Exclusive: Producer Steve Whitney and his company Tsw Films have purchased Suge Knight’s life rights with plans to develop a biopic on the infamous music mogul, bringing Nick Cassavetes and Anthony Thorne aboard to write the script.
The former music exec born Marion Hugh “Suge” Knight Jr. co-founded the iconic label Death Row Records in 1991 and is credited with bringing the subgenre of gangsta rap into the mainstream. Artists signed to the label included Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog and Tupac Shakur—and those three acts alone changed the face of hip hop with the release of the groundbreaking albums The Chronic, Doggystyle and All Eyez on Me. Knight’s label had enormous success with over 50 artists and profits of over $100 million a year, but fell into bankruptcy after the departure of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog, the murder of Tupac and the 2018 incarceration of Knight on charges of voluntary manslaughter.

Harriett Tendler was 18, the only child of a widowed Jewish farmer, when she enrolled at the Bessie V. Hicks School of Stage, Screen, and Radio in Philadelphia in 1947. It was there she fell in love with Charles Buchinsky, a fellow student eight years her senior. Charles was part of a large Lithuanian family from an impoverished coal mining town in Pennsylvania. He had served in WWII as a tail gunner and was using the GI bill to study art and acting. Harriett and Charles were married in 1949 and two years later, Charles was cast in his first film. In 1953 he changed his last name to Bronson and found work as a solid character actor with a rugged face, muscular physique and everyman ethnicity that kept him busy in supporting roles as indians, convicts, cowboys, boxers, and gangsters. Life was good for the Bronsons and they had a daughter and then a son.

About a year ago, this site broke the news that Tobe Hooper was developing a remake of the 1932 film White Zombie , starring Bela Lugosi. During my conversation with Hooper recently, as we looked back at the making of The Funhouse , I questioned him about the status of the redo. He lamented the project's demise. A case of it not coming together due to "rights issues." "It was really heartbreaking," admits screenwriter Jared Rivet, the man behind-the-scenes with Hooper during White Zombie 's development. "The movie is clearly public domain, but there were question marks about uncredited source material. Tobe and I had been working with [producers] Mike Menchel and Steve Whitney to get that made for two years. I wrote the script on spec working...

Tobe Hooper ( The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ) may be revisiting the 1932 classic White Zombie , which starred Bela Lugosi. That's what sources have been telling me for the last month. The original, directed by Victor Halperin, tells of a botched attempt on a young man's behalf to lure a woman he desires away from her fiance. She dies and is resurrected as a "zombie." Garnett Weston penned the script. Upon revisiting the press notes for The Haunting in Connecticut , I discovered they state Steve Whitney is producing the update. His credits include Tamara and Borderland . More info as it comes!
