Six months after its freshman season ended, we now have a verdict about Criminal Record‘s fate: The crime thriller will be back for Season 2 at Apple TV+, TVLine has learned.

We meet Queenie Jenkins under extremely intimate conditions in the first episode of Queenie. She’s in a hospital bed, getting a pelvic exam, while her voiceover narration talks us through recent problems at work, a fight with her boyfriend Tom, and the other challenges of her life as a self-described “loud, brash, sassy, confrontational, bitchy” British-Jamaican woman in her mid-20s. As more and more doctors gather to study an unusual test result, Queenie’s inner monologue suggests that they should call over the janitor while they’re at it.

The world of “Star Wars” is expanding yet again. This week marks the debut of “The Acolyte,” an eight-episode drama that, like “Andor” before it, breathes new life into a world that is perhaps even more familiar than our own at times. The series, the first two episodes of which are now streaming on Disney+, is set 100 years before the rise of the Empire and tells an original story that is full of action and hints at more sinister forces at work in the universe.
Emmy Award winner Lee Jung-jae leads the cast as Sol, an experienced Jedi Master who reunites with Osha (Amandla Stenberg), his former Padawan who left the Order years before, to stop her long-lost twin from using the dark side of the Force to kill the Jedi she believes are responsible for the tragedy that ripped their family apart. Candice Carty-Williams’ 2019 novel Queenie was touted as the “Black Bridget Jones,” and the Hulu adaptation paid homage to that in its Friday debut, which saw the titular character grapple with a deeply personal issue while navigating life as normal. (All eight episodes are now streaming.)
Like Bridget Jones’ self-deprecating heroine, we were introduced to Queenie (played by Dionne Brown) via a frank voiceover narration that served as her inner monologue, sharing with viewers the thoughts she wouldn’t dare speak out loud. In this case, her regret at not getting waxed before an ultrasound.

Spoiler Alert! The following reveals major plot points for Season 1 of Hulu’s Queenie.
Best-selling author Candice Carty-Williams met with 15 production companies to discuss adapting her book Queenie before the award-winning novel was even published.
She wasn’t much older than her titular heroine’s age when she partnered with Lionsgate and it would be six more years before she completed her team with the addition of Channel 4 and Onyx Collective. Their 8-episode collaboration is available to stream now via Hulu.
Across Season 1, Queenie (Dionne Brown) comes to terms with her upbringing in a Jamaican British family that raised her to be strong and to avoid tough emotions. So when her boyfriend Tom (Jon Pointing) wants to take a clean break from their relationship, Queenie spirals. She resorts to finding other men who don’t treat her well while past trauma resurfaces forcing her to face her demons in therapy.

Candice Carty-Williams’ best-selling novel Queenie is taking its rightful place among some of TV’s top literary takes in Hulu‘s eight-episode adaptation, overseen by the author herself. That is one royal glow-up. “Queenie was the first thing I’d written ever and people had seen,” notes Carty-Williams. “So it was really amazing to be like, ‘Okay, cool, I was 25 then….so what’s it like when you are 27 and you are doing script? And then to sort of start showrunning it at 33?’ It was three different stages of my life and three different versions of Candys. And so it was kind of amazing to be able to retouch your work when you are older and hopefully smarter.” Latoya Okuneye/Lionsgate Telling the tale of Queenie Jenkins (Criminal Record‘s Dionne Brown), a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman living in south London who begins to spiral after a messy breakup with her long-term boyfriend,...

When Tom (Jon Pointing) dumps her in the premiere, Queenie (Dionne Brown) is taken aback. So much so, it takes her hours to realize that’s what’s happened, and weeks more to understand that he’s not coming back. What doesn’t surprise her, however, is his reasoning. “You’re too much, Queenie,” he sighs. “And there it is,” she thinks.
But if Tom fails to cherish her flaws and all, Queenie very much does. The most charming thing about the half-hour Hulu drama is how much care and compassion it holds for its heroine, no matter how disastrous or self-destructive her choices get — or how occasionally uneven its storytelling becomes.
And things do spiral quickly. Over eight episodes, Queenie makes one ill-advised decision after another in her attempt to move past heartbreak. She drinks too much to blunt her feelings. She has a bunch of gross, unsatisfying sex,...

Starring Dionne Brown as the twenty-five-year-old British Jamaican protagonist, Queenie is based on Candice Carty-Williams’ novel that goes by the same name. Queenie struggled to navigate through her mid-twenties—she tended to bottle her emotions, and that affected her present relationship, and she had too many unresolved issues that she had to deal with but chose to ignore. Queenie was somewhat happy in her relationship with Tom, but she could not ignore the fact that they had their own set of differences. Queenie was working as a social media assistant at a newspaper company, but she was not happy with her job. Every day she pitched a topic she was passionate about to her editor, and she always rejected her ideas. She wanted to speak about issues related to her community, but the newspaper was clearly not ready for a strong voice. Queenie’s life spiraled out of control when...

Book readers who are pessimistic about TV adaptations have nothing to fear from Hulu’s adaptation of Queenie. The British series, based on the novel of the same name by Candice Carty-Williams, tells the tale of South London Gen Z-er and budding journalist Queenie Jenkins (Dionne Brown) as she deals with her love life and trauma, and a tendency to self-sabotage.
Queenie is a smart, funny series that offers a brilliant commentary on love and friendship. Carty-Williams, who also serves as showrunner and writer, brings a fresh vision to the table that feels quietly revolutionary. The awkward Black girl experience is portrayed so genuinely — it’s sexy and heartwarming, but with a brimming tension under the sex comedy, which builds quickly.

When Peter Capaldi flickers into view on the Zoom call, I half expect him to tell me to “F** Off!”
For TV viewers of a certain age, the 65-year-old Scottish actor will forever be Malcolm Tucker, the supremely sweary spin doctor in Armando Iannucci’s pre-Veep Brit political satire The Thick of It.
“It’s The Thick of It and Doctor Who,” says a charming (and clean-mouthed) Capaldi, about the roles he’s most recognized for (he played the twelfth incarnation of the Doctor in the cult sci-fi series from 2013 to 2017). “Surprisingly, The Thick of It is still incredibly popular [the series wrapped in 2012]. People, generally very cool, smart young people, recognize me from that a lot. They generally just ask me to swear at them.”
Of course, there’s a lot more to Capaldi than Tucker and the Doctor. His scores of film and TV appearances include playing alongside Burt Lancaster in Bill Forsyth’s 1983 classic Local Hero,...

Griselda is ready for her close-up.
Today, Netflix unveiled the official trailer for its upcoming Sofia Vergara limited series, Griselda.
The six-part series will debut on Thursday, January 25, 2024.
Griselda is inspired by the life of the savvy and ambitious Griselda Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history.
In 1970s-80s Miami, Blanco's lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family, leading her to become widely known as "the Godmother."
This looks set to be a massive departure for Sofia Vergara, who was a lead on Modern Family before moving on to judge on America's Got Talent.
Vergara is also set to executive produce the series alongside Eric Newman and Andrés Baiz. Baiz is set to direct all six episodes.
