Alfre Woodard will return for the fifth season of HBO's True Blood, as Ruby Jean Reynolds, the schizophrenic mother of Lafayette (played by Nelsan Ellis). Fans of the series will know that her character was last seen in season 3, when she was a patient in a mental hospital, and under the care of Jesus (Kevin Alejandro), whose later romance with her son Lafayette, was nothing short of tragic. Woodard was nominated for a 2011 Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in True Blood. The 5th season of True Blood premieres on HBO on June 10 and on FX in the UK later this year.

With just over a week remaining until the return of True Blood, HBO has announced a mini-casting spoiler.
As first reported by Entertainment Weekly, Emmy Award winner Alfre Woodard will reprise her role as Ruby Jean Reynolds, the schizophrenic mother of Lafayette, on episodes five and six this summer.
The character was last seen during Season 3, where she served as a patient in a mental hospital and led to her son meeting Kevin Alejandro's Jesus, who worked as her nurse.
The major upcoming return, of course, is that of Russell Edgington. You can see the ancient vampire in action in this True Blood trailer, which sets the stage for the June 10 premiere.
You can also catch up on True Blood Season 4 via our complete section of episode guides and reviews.

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards are being held in the early hours of tomorrow morning, and so in the run-up to the ceremony, we thought we’d give you a run-down of this year’s nominees.
For those able to watch the show (which is also being shown on Five USA tomorrow night at 10), you can look forward to your host for the evening being Jane Lynch, best known for her role as Sue Sylvester in Glee.
And for those unacquainted with the awards, you can pretty much think of them as the television equivalent to the Oscars, with the Primetime Emmy Awards recognising the best talent in primetime television.
A few of the awards were already presented to the winners at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards last weekend, so I’ll do a summary of those categories first, followed by the nominees for tonight’s awards ceremony. There are...

For a while working "two days on 'Southland', two days on 'True Blood', and going back and forth between the two shows" was working out all right for actor Kevin Alejandro, but finally something had to give, and now he'll be devoting himself full-time to "True Blood" Season Four, aka the Season of the Witches.
In a chat with TVLine following Alejandro's final appearance on "Southland", which was rescued from cancellation by TNT after "True Blood" had already tapped the actor to portray Jesus, he explains that "I’m there [at HBO] all the time now. It would have been complicated [to stay at 'Southland']."

momlogic's Vivian: Actress Alfre Woodard has a list of accomplishments far longer than any slacker to-do lists. She's won four Emmys, three SAG awards and a Golden Globe, and also earned an Oscar nod. Oh -- and let's not forget the CableACE and Independent Spirit awards.

HBO has just released the synopsis for the August run of its vampire series "True Blood". As usual, elaborate in describing what happen to each of the characters, the episodic synopsis is considerably full of spoilers for those who prefer to be surprised.
The August 1 episode called "Hitting the Ground" is apparently progressive, but the next one which is called "Night on the Sun" seems like a game changer. [Spoiler Alert], award-winning actress Alfre Woodward will begin her story as Ruby Jean Reynolds aka Lafayette's mother in this August 8 episode and the same case happens to Lauren Bowles who is cast as the new Merlotte's waitress.
Things will build up from there and explode in the next episode where "Bill uncovers the truth about Sookie's true identity" and the Magister disappears. Meanwhile, over the course of two episodes, Jessica is known to have romanced both Tommy and her former flame Hoyt. But...

True Blood returns with its third season premiere tonight (read Jon's review) and E!Online has graciously provided four sneak peeks for our enjoyment.
True Blood kicks off its 12-episode third season Sunday, June 13 (9:00-10:00 p.m. Et/Pt), exclusively on HBO, followed by other new episodes on subsequent Sundays at the same time. Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, the show takes place in the not-too-distant future, when vampires have come out of the coffin, thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood that means they no longer need humans as a nutritional source. The show follows the romance between waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people’s thoughts, and her boyfriend, 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), who went missing at the end of season two last year, and is now the object of a frantic search. Hollywoodnews.com: There’s a slew of fresh faces in season 3 of “True Blood.”
So as not to get lost, here’s a rundown, courtesy of IO9.com.
Werewolves
Alcide Heveraux (Joe Manganiello). He’s been the most talked about werewolf character leading up to season 3. Who is Manganiello? He’s a 33-year old actor who has cut his teeth in acting, initially as Peter Parker’s (Tobey Maguire) nemesis Flash Thompson in “Spider-Man.” Also, Manganiello, played the best friend, Brad, to Jason Segel’s character in “How I Met Your Mother.” His alter-ego on “True Blood” is apparently the gentle werewolf who assists Sookie in her quest to find Bill. Apparently, he really gives her a tour of his hairy-moonlit world. Alcide also looks out for her. No word if a Bella-Jacob affair a la “Twilight” is in the works here. Alcide is also a member of the werewolf biker gang.

