Newsarama, Avalanche Software CEO John Blackburn and Infinity executive producer John Vignocchi dropped big hints that not only will it happen, but it will likely be sometime next year.
The pair were teasing the interviewer about future developments for the game with Blackburn saying "I like your other tease better. We can talk about the future, but that's far, far away" and Vignocchi adding "2015 is not so far, far away anymore, is it?" with the emphasis on the 'far, far away' wording - the same phrasing...

Now that Disney Infinity has announced various Marvel characters for its second generation release next month, some people might be wondering when Disney’s other massive movie franchise — the one with lightsabers, wookiees and stormtroopers — might be added to the video game that already allows players to mix and match characters from its animated movies, Pirates of the Caribbean series and The Lone Ranger, among other properties. The answer, apparently, is "next year." In an interview with Newsarama, John Blackburn, CEO of Disney Infinity studio Avalanche Software, and Infinity executive producer John Vignocchi dropped a heavy hint that

Not long ago, we relayed information pertaining to a potential Disney Infinity version 2.0 release. However, at that time, things were still in rumour form, despite a leak that seemed to officially list a forthcoming sequel. That veil has now been lifted, thanks to today’s Disney Interactive webcast.
What the gaming populace has now been made privy to is the existence of Disney Infinity’s 2.0 release, which has been dubbed Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes. Its comic book affiliation shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, though, since a teaser trailer featuring Captain America’s shield recently hit the Internet.
Developed by Avalanche Software and scheduled for release during the Fall 2014 window, Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes will mark the first time that some of Marvel’s most iconic characters have crossed paths with the hit toy/video game series. As such, you can expect to be able to...

Tuesdays are when new books are typically released, and horror fans usually don’t have too much trouble finding something to read. There is Amazon of course and publishers like Samhain and Cemetery Dance…
We also boast authors ranging from "The King" himself to Dan Simmons, Robert McCammon, the late Thomas Tryon, Tim Curran, Aussies Stephen Irwin, Brett McBean, and Aaron Dries as well as Brits such as David Moody, anthologist Stephen Jones, and Mark Morris, to name just a very few.
But what if you long for the paperback originals which seemed to flood bookstores back in the 80s or want to read even earlier horror that is long out of print? What to do? Well, you turn to Valancourt Books to assuage those yearnings. And we recently spoke with Ryan Cagle, one half of the publishing team that brings those long unavailable titles to life for readers to enjoy again,...

Everybody has heard of Skylanders, and last week it was even announced that the franchise passed $500 million in Us. Now it seems that Disney has seen this news and thought “oh s**t we should be jumping on this idea” and have revealed what they are calling their “most ambitious gaming initiative ever”, Disney Infinity. This all new game platform unlocks the freedom to create stories and play experiences starring beloved characters from The Walt Disney Company and Pixar Animation Studios. Disney Infinity allows players to both experience original adventures in some of their favourite Disney and Pixar worlds and to build their own worlds using the power of their imagination, exactly the same as Activision with Skylanders, Disney have released details of some the characters like The Incredibles, Toy Story and Cars but they don’t seem to be any of the classics like Mickey Mouse, Little Mermaid, Cinderella and Snow White.

The good people over at Disney Interactive Studios have just released the first trailer for the video game tie-in to the upcoming Toy Story 3. You’d have to be a real Stinky Pete not to be excited for the new movie, and the game is looking awfully nice as well. Take a look the Toy Story 3: The Video Game trailer:
The previous Toy Story films came out during the era of the N64 and Ps one. Though I know the N64 Toy Story game had some fans, I think it’s safe to say that the definitive Toy Story experience has yet to be delivered on consoles. In fact, there really hasn’t been a great Pixar game to date, though Rainbow Studio’s first Cars game came close.
Now that we’ve moved to a generation of consoles that can really do justice to Toy Story’s visuals,...
