The Black Dahlia Murder have announced their 10th studio album, Servitude, arriving September 27th. In advance of its release, the band has unleashed the single “Aftermath.”
Servitude marks the melodic death metal act’s first album following the tragic death of frontman Trevor Strnad in 2022. The LP features lead vocals by founding guitarist Brian Eschbach, who took over as singer when The Black Dahlia Murder decided to continue on as a band several months following Strnad’s passing. Their lineup is rounded out by bassist Max Lavelle, drummer Alan Cassidy, lead guitarist Brandon Ellis, and rhythm guitarist Ryan Knight (a former member who rejoined the band when Eschbach moved over the lead vocals).
“Everyone that’s in the band now is someone that Trevor and I searched for,” Eschbach says. “We spent so much time on the road together that everyone understands the mission statement. We don’t really need to talk about it.

Dennis Lyxzén, the frontman of legendary Swedish hardcore band Refused, suffered a major heart attack on Thursday morning (June 13th). The 51-year-old singer reported the news via his Instagram page, along with sharing a photo of himself on a hospital bed.
“So this morning I had a massive heart attack at my hotel room,” began Lyxzén. “It was extremely painful and wildly scary. Thanks the the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Uppsala hospital I’m still around to fight another day. Under the circumstances I feel ok. Sore and tired and really shook up.”
He continued, “I real really hate cancelling show but the doctor said no rock for a couple of weeks. Which means that the @refused show at @rosendalgardenparty is not happening. A complete bummer as I was really looking forward to it. But hopefully I/we will be able to make up to you soon.”

System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian has unveiled his new band, Seven Hours After Violet, along with their debut single, “Paradise” (stream below).
In addition to Odadjian, Seven Hours After Violet are comprised of singer Taylor Barber (Left to Suffer), guitarist Morgoth, singer-guitarist Alejandro Aranda, and drummer Josh Johnson (Winds of Plague).
Regarding the single “Paradise,” Odadjian stated, “The song opens the album and showcases the various dynamics we explore throughout which makes it the perfect introduction to Seven Hours After Violet. I’ve been making music for over 30 years, I wanted to do something super heavy, but melodic and come back to my roots. Until this band, every side project I’ve done has been outside of the walls of heavy music.”
He continued, “I steered away from anything heavy because System of a Down is heavy. Once I started with Seven Hours After Violet, I had to let go of that.

Alice Cooper has launched his latest campaign for president of the United States, declaring his candidacy for the 2024 election. Before you get too excited at the prospect of the shock rocker taking over the Oval Office, he has satirically run for president every four years since 1972.
At 76 years old, Cooper would be the youngster among current candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump. He’d also be the only Rock & Roll Hall of Famer among the three.

Cooper launched his first campaign in 1972 upon the release of his now-classic single “Elected,” on which he sings, “I’m your top prime cut of meat, I’m your choice/ I wanna be elected/ I’m your yankee doodle dandy in a gold Rolls Royce/ I wanna be elected.”
For his 2024 platform, he declares in a just-released campaign video, “Well, I’m Alice Cooper and I’m a troubled man for troubled times.

Bon Jovi surprised fans with a five-song set at the grand opening of frontman Jon Bon Jovi’s new bar in Nashville. It marked a rare performance for the band, as the singer’s vocal issues have kept the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame act from touring for the past couple years.
Jbj’s Nashville, a five-story restaurant and bar with two outdoor rooftops, opened on Saturday (June 8th). Bon Jovi gave the attendees a thrill when they appeared for the unannounced performance.
The band kicked things off with “Blood on Blood” from 1988’s New Jersey album, and followed with “We Weren’t Born to Follow,” mega-hit “You Give Love a Bad Name,” and “Born to Be My Baby.” The set closed with recent single “Legendary” from the new album Forever.

Danny Carey sported a new look during Tool’s recent show (June 5th) in Paris, as the drummer wore a form-fitting glow-in-the-dark bodysuit in the style of artist Alex Grey’s “Psychic Energy System” artwork.
Grey is a longtime Tool collaborator, having designed the artwork for Lateralus and 10,000 Days. Carey’s bodysuit was created by Jacob Roanhaus, who also fabricated a similar suit showing a muscular system akin to the Lateralus album cover that Carey sported a few months ago.
Tool shared a brief video of Carey performing in the “Psychic Energy System” suit on Instagram, with fans commenting that the outfit reminded them of Marvel’s Thanos and Infinity Stones, and others remarking that it had a Tron vibe. However, as seen below, it appears to be a direct homage to Grey’s 1980 Psychic Energy System painting, which falls more in line with the chakra system.

The folks at Drumeo really put drumming sensation Nandi Bushell to the test when she stopped by for a series of video segments. In the latest clip to be unveiled from the session, the young teenager was tasked with playing along to the Dio classic “Holy Diver” as she heard it for the first time (minus the drum track).
We previously saw Nandi nail Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” as part of the same “For the First Time” series, but “Holy Diver” definitely presented her with a more difficult challenge.
The video shows Nandi struggling during her first take, with host Brandon Toews asking her, “What would you say is the hardest part about learning this song, ” to which Nandi replied, “That I’ve made it difficult for myself.”
Nandi added a number of fills to her version of the drums, saying, “I do that Neil Peart style.

Each category — College (Division 1), College (Divisions 2 & 3), High School (Large), High School (Medium) and High School (Small) — will now be awarded first, second and third place prizes, with the first place winners in each field selected by Metallica themselves. A fan-favorite vote will determine an additional winner.

Roughly a year ago, acclaimed singer-songwriter Jesse Malin was paralyzed from the waist down when he suffered a spinal stroke. Robert plays the song’s iconic guitar licks while Toyah sings and dances seductively around her husband. It all culminates with Toyah slowly licking the side of Robert’s face.

