On the heels of her successful self-titled limited docuseries, Lifetime and A+E Networks has greenlit “Janet Jackson: Family First.”
Serving as a continuation of the story told with Janet’s 2022 documentary, the series will follow the singer, songwriter, producer, and actor, as she embarks on her 2023 “Together Again” tour, as well as her collaboration with brother Randy Jackson to reunite the family band after 40 years since their last performance. The series is currently filming.

Updated: Lifetime announced several projects during A+E Networks’ 2023-24 upfront presentation Wednesday, including a follow-up docu to Janet Jackson, its two-part documentary that scored record ratings for the network, as well as TLC Forever, a simulcast with A+E celebrating the story of the iconic top-selling female group. Additionally, the network has greenlighted a Keyshia Cole biopic, starring Cole as herself and is in development on Merry Liddle Christmas Vacation starring Kelly Rowland, in the next installment of the Liddles for It’s a Wonderful Lifetime.
They join previously announced Real Love, an original movie executive produced by Grammy winner Mary J. Blige inspired by her best-selling song.

NBC has ordered a reality series based on Mattel’s iconic Hot Wheels toys.
Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge is a described as a car makeover series where car fans will face off to transform an ordinary vehicle into a Hot Wheels showstopper, inspired by personal stories and pop culture touchstones, in a high-tech, decked-out garage.
The 10-episode series will be hosted by Rutledge Wood (Top Gear US), who will also serve as one of the show’s judges.

NBC has handed a series order to car makeover competition series Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge from Endemol Shine North America, Workerbee and Mattel Television.
The competition, which is based on the popular toy cars, will be hosted by Rutledge Wood, who will also serve as one of the judges. The 10-episode series gives Hot Wheels fans the opportunity to rebuild a nostalgic car from their past into a life-sized Hot Wheels creation.
In each episode, two contestants will face off. Their goal is to use personal stories and pop culture touchstones to transform their car into a Hot Wheels. They’ll receive help from a team of technicians known as “The Car Pool.” To raise the stakes of the competition, the show has thrown in a larger-than-life vending machine known as the the Inspirationator 5000 that will rev up in each episode to present the contestants with a twist in the road.

Oscar-winning director and producer Kevin Macdonald has struck a multi-project creative partnership with the Workerbee Group. Macdonald, whose credits include “One Day in September,” “Touching the Void” and “Marley,” is executive producing a major feature documentary for a streaming platform as the first element of his two-year Workerbee deal. Details are yet to be announced of the film or the other premium factual projects which are expected to include those he directs and executive produces.

Whitney director Kevin Macdonald has struck a multi-project deal with rebranded Banijay label Workerbee Group.
Macdonald, whose past credits include the celebrated Houston doc, Oscar winner One Day in September and Marley, will work closely with Workerbee’s new Films division to jointly identify premium unscripted projects to collaborate on.

He joins the firm, which Banijay Benelux runs as a Jv with producers Lea Fels and Isidoor Roebers, as Creative Producer. He will develop international stories and support other talent to fulfil their own doc plans.
Kaan directed the Idris Elba-narrated Human Playground, a six-part doc series Scenery co-produced with Banijay UK’s Workerbee about the origins and evolutions of the world’s most unique sports for Netflix internationally and Youku in China.
