Every horror story is already somewhat spoiled.
Whether it’s a movie, TV show, book, or short story, the horror classification alone is a tip off to the audience; a warning that despite any good fortune these characters appear to have, their lives are about to take a sharp downward turn.
So unfolds the first installment of Apple’s “The Changeling,” based on the 2017 horror novel by Victor Lavalle and adapted for television by Kelly Marcel. Episode 101 wears the disguise of romantic drama, the story of Apollo Kagwa (Lakeith Stanfield) and Emma Valentine (Clark Backo), a rare bookseller and librarian who fall in love. There’s even a parallel flashback to Apollo’s mother Lillian (Alexis Louder) and father Brian (Jared Abrahamson). Packaged with Melina Matsoukas’ direction, Marcell Rev’s cinematography, and Lavalle himself narrating lofty ideas about fate and identity, you could almost forget briefly forget that promised seed...

The world has changed a lot since “Black Mirror” premiered in 2011; mostly as the lines between fact and fiction blur. The sci-fi show from Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones became shorthand for our bleakest and most dystopic realities, whether that was a caricature rising to the highest office in the nation, technology used to monitor and manipulate human behavior, or alternate realities and artificial intelligence.
With Season 6 now on Netflix — its prescience and potency somewhat in question — IndieWire had to revisit the existing episodes and our previous ranking. Comparing installments of an anthology series like this one is inherently tricky, even if there is a certain “We’re all doomed” throughline present in most..
Arranging the episodes by quality also doesn’t guarantee the ideal viewing order, but IndieWire’s list naturally punctures defeatism with hope. We don’t recommend binge-viewing, but if you want to journey back through “Black Mirror,...

Monica Barbaro is Hollywood’s Renaissance woman.
She learned how to fly F-18 fighter jets to star alongside Tom Cruise in “Top Gun: Maverick.” In 2021, she played a mother in Ricky D’Ambrose’s autobiographical film “The Cathedral.” Currently, she’s taking vocal and guitar lessons to prepare for her role as Joan Baez alongside Timothée Chalamet in the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic, “A Complete Unknown.” And before she even began working as an actor, she was a ballerina studying dance at Tisch School of the Arts.
Now, the 32-year-old is reflecting on her most recent endeavor, starring alongside terminating action-legend Arnold Schwarzenegger in their new Netflix series “Fubar,” in which she plays his hard-hitting CIA agent daughter Emma.
Barbaro spoke with Variety about what it was like making the show, working with the Austrian muscleman and how acting, like ballet, is keeping her on her toes.

The Arnold Schwarzenegger Netflix spy comedy “Fubar” starts out so unfettered by reality that it holds real promise.
Luke Brunner, the CIA operative played by Schwarzenegger, who is 75, is described as being 65. He is on the eve of retirement when they pull him back in to infiltrate the Guyana compound of arms dealer Boro (Gabriel Luna), a guy so brutal that he kills an associate on stage at an outdoor party and orders the blood-splattered band to keep playing.
Also in Guyana is Luke’s do-gooder daughter, Emma. Unbeknownst to her father, she is also a CIA operative and so deeply embedded in Boro’s world that she has become his favorite fight-club competitor.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Umbrella Academy Season 3, Episodes 1-3, “Meet the Family,” “World’s Biggest Ball of Twine,” and “Pocket Full of Lightning.”] Five minutes. That’s how far we get into Season 3 before The Umbrella Academy does something absolutely bonkers — in this case, a Sparrows vs. Umbrellas dance-off that winds up not being real. Surprise! To be fair, this is a show known for going a little (or a lot) crazy—we’ve already had talking monkey butlers, a robot mom, a mannequin girlfriend, and a main character becoming a cult leader. So, if anything, the almost-immediate descent into chaos proves the show is as devoted to the strange, supernatural, and utterly weird in its third set of episodes as it’s always been. Let’s get into it. Christos Kalohoridis/Netflix © 2022 The Sparrows and the Umbrellas come to blows in Episode 1, and the Umbrellas get, as Luther (Tom Hopper) later puts it,...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Season 2 of “The Umbrella Academy.”)
The first two seasons of Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy” saw the super-powered Hargreeves siblings fighting against an apocalypse they themselves had caused. But with the season finale’s jump to yet another timeline where they don’t seem to have ever existed, will their bad luck streak continue?
According to showrunner Steve Blackman, the answer is probably yes.
“They’re terrible for the world because they’re so dysfunctional as a family,” Blackman said in an interview with TheWrap. “These guys can’t get it right, both in their relationships with each other and as superheroes. But I think they’re getting a little bit better, and hopefully if we’re lucky enough to get a Season 3, they will improve slightly.”

There aren’t a lot of shows with the ratings history of Heroes that would spawn a revival/respawn/sequel. While the show launched to huge ratings, and had an impressive first season, it continually declined for the rest of its run, ultimately falling far enough that by the fourth season it wasn’t any surprise that the show was going.
Apart from the pure ratings approach to popularity, there was something of a backlash before long, and though a solid base of fans complained when the show left, it wasn’t in the pop culture spotlight.
Now, after some 8 years have gone, the show returns with Heroes Reborn.
It isn’t quite the next greatest thing, mostly because it has too much to do, and there’s no way to fit it all in, but it isn’t going to disappoint fans, and it balances the mystery with the...

The definitive winner this summer, as far as I'm concerned, is USA's Suits. Already picked up for another season, the legal drama starring Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht won over fans immediately. As young genius Mike Ross, and legal powerhouse Harvey Specter, the pair have delivered time and again, as the show details their curious relationship, the firm's inner turmoil, and a variety of interesting and offbeat cases.
The show has given us a great balance of character study and episodic treatment, and the result has been a growing, devoted fanbase.
Not only has the show given us great episodes, and a dynamic duo to grip us, but the supporting cast is better than the main players are most offerings. Chief among the show's standouts is Rick Hoffman, who gives us a wonderful turn as the shady-ish Louis, another partner in the firm,...

I'm actually really psyched about the return of Nikita on January 27. I've been impressed with the first half of the season and have been enjoying a show that's not The CW's usual fare. When we last saw a new episode at the tail end of 2010, Thom had been framed as the mole inside Division and Alex had accidentally killed him, which allowed her to graduate from the training program.
On January 27 we'll see Alex outside and on her own, set up in a nice apartment and carrying out assignments for Percy and Michael. But now that she's on the outside, she'll have a lot more free time to spend with Nikita, trying to take Division down. Below are two promos and photos for the January 27 new episode of Nikita.
Nikita Helps Alex Adjust To Life As An Agent
Now an agent, Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca) gets a new apartment and is given a cover job.

Every single week I watch Nikita and I desperately try to recognize the locations from Toronto. It shouldn’t be too hard, I’ve lived in this city for years, and I’ve walked by the trailers filming downtown several times, but I don’t recognize anything. Except for the University of Toronto’s Convocation Hall in the pilot (the round building where Nikita went to the party). Random trivia: that building also appeared in The Skulls. Anyways, if there’s any other Toronto folks out there who watch the show, point out some of the locations to me in the comments below.
There won’t be a new episode of Nikita this week, but new episodes will return on October 21. Check out promo photos and a synopsis for that episode below. You can also view a trailer we previously posted.