I've had a feeling that season 3 of True Blood will be the best yet, and this press release from HBO has convinced me that I was right. Looks like this season of True Blood is going to immerse itself in the sinewy Peyton Place-ish story lines of the books. Here are the descriptions for the first few episodes. Beware, some pretty significant spoilers below.
With Bon Temps still reeling from the Maenads’ reign of terror, Sookie Stackhouse begins her desperate quest for the whereabouts of Bill Compton, while her fellow townspeople face new threats that make their previous problems seem tame by comparison.

More than a dozen of "True Blood" images, taken from the third season, are brought forward. Not only giving previews to what happen to the major characters such as Sookie, Bill, Sam, Eric, Lafayette, Tara and Jessica, the stills also provide the first looks at the new characters.
Denis O'Hare's Russell Edgington aka King of Mississippi riding a horse is pictured separately from his gay lover, Theo Alexander's Talbot. King of Mississippi is to have a serious business with Queen Sophie-Ann. Meanwhile, Talbot has "acerbic sense of humor and loves to cook despite vampires' inherent lack of cooking talents."
Marshall Allman strikes a close resemblance to Sam Trammell to play his younger brother Tommy Mickens. Having no clue who Sam is, Tommy is a dirty but good looking youngster who works at a Tire Depot in Arkansas. There's also Tara's new love interest Vampire Franklin Mott who is played by James Frain.

Variety is reporting that HBO's hit vampire drama, True Blood, will return for its third season, 12 episodes in all, on June 13th. The series, based on the series of novels by Charlaine Harris, has proved to be a massive hit for HBO, drawing an average of over 12 million viewers per episode when video on demand, repeat telecast, and DVR numbers are all factored in. Only The Sopranos has drawn higher ratings for the premium cable channel. Additions to the cast this season include werewolf Joe Manganiello (Spiderman 3's Flash Thompson), Brit Morgan (The Middleman), and Kevin Alejandro (Southland) as a hospital orderly taking care of Ruby Jean Reynolds and who becomes involved with her son, Lafayette.

Welcome to your Monday morning television briefing... and welcome back to work (sorry!) and as 2010 gets underway. Kevin Alejandro has joined the ever-growing cast of True Blood.
The actor, who is still listed as a regular on Southland, will appear in almost every episode of the show's third season. He'll play Jesus, an orderly that takes care of Alfre Woodard's Ruby Jean Reynolds, while becoming involved with her son, Lafayette.
As that character's rumored boyfriend? It certainly sounds like it.
Southland recently moved from NBC to TNT. The cable network will all 13 completed episodes of the cop drama, starting January 12, before making a decision on its second season. Therefore, Alejandro can remain attached to both projects in the meantime.
The actor has also guest-starred on Weeds, Melrose Place and Ugly Betty.
He joins such other new True Blood additions as Denis O'Hare, Marshall Allman, Theo Alexander, Grant Bowler, Joe Manganiello and Lindsay Pulsipher on season three, scheuled to air this summer.

One more name is tossed into the "True Blood" bowl as one of the new characters in season 3. The casting directors have been looking for an actor to play a hot gay Latino named Jesus Velasquez and they have apparently found a match in Kevin Alejandro.
The 33-year-old actor will be a major character in the new season because Jesus is slated to be Lafayette's new love interest. Jesus is to take care of Ruby Jean Reynolds aka Lafayette's mother, who is played by award-winning actress Alfre Woodward, and becomes entangled in a relationship with him. No clue yet when he would start popping up on the show but THR said he would appear in almost every episode of the season.
Alejandro is one of the regulars on "Southland". The cop drama was canceled by NBC but had been picked up by TNT for a re-rerun of season 1 starting January...

It's a little bit funny, since one of Lafayette's most memorable lines this season had him observing, "Jesus and I agreed to see other people, don't mean we still don't talk time to...
