Exclusive: Jack Black has boarded Gianna, a horror comedy short written, produced by and starring his School of Rock co-star Rivkah Reyes, as an associate producer.
Also starring Emmy nominee Margaret Cho (Fire Island) and Elizabeth Faith Ludlow (Peacemaker), the film follows the newly sober and recently single Gina (Reyes), who is faced with the literal devil herself, after her sliding-scale therapist (Cho) suggests spending time with her inner demons. Kait Schuster served as director, with Jarad Schwartz and Brando Crawford among the EPs on the short, which premieres at Inside Out Festival and will also play the Palm Springs Shorts Festival.
“I loved the perfectly twisted queerness of the story and script and I had to get involved,” said Cho of the project. “Rivkah is The Gay Future!!!!!”

Holger Rune is fighting against Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinal at the 2023 Italian Open in Rome and he's very angry with umpire Mohamed Lahyani.
In the sixth game of the second set, the young Dane was down 2-3, but he was leading 40-30 on his serve as he had a game point. After one of Djokovic's strokes, Rune stopped the play, signalizing that the ball was out.
Umpire Lahyani, with who Rune had an argument last year already, went to check the ball mark and according to his opinion, it was in, resulting in a point for Djokovic. However, as the replay showed, the ball was out and the 20-year-old should have won the point.
He subsequently lost the game, resulting in a one-break advantage for his opponent. But it's not the first time that we saw a mistake from an umpire during this clay-court season. It was Lahyani who...

A Worthy Companion takes a fresh and new perspective that explores the complexity and humanity within the predator, victim relationship. This film questions how we perpetuate manipulative power dynamics between adult and child through the inner struggle of our female protagonists.

And this season started out so well. It's so immensely frustrating to have such rich potential squandered so badly, as in Grimm Season 6 Episode 6.
Unfortunately, this episode was really quite disappointing on a number of levels that I was literally left wondering what in the world I was just watching. Oi.
I will refrain from complaining any more about squandering what little time is left on Grimm's clock with another Monster-of-the-Week story and instead spend my time on the episode itself.
Perhaps the writers were going for some sort of tragic monster with the Alpe, in the same vein as the Spinnetod from Grimm Season 1 Episode 11, which had to feed on people to survive.
Unfortunately, this fell utterly flat. For one thing, the Alpe was described as feeding on melatonin, a sleep-regulating hormone... which is easily available over the counter in the United States!

Everton were busy in this year’s summer transfer market, spending almost £40M and smashing their transfer record in the process as Roberto Martinez looks to build on his side’s superb effort of finishing 5th last season.
The Blues failed to sign Tom Cleverly from Manchester United on transfer deadline day as the midfielder chose to join Aston Villa instead, and late bids for Danny Welbeck, Ryan Shawcross and Columbian midfielder Carlos Sanchez all failed, with the latter joining Villa as well.
Regardless of that, some good business was done. Martinez has certainly had the transfer funds that David Moyes did not receive at the club and looks set rival the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur for a Champions League spot.

Date: Saturday 23rd August
Competition: Premier league
Venue: Villa Park
Kick-Off: 12:45
Head-to-head League Record: Aston Villa wins 7, Newcastle wins 8, draws 6.
The opening game of the Premier League weekend pits Paul Lambert’s Villains against Alan Pardew’s Magpies at 12.45pm, with the latter looking to recover from their opening day loss to Man City.
Villa meanwhile won away at Stoke, thanks to an imperious defensive performance by new signings Aly Cissokho, Philippe Senderos and key man Ron Vlaar. If Newcastle want to come away happy it is that back line that will have to be broken down.
With Siem De Jong back in the squad and in contention for his debut, goals might come easier, but Newcastle still look a little light up front.
At the tail end of last season Newcastle lost five straight away games, and Pardew will be looking to turn that tide.

Mexican officials are considering further updates to the country’s current film incentives, a panel at London Mexfest reveals.
The ProAV incentive launched six years ago has already seen a number of key changes this year, with smaller-budgeted films now able to access the funding as well as slates or bundles of films able to apply. For the bundles, the lead producers can be different but the same Mexican production company has to be working on all of them.
ProAV offers cash rebate of 7.5% of all expenses in Mexico below the line (international producers can also get their Vat returned, so that savings can be up to 17.5%). Digital work, including animation and VFX, can start with the funding at $700,000 and film productions at about $3m. (More details of the current incentives can be found here and here.)
Jorge Sanchez, director of the Mexican Film Institute (Imcine), said the launch of London Mexfest yesterday: “It’s time to...

The Glades Season 4 gets underway tonight on A&E, with Matt Passmore's Jim Longworth fighting crime in the Florida Everglades with his signature grin and sarcasm intact.
But will his romance with Callie (Kiele Sanchez) thrive after the marriage proposal at the end of last season? And what did the actors tease about strippers and zombies (?!?) being a part of the new season?
I ventured to the show’s set in Miami earlier this year to talk to the cast and was able to pull together 10 teases for the new season that could help make The Glades addition to your summer programming schedule...

Ready For marriage? “I think he thinks he is,” said Passmore, laughing on set. “For a guy that's always on the front foot, always fixes things, he's always the smartest guy in the room [but] you try that with the woman you love [and] you're gonna be...

The Glades: The Complete First Season
Stars: Matt Passmore, Michelle Hurd, Carlos Gómez, Kiele Sanchez, Jordan Wall | Created by Clifton Campbell
“Some say I don’t play well with others. I was a damned good detective in Chicago until a disagreement with my boss encouraged me to pack it up and make a change. So I put the Windy City in my rear view and headed to the Sunshine State to kick back, play some golf, work on my tan, maybe write the occasional speeding ticket. Yeah, well, that didn’t work out.”
The Glades is the latest TV show from prolific producer Clifton Campbell, a man who has been behind some of my favourite TV shows over the years – White Collar, Profiler and Wiseguy – and this show follows in very similar “cop show” traditions. The series is just quirky enough to compete with USA Network shows such as Psych and Burn Notice,...