Mike Portnoy is no doubt one of metal’s greatest drummers of all time, as he’s proven over the past four decades with prog titans Dream Theater and multiple other projects. However, even the most accomplished drummers have a hard time attempting Danny Carey’s drum parts in Tool’s music.
In a new video from Drumeo, Portnoy — who recently rejoined Dream Theater after a 13-year absence — was challenged to play Tool’s “Pneuma” from the 2019 album Fear Inoculum.
As Drumeo’s YouTube description declares, “Watch as drumming legend Mike Portnoy attempts the impossible task of learning Tool’s 12-minute masterpiece – ‘Pneuma.’ … How will Mike go about learning this insane drum part? How does he crack the ‘code’ of the song? Tune in to find out and watch Mike learn one of the most challenging drum parts ever created over the course of a Drumeo session lasting nearly six hours.

Guitarist Dave Navarro was back playing with Jane’s Addiction at London’s Bush Hall on Thursday (May 23rd), marking his return to the stage after a battle with long Covid kept him sidelined for a few years.
In 2022, original bassist Eric Avery rejoined the legendary alt-rock band after more than a decade away, but with Navarro sitting out, it prevented a reunion of the classic Jane’s Addiction lineup. Queens of the Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen and former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer had filled in the past couple years.

On Thursday night, Navarro, Avery, singer Perry Farrell, and drummer Stephen Perkins played their first show together since 2010.
In addition to Navarro’s return, the concert featured the debut of a new song called “Imminent Redemption.” The band also played “True Love,” another new tune that they unveiled in concert last year.

Bring Me the Horizon have unleashed the new album Post Human: NeX GEn, only letting fans know it was coming just hours before its release. The LP marks the UK band’s first full-length in five years.

Rockbottom, which is available to purchase ($9.99) or rent ($4.99) now via Prime Video, centers around a fictional band called CougarSnake, a forgotten ’80s glam-metal act who get a shout out from present-day Gen Z music star Bryce Cooper (played by 13 Reasons Why actor Brandon Butler).
The mention by Cooper sets off a frenzy, leading CougarSnake bassist Jesse (Tom Everett Scott) to revive the band. When the veteran act’s lead singer is hospitalized, CougarSnake seek out a new singer. Enter Jake Bongiovi’s character Justin, a pizza delivery driver with a powerhouse voice.
Of course, Jake’s dad made his name in an ’80s hair band, so we’re guessing he may have gotten some tips along the way. On top of that, Jake...

Serj Tankian has unleashed the solo single “A.F. Day,” a song that he had hoped to record with System of a Down during the band’s early days. The track will appear on the singer’s upcoming EP, Foundations, due this fall.
“This is a song I wrote in the early days of Soad that I never released,” stated Tankian of the the tune. “The majority of the instrumentation and vocals are recordings from that time. Dystopian in mood, it’s a reflection of the angst and anti-authoritarian attitude I had to conformity.”
“A.F. Day” (short for “Another Fucking Day”) features Tankian in full scream mode during the chorus, and would fit right into the System of a Down catalog both musically and lyrically. The song includes lines like, “Why do religions require from their faithful blind and questioning servitude?/ If thy path is so righteous, then why...

Ministry went back to their synth-pop roots at the Cruel World festival at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on Saturday (May 11th), playing some songs they haven’t performed in 40 years.
On a bill featuring legendary new wave bands like Duran Duran and Blondie, frontman Al Jourgensen and company set aside their blistering brand of industrial metal for the day. Instead, they primarily culled their set from their first two albums: 1983’s With Sympathy and 1986’s Twitch.

For this performance, Ministry turned into a 13-piece band with backing vocals and strings provided by the “Ministrettes’ and “Ministrings,” respectively. Among the other added musicians was...

A 24-year-old concertgoer by the name of Bird Piché suffered “catastrophic spinal injuries” after Trophy Eyes singer John Floreani dove into the crowd during the Australian punk band’s show at Mohawk Place in Buffalo, New York, on Tuesday (April 30th).

Following the Paramount+ premiere of the new Wolfgang Van Halen episode of Behind the Music on Thursday (May 2nd), his mom, Valerie Bertinelli, has opened up about her tumultuous marriage to Eddie Van Halen. The actress posted a video on Instagram, admitting that she had turned her relationship with the late rock star into “some sort of fantasy, soulmate recreation of history.”
“I was finally able to watch Wolfie’s Behind the Music,” began Bertinelli. “It was not easy. I’d stopped it many times because it was just too brutal to watch for many reasons. One, seeing Wolfie’s pain. Two, seeing what a better job I could have done as a parent even though he turned out magnificently. I made a lot of mistakes.”

Jet frontman Nic Cester revealed in a recent interview that he auditioned to be the singer of AC/DC in 2016. The job eventually went to Axl Rose, but Cester has quite a story to tell his grandkids one day.
Twenty years ago, Jet were the hottest rock export out of Australia, with hits like “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” and “Cold Hard Bitch” featuring a sound that melded the power of fellow Aussies AC/DC with the garage-rock stylings of The White Stripes.

Duane Eddy, the legendary guitarist who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, has passed away at the age of 86. He died of cancer on Tuesday (April 30th), surrounded by family members at Williamson Health hospital in Franklin, Tennessee.
Eddy is considered the most commercially successful instrumental musician in the history of rock ‘n’ roll, thanks in large part to his signature tunes like “Rebel-‘Rouser,” “Peter Gunn,” and “Because They’re Young.” By 1963, he had sold an estimated 12 million records.

Lyrically, the song is one of defiance, with lines like, “Don’t let the dogs of war/ Come knocking at your door/ As we’re crawling ‘cross the floor/ They’ll make your skin crawl/ They’ll make the stars fall/ Do they matter after all.”
