A couple months ago, we heard that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of the slasher sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer by giving the film a 4K release, just like they did for its predecessor I Know What You Did Last Summer last year. Now we’ve learned that the unpopular trilogy capper I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it Here) will also be getting a new release on the same day I Still Know reaches 4K (September 26th) – but this will be a Blu-ray release instead of 4K.
Directed by Sylvain White (who replaced Damon Santostefano two weeks before filming began) from a screenplay written by Michael D. Weiss, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer is about a group of small town teens who accidentally kill a fellow friend in a 4th of July prank.

Talk about reviving a franchise from the grave! Twenty-six years (26!) after Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1996 action film Eraser comes a franchise reboot featuring none of the original cast and with two veterans of franchise reboots and Dtv sequels at the helm, director John Pogue and writer Michael D. Weiss. Yet whilst both filmmakers have experience in reboots and sequels they also have some other fantastic movies under their belts – Pogue wrote all Three of The Skulls movies (the second being a personal favourite) and Weiss penned some classic Dtv movies that went on to be staples of the early days of budget DVDs – Octopus and it’s sequel, Crocodile and US Seals 2… Yes, Eraser: Reborn has quite the pedigree.

Hostel: Part III

High stakes gambling takes on a whole new meaning as Hostel Part III, the third film in the Hostel franchise, takes the story from the wilds of the Eastern block to the gambling capital of the world – Las Vegas, as four friends in town for a bachelor party are invited to a private soiree by a pair of sexy strippers. Only the party isn’t quite what the four expected as they’re subjected to a perverse game of torture, where members of Hostel’s infamous “Elite Hunting Club” put on a sadistic show for those wanting a little more “thrill” to their gambling.
The Hostel franchise has always been one to divide audiences – there are those that relish in the gore and...

When the recipe calls for "torture porn," Eli Roth seems to be the first go-to name on everyone's list due to his work with the Hostel franchise.
Though it is a film full of gratuitous nudity, ultraviolent gore and unflinching profanity that has garnered a lot of flack from critics over the years, I still enjoyed the first Hostel enough to check out the sequels and bear the crosses of their disappointments. The idea of going backpacking in Europe and being kidnapped by hostile foreigners is a really clever and frightening concept; part of the effectiveness of the original two films was the forbidding, unfamiliar terrain of eastern Europe, where the government is lax and the people can get away with murder.
When I saw the trailer for Hostel 3, I wasn't overly impressed.

Hostel: Part III is the latest in a franchise that was labelled "torture porn," by one reviewer. There is less torture in this second sequel and more prostitutes, double-dealings and betting on murder instead. To release on DVD December 27th, Hostel: Part III is a fun time spent in Las Vegas with four friends out to have fun. Well, one friend is out for murder, but three out of four searching for good times is not bad. A tense thriller, this latest picture will satisfy most horror fans while those searching for "torture porn" will be left saying: "where is the bloody beef?"

Well, it looks like Slovakia isn't the only stomping ground for the the sadistic and very wealthy patrons of Elite Hunting: this December, Hostel is making its way to Vegas in Hostel III, and we've got the trailer for the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray release. The apparently very busy Eli Roth has handed directing duties over to Scott Spiegel who's done a lot of this and that over the last 30 years, with a screenplay by Michael D. Weiss, who's no stranger to Dtv horror sequels. Here's the synopsis: High stakes gambling takes on a sinister new meaning in this third chapter of the terrifying Hostel series. Director Eli Roth's 'Hostel' was one of the early films after the original 'Saw' that helped to define a horror sub genre that critics would scornfully dub "torture porn." The film and its sequel both featured Americans taking refuge at foreign hostels and coming across unsavory characters who want nothing more than to pull their fingernails off. Because of the name recognition, a third straight-to-video 'Hostel' is on its way. Roth is not involved, not even as producer, and the setting of Las Vegas doesn't look to fall in line with the theme of predators using hostels as their hunting ground. Here's the official synopsis: "High stakes gambling takes on a sinister new meaning in this third chapter of the terrifying Hostel series. While attending a bachelor party in Las Vegas, four friends are enticed by two sexy escorts to join them at a private party way off the Strip.

December 27th will see the DVD and Digital release of Hostel 3 through Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Eli Roth is no longer at the helm, instead Scott Spiegel has moved up from his Executive Producer status on the first two movies to take the director’s chair on this second sequel. If you’ve seen his 1989 movie Intruder, which is set for a Blu-ray release also in December and we covered here, then you will know that he is not a man to shy away from spreading a little claret across the screen. The action has also been moved away from Eastern Europe and dropped into the glitz that is Las Vegas. So just remember boys and girls that whatever happens in Vegas is bound to be very, very painful.

I've never been a big fan of the Hostel films, but I know there are a lot of people that love watching people being brutally tortured. Just so you know Hostel creator Eli Roth had nothing to do with this third film. Hostel III was directed by Scott Spiegel from a screenplay by Michael D. Weiss. I don't think I'll be watching the movie, I'm not feeling lucky with it.

The filthy rich spend exorbitant amounts of money to torture and murder innocent victims. Not only is the premise of the Hostel movies clever and evil, it's also a not-so-subtle social commentary on haves and have-nots. In the first two films of the series, both directed by Eli Roth, that commentary had a European setting. The third film brings it home. Hostel Part III, directed by Scott Spiegel and written by Michael D. Weiss, starts Kip Pardue, Thomas Kretschmann and others in the story of two friends in Las Vegas who unwillingly pay a visit to the Elite Hunting Club. It's scheduled for a direct-to-dvd release December 27. Watch the trailer and see the DVD art after the jump. Thanks to Bloody Disgusting [1] for all these materials. If there's one thing director Eli Roth has taught audiences with Hostel and Hostel Part II, it's to be aware when traveling abroad. Bloody-Disgusting reports that Hostel Part III will bring the terror to the homeland — Las Vegas to be exact — where a bachelor party goes horribly wrong (it'll be like The Hangover, only with the possibility of decapitation).

The players: Director: Eric Brevig, Writers: Gavin Scott, Michael D. Weiss, Cast: Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutcherson, Anita Briem
Facts of interest: First 3-D live action movie using RealD technology.
The plot: A geology professor and his nephew discover a world inside the world during an expedition in Iceland.
Our quick thoughts: Eric Brevig’s new take on Jules Verne’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth” is not exactly breaking new ground in terms of story line or character development, but the RealD technology the film uses to pull audiences straight into the middle of the action is definitely worth a trip to the theater. If you really want to enjoy this adventure to the fullest extent, I highly suggest you see it in 3-D, because that’s pretty much the only thing the flick has going for it.
