When I think of the sitcoms that raised me, I don’t usually think of “Smart Guy,” and for that I am sorry.
“Smart Guy” often gets lost in the pantheon of sitcom lore, eclipsed by decades of long-running predecessors like “Full House,” “Fresh Prince,” and more. Created by Danny Kallis, the series stars Tahj Mowry as T.J. Henderson, a 10-year-old genius who skips from fourth to tenth grade and has to navigate high school with older kids — including his two siblings. It ran from 1997 to 1999 on the WB and aired reruns on the Disney Channel until 2003.
That’s when I and many other young millennials found the exceptional series. “Smart Guy” became the foundation of my sitcom education in tandem with “Boy Meets World,” a post-school package deal viewing (usually with my dad sharing the couch). In the years that followed, “Boy” moved to ABC Family, but “Smart Guy...

Exclusive: Production on the upcoming fourth season of Showtime’s The Chi has been suspended for a week following a positive Covid-19 test, Deadline has learned.
Temporary production shutdowns have become the norm while filming during the pandemic, and TV studios, including Disney TV Studios’ 20th Television, which is behind The Chi, all have rigorous protocols and procedures in place that have proven effective as TV sets have remained safe even when the country was in the grips of a major third wave of infection this past winter.
Showtime this past week set a May 23 premiere date for Season 4 of The Chi, which shoots in Chicago.
Created and executive produced by Emmy winner Lena Waithe, The Chi is a coming-of-age drama, centered on a group of residents on Chicago’s South Side who bond deeply, after connecting by coincidence.

The original The Lion King movie is packed to the brim with quotable, memorable moments that every '90s kid knows by heart. The catchiest of them all, of course, is "Hakuna Matata," Timon and Pumbaa's peppy, hilarious ode to the worry-free life. The characters claim that the phrase "means no worries for the rest of your days," and they're actually right!
The lyric "hakuna matata" is a Swahili phrase, and it really does translate as "no worries!" According to a bonus feature on a special edition DVD of the original animated The Lion King, the creative team reportedly heard the phrase from a safari guide in Kenya while on a trip to do research. The pronunciation, however, is different in the movie than it is in Swahili (the "T" sound is apparently the key difference). The phrase intrigued the team for its opposition to the themes of royal responsibility...

Hey, here's something that will make you feel old! The Lion King is turning 20 on Sunday. The Disney masterpiece roared (shh, let us have that one) into theaters on June 15, 1994, where it would "Hakuna Matata" its way to becoming the second highest-grossing film of the year, earning an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and two Grammys in the process. Although The Lion King is now seen as a centerpiece of Disney's so-called Renaissance period, it had modest origins, and even those involved on the project believed it would be a tough sell. "The pitch for the story was a lion...
