Dynamite Entertainment’s “King Kong: The Great War” #5, is written by Alex Cox and illustrated by Tommaso Bianchi, with covers by Jae Lee, Jackson Guice and Joe DeVito:
“…our heroes finally reach the safety of high ground as they scale the deadly island’s skull-shaped mountain. Safe from ‘Kong, they can see human civilization in the distance. But will the cave in which they have taken refuge prove to be a sanctuary — or a mortuary?!?…”

Late-night TV talk shows have gone dark due to the WGA writers strike — well, all except one. Fox News Channel’s “Gutfeld!” (the exclamation point is theirs) will remain on television. Host Greg Gutfeld has non-union writers, IndieWire is told.
Gutfeld’s writing staff is smaller than most traditional late-night talk shows. He’s got some known comedians, including Nick Dipaolo and Joe DeVito, as well as longtime producer Tom O’Connor. Senior producer is Arash Mosaleh; Joe Machi is also on the writing staff.
Some may not consider “Gutfeld!” to hold a place in the long-running stable of comedy talk shows including CBS’ “The Late Show,” NBC’s “Tonight Show” and “Late Night,” ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” (exclamation mark also theirs), and Comedy Central’s “Daily Show.” But, like those guys, Gutfeld does topical comedy — he just leans the other way.
Also comparable to the main stable? Greg’s ratings.

Not all the late-night shows have gone dark, it seems.
Gutfeld! will remain on Fox News, airing a new episode Tuesday evening. This comes after the WGA called for a writers strike following breakdown in talks with the studios.
All of the other late-night shows including The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers and The Daily Show have halted production.
While Gutfeld!, hosted by Greg Gutfeld, has a smaller team than most of the late-night shows and Gutfeld writes his own monologue, he does have some help from the likes of Nick Dipaolo. Tom O’Connor — who has worked with Gutfeld since his Red Eye days — exec produces, Arash Mosaleh is senior producer, and the writing staff includes Joe DeVito and Joe Machi.
Deadline understands that Gutfeld and his team are not WGA members.

Disney+ is heading to Skull Island for a live-action King Kong series that will explore the mystery and mythology of the giant ape’s home. As reported by Deadline, the series is in the very early stages of development at the streamer, with Disney Branded Television behind the project. It is said to be based on the original 1933 film directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack, as well as the recent novelizations by artist Joe DeVito. Stephany Folsom (Paper Girls) is on board as writer and executive producer. James Wan (Aquaman) will also serve as executive producer alongside Michael Clear and Rob Hackett via their Atomic Monster banner and Dannie Festa of World Builder Entertainment. King Kong has seen a resurgence in recent years due to Legendary Entertainment’s Monsterverse movies, including 2017’s Kong: Skull Island and 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong. However, the upcoming Disney+ series is not connected to the Monsterverse franchise.

King Kong will swing back into streaming with a live-action series at Disney+, now in early development per Deadline.
Written by Stephany Folsom (“Paper Girls”), the working titled “King Kong” project would mark the gigantic ape-like monster’s fourth serialized adventure, but will be the first to feature live actors running alongside the title creature. (“The King Kong Show” (1966), “Kong: The Animated Series” (2000), and “Kong: King of the Apes” (2016) were all animated.)
“‘King Kong’ is a serialized action/adventure drama that brings the classic monster story into the modern age, with a return to Skull Island and the dawn of a new Kong,” reports Nellie Andreeva for Deadline. “The series will explore the mythology of King Kong’s origin story and the supernatural mysteries of his home based on IP from Merian C. Cooper’s original books and the new King Kong novelizations by Joe DeVito.”

A new spin on an old classic is in the works at Disney+. According to Variety, the streamer is in the process of developing a live-action King Kong series. While differing rights to "King Kong" stories have resulted in several on-screen versions over the years, including the Legendary-Warner Bros. MonsterVerse saga, the latest iteration is going back to the source material. It will reportedly be based on the original story by Merian C. Cooper, plus more modern "King Kong" novelizations by Joe DeVito, which were made in conjunction with Cooper's estate.
Most interestingly, the new project already has some great talent on board behind the camera. Horror director James Wan will executive produce through his company Atomic Monster, with Michael Clear and Rob Hackett also on board as EPs. The show will be written and executive produced by Stephany Folsom, who recently developed the '80s teen sci-fi comics "Paper Girls" for Prime Video.

King Kong may have plunged off the Empire State Building - in each of the film adaptations so far - but there's still life in the old beast yet.
Twentieth Century Fox's cartoon division is aiming to create a "modern-day twist" on the classic tale, according to Deadline.
Fox Animation has hired Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow to write a new animated feature told from the ape's viewpoint.
It's not the only reimagining in the pipeline. Back in July 2009, Spirit Pictures picked up rights to the Dark Horse book Kong: King of Skull Island.
Created by illustrator Joe DeVito and fantasy writer Brad Strickland, the novel explained that following Kong's death, both the ape's body and showman Carl Denham (who brought the beast to America) vanished before any investigation could be launched.
A quarter of a century later, in 1957, Denham's son Vincent stumbles upon the Skull Island map, contacts Jack...

I'm dragging a bit today because last night while I was getting ready for bed the toilet in my half bath started making noises like it was possessed and, having been raised Catholic, I was torn between fleeing the apartment before I became a victim of a tragic yet hilarious accident involving toilet shrapnel and running upstairs to grab a cross to brandish at the offending appliance while yelling "the power of Christ compels you!" It stopped, and apparently was just a water flow problem (...allegedly. I think I'm gonna get some holy water to keep around the house just in case) but I did not fall asleep easily last night. Therefore I don't have a ton to say about what's on TV tonight except that there's a double helping of fawning over Prince William and Kate Middleton's upcoming wedding and the usual helping of super-misery. Here's your Monday night...

Great news for fans of monster movies - King Kong is heading back to the big screen in a new fantasy adventure story.
Spirit Pictures has picked up the rights to the book Kong: King of Skull Island, which was published by Dark Horse in December 2004, a year before Peter Jackson's King Kong remake was released.
Authorised by the estate of Kong's creator Merian C. Cooper, the lavishly-illustrated book is both a sequel and a prequel to the original story.
Created by acclaimed illustrator Joe DeVito, alongside fantasy writer Brad Strickland, the novel explains that following Kong's fatal plunge from the Empire State Building, both the ape's body and showman Carl Denham (who brought the beast to America) had vanished before any investigation can be launched.
