The streamers, led by Netflix, moved into the non-scripted entertainment space in a serious way about five years ago.
This coupled with the fact that the broadcast networks were still having disproportionate success with unscripted shows, opened plenty of opportunities for producers to create new entertainment formats.

Since then, the pair have worked with the likes of Helen Mirren, Tan France, Alexa Chung and Gigi Hadid on a number of shiny floor entertainment shows.

“The Great British Baking Show” will be back on Netflix to warn against the dangers of soggy bottoms later this year.
While no specific premiere date has been set, Collection 9 of the popular baking competition series will debut on the streamer this fall. Collection 8 debuted back in September, with Netflix releasing episodes three days after they ran in the U.K.
The show follows a group of amateur bakers as they are put through their paces in a series of weekly challenges by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. One contestant is eliminated each week, and the winner is selected from the contestants who reach the finals.
Letty Kavanagh, Richard McKerrow, and Kieran Smith serve as executive producers, with series producer Jenna Mansfield serving as showrunner. Love Productions produces the series.
Netflix also made several other announcements regarding its slate of baking shows. First up, “Bake Squad” hosted by Christina Tosi will debut on Aug.

Tuesday is turning into in-season reality night on Fox for the first time in almost a decade.
The network has slotted Tuesday, February 26 for the Season 7 premiere of MasterChef Junior. The culinary competition series featuring talented kid chefs will air at 8 Pm, replacing Lethal Weapon, whose 16-episode third season will have its finale the previous week.
MasterChef Junior will be followed by previously announced new obstacle course reality competition Mental Samurai at 9 Pm, also set to premiere Feb. 26. It will replace drama The Gifted.
Tuesday has been a weak spot on Fox’s schedule, and the network is looking to shake things up with an all-reality lineup, which involves some counter-programming, going with an unscripted show against NBC”s drama juggernaut This Is Us at 9 Pm.
The last time Fox had an all-reality Tuesday lineup during the regular broadcast season was in fall 2009 when it aired an in-season installment of...

Netflix has booked “The Final Table,” a high-end cooking contest that pits 24 international star chefs against each other in creating dishes from around the world. The streaming giant has also lined up “Death by Magic,” featuring a British magician who travels the globe performing stunts that stymied – and killed – other illusionists.
Unveiling sneak peeks of both shows at the Edinburgh TV Festival on Thursday, Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s vice president of unscripted programming, said “The Final Table” was distinguished by its starry complement of competing chefs, at least half of whom have a Michelin star. “We wanted to take a bold swing and sort of show in that space only what Netflix could really do,” Riegg said. “Just having that caliber of chef is something new.”
The contestants try their hand at haute-cuisine versions of national dishes such as Spanish paella, an American Thanksgiving dinner and a traditional English breakfast.
