Don’t feel bad if you haven’t watched every single outcome of the “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend” interactive special because Ellie Kemper hasn’t either, and she lived it. “I know that I have not seen all of it. I remember reading things in the script that I haven’t watched yet, so it takes time to go through every iteration,” Kemper told Gold Derby (watch above). “So, no, I actually have not seen all of it yet. It’s so lovely because there’s all these little Easter eggs. If you really work hard, you can watch every piece of it.”
Now streaming on Netflix, “Kimmy vs. the Reverend” finds Kimmy (Kemper) three days out from her wedding to Prince Frederick (Daniel Radcliffe), but she takes a detour from wedding planning to locate another group of Mole Women that Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne (Jon Hamm...

Tituss Burgess had a bad feeling when Tina Fey called him during “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s” fourth season, but it turned out to be a case of bad news/good news. “We found out in the middle of Season 4 that it would be the last season. Tina Fey called me and I could tell by the tone in her voice, I was like, ‘Oh, no,'” Burgess recalls to Gold Derby (watch the exclusive video above). “But she also said in the same breath, ‘There’s also a good chance we might be making a movie.’ So it was both a time of sadness and mourning a little bit, but also excitement because it felt like another extension, a continuation, if you will.”
But it wasn’t just a regular movie to wrap up Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) & Co.’s adventures. An interactive special, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend...

For as intriguing as innovations in TV structure are, the first question I had about “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” doing an “interactive” special was simply, “….why?” For as long as books and games and even YouTube playlists have indulged “choose your own adventure” style storytelling, which gives its audience the illusion of free will while picking between prewritten options to shift the plot, television’s never quite been able to crack it. Before streaming, there was no way to let TV viewers drive the story; afterward, streaming networks still largely stuck to preexisting TV structure, sans commercial breaks. Even “Bandersnatch,” Netflix’s first stab at the format via its technological nightmare drama “Black Mirror,” mostly uses an interactive interface to unfurl a series of disturbing taunts rather than compelling narratives.
With “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. The Reverend,” Netflix is trying again with a starkly different approach than its “Black Mirror” stab.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the final episodes of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” streaming on Netflix.
Sometimes in comedy all it takes is the idea for a one-line joke to spark a conversation that leads to something greater. That was the case for “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” co-creators and co-showrunners Robert Carlock and Tina Fey and their team of writers to develop the “Sliding Doors” double-episode of the final season of their Netflix series.
“We thought it would just be a joke in an episode, and it kind of just grew into, ‘Well, it might be fun to see if we could explore that and see what would happen to people,'” Carlock tells Variety.
Fey notes that the movie came out early enough that Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) would have been aware of it, and that formed the basis of a joke, but what really interested...

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 4 will be back for its final episodes in 2019. Here's a new trailer!
It's a miracle! Kimmy, Titus, Jacqueline, and Lillian are returning for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 4. This season will be broken up into two parts. Netflix announced that the first six episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 4 will drop on the service on May 30. The second half of the season will be released later in 2018.
The Emmy-nominated series is critically acclaimed and a popular binge amongst fans. It was one of the “most savored” series, like a nice glass of pinot noir, when Netflix gave the press a brief glimpse into what original shows performed best for the service.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt stars Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski and Carol Kane. Guests during season three included Maya Rudolph, Daveed Diggs, Laura Dern, and the return of Jon Hamm as The Reverend.

The Marvel superhero shows on Netflix aren't the only TV series to have a shared universe. While many assumed 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt are connected thanks to the inclusion of Mikey (Mike Carlsen), the construction worked, it is in fact Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Orange Is the New Black that are connected. Sort of. In the fifth episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Gretchen (Lauren Adams) is sent to prison after a standoff with police and her cult of teen boys. It's not just any prison, it's Litchfield. "There were sort of two possibilities for the end of that story: Gretchen dies or she goes to prison. And the first didn't like a possibility and the second seemed like actually...

Six episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
No show has been so endearingly messy over the last few years as Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which ping pongs between sincere character arcs and Saturday morning cartoon-level slapstick faster than you can say “Columbia House.” That messiness has mostly weighed in creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock’s favor, because the two know how to form some semblance of bedrock familiarity – Kimmy is naive yet strong-willed, Titus is jaded yet optimistic – amid the high-flying insanity.
That’s maybe more evident than ever in the show’s third season, which feels more cohesively satisfying as a consistent story (or the six episodes I’ve seen of it) than anything that’s come before. Although season 1 remains the home of the best gags and season 2 had slightly more focused arcs, season 3 combines these two things into what feels like classic, bingeable, endlessly quotable Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

The second season of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” was every bit as oddball in its sense of humor as the first, but it also brought greater emotional depth to the Netflix comedy by delving deeper into the characters’ inner lives. One of Season 2’s major storylines was the introduction of Mike Carlsen’s character Mikey, a new love interest for Tituss Burgess’ amusingly self-obsessed performer. “This last season was such a joy to film,” Burgess said in the latest installment of TheWrap’s Drinking With the Stars with Stuart Brazell. “It’s really funny to watch Titus be vulnerable and have...

Let's get it out of the way - 11:55 is derivative. It's a showdown film. Showdown films have a simple plot device and story line: the protagonist is threatened and driven by angst, "Should I stay or should I go?" The antagonist is driven by rage and revenge and has clear intentions. The characters' reasons vary from film to film but the premise is the same. You've seen films like that hundreds of times. Welcome to 11:55.
There's no shame in dragging out an old chestnut. William Shakespeare never came up with an original story line either. Co-director Ben Snyder admitted to the fact that the film's title was inspired by High Noon. But this film, which had its world premiere recently at the Los Angeles Film Festival, is the first directorial effort of Ari Issler and Snyder.
Nelson Sanchez (co-screenwriter Victor Almanzar) is a returning Afghan War veteran.

Netflix released the whole second season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Friday, and I'm going to offer some overall thoughts on the season, followed by specific takes on each episode, coming up just as soon as I ask whether Cate Blanchett is really a great actress, or just tall... Netflix made the first six episodes available to critics, and while I enjoyed most of those early installments, the back half of the season was by far the stronger part, and the phase of things where the shift from making episodes for NBC to making them for Netflix was much more apparent. Season 1 also turned more serialized towards the end, with the trial of the Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne, and it had its emotional moments as Kimmy faced down her captor. But the later episodes of season 2 felt darker and more complicated in their attempt to address Kimmy's emotional damage.

I stand by my praise of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s peerlessly bizarre freshman season. Co-creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock created a world that not only felt weirdly truthful as its characters ran rampant through satisfying emotional beats, but was just plain weird. Robot maids were killed off, Don Draper was a maniacal cult leader, and ATMs gave out negative dollar bills. To put it plainly, Netflix saved a show that undoubtedly would never have seen its due on NBC. The cherry on top was a central theme of individuality, polished to a shine thanks to some welcomely diverse personalities that could have veered into grating stereotypes in lesser hands.
Now that Fey and Carlock have the canvas to run rampant with Netflix’s nebulous time restraints, not to mention a newly devout fanbase that knows the ins and outs of every Peeno...
