Can you miss what you never really had?
That is a question Arrow‘s John Diggle will have to consider if he ever learns that before The Flash‘s Barry Allen tinkered with the events of the past, he and wife Lyla were the parents of a daughter, named Sara, and not tyke John Jr. aka J.J.

September 5 on MTV
What Is It? From the writer/directors behind the cult favorite “Josie and the Pussycats” adaptation, this series follows two “ganjapeneurs” who run a weed delivery service in Los Angeles.
I’ll Like It If I Like… The “Broad City” influence is pretty clear, as the show is focused on the tight friendship between Jordan (Scout Durwood) and Paige (Jessica Rothe) and their stoner antics.
Why Should I Care? Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont’s unique approach to satirizing La hipster culture really help this show stand out from the pack of other female-led comedies, while also promising a more surreal touch. Durwood and Rothe also make for an enjoyable pairing. For fans of the pot comedy genre, it’s an easy sell.

Alongside human components like relative newcomers John Boyega and Daisy Ridley, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens has one more new star in the making. Glimpsed in the trailers is the chirpy little "ball-droid" Bb-8, poised to become the R2-D2 for a new generation. "[It] stands almost singularly as a technical achievement that no one has yet matched," says Star Wars Creature Shop head Neal Scanlan.Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams has been a passionate advocate of practical effects wherever possible on the film, with Bb-8 a prime example of the model work and engineering wizardry that's been championed over and above CG animation this time out.The droid began life as a quick Abrams sketch. "J.J. wanted something rolling on a sphere," so I tried a lot of different designs developing that idea,” Concept Designer Christian Alzmann tells Lucasfilm's Dan Brooks. "He would give direction on the kinds of shapes to use,...

I’m not going to delude myself and think that we’re going to start a revolution, and that Urban Legends: Final Cut will somehow surpass Halloween as the better film. But just hear me out; it’s a much better film than people have ever given it credit to be.
I was surfing around Netflix and saw it had been added; I own the DVD but as is with our age of digital gratification I popped it on anyways. As the credits started I remembered back to when I first saw it. The year was 2000, and I was looking through the DVD selection at my local Ames; a chain long since extinct, and I spotted it. I didn’t even have internet at the time- (go ahead and judge), and had heard nothing about a sequel to Urban Legends. I bought it sight unseen after reading the description, for a modest $24.99. Yes,...

Cinephiles starving for footage from their most anticipated films are always on the look out for the latest trailers. Studios notice these things and in an effort to appease fans quickly while still generating hype for their films create teaser trailers. Teaser trailers can be painfully short sometimes (often being released before a movie has even finished filming), but they are almost always a treat to watch, so I've compiled some of the best teasers to have come out during the decade of the 2Ks!
Spider-Man (2001)
Spider-Man has been a my favorite comic superhero since I was a little kid. So when I caught this trailer in the theaters (shortly before it got yanked because of the tragic events of 9/11) I nearly wet myself. It starts off like it could be any cops and robbers type film, and many people probably just passed it off. Then something grabs the helicopter.

On Person of Interest, Sarah Shahi Trades 'Wink- Wink, Flirt-Flirt' for Being 'The Ultimate Bad-Ass'
There’s not a whole lot Sarah Shahi can say about her role on this Thursday’s Person of Interest (CBS, 9/8c). But what she does reveal, she reveals with relish. Plus… it’s Sarah Shahi, so we’re going to allow it.
At the time of Shahi’s casting, series creator Jonah Nolan said of her role as Sam Shaw, “If James Bond and Sarah Conner had a kid, Shaw would kick its ass.” The actress herself ups the ante, summing up Shaw as “the love child of Catwoman and Jason Bourne.”

With the announcement today that Disney has purchased Lucasfilm and that they plan to continue the Star Wars saga with episodes VII, VIII and IX rolling out every two years, we thought we'd throw out some casting choices for the iconic lead roles... of characters not under a helmet or heavy prosthetics. Obviously at this point, we don't know how far after the events of Return of the Jedi that the new films will take place, or how big of a role, if any, that these characters will play in the new films. This is all just for fun.
Luke Skywalker - Anton Yelchin
Last played by Mark Hammill at age 32.
23-year-old Anton Yelchin is a tad young, but with a bit of bulking up he'd make a fine Jedi. He's also a bit of a veteran when it comes to taking over iconic roles -- Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation,...

I’m not usually a fan of competition shows, but this one fascinates me. We’re given a terrific insight into the state of the art of special effects makeup, and the results are stunning. In the new season of Face Off we will lose judge Patrick Tatopolous after the premiere, as he goes off to work on the production design of 300: Battle of Artemisia.
His replacement, Neville Page, brings some exceptionally excellent credentials. Read about him, some of the very famous guest judges, some of the challenges, and all of the contestants, right here:

Fast forward this 1979 interview with Tom Waits to the 2:22 mark and hear an uncanny similarity to Heath Ledger's Joker from The Dark Knight. Sofia Coppola has added several names to her upcoming feature film The Bling Ring including Leslie Mann, Taissa Farmiga, Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, Claire Pfister and Georgia Rock. Mann will play a mom of two of the girls from the Bling Ring, Broussard is the male lead of the movie. The six join previously cast Emma Watson with shooting expected to begin this spring in Los Angeles. About a decade ago, director McG was attached to a "Superman" reboot that would have shook the whole franchise up. With a screenplay by a pre-"Lost" J.J. Abrams, Mr. G’s film would’ve made bold changes to the Superman mythos, like seeing Big Blue killed in his first major exposure to humanity and making him the center of a Kryptonian prophecy about saving the world.
It never came to be, but in an interview with The Playlist, McG talked briefly about the changes he was prepared to make. As it turns out, we probably would’ve never seen a proper "Iron Man" movie had his "Superman" come to fruition.
"We had Robert Downey Jr. locked up to be Lex Luthor," he said, "which I think would have been extraordinary."
Indeed, it would’ve been an inspired, exciting take on the famously manic mad scientist, though the Abrams script...

Super Bowl Sunday has come to be known as a holiday for football fans, but it’s also a memorable time for movie buffs. Over the last few decades, it’s no secret that million-dollar ads have nearly eclipsed the game itself, but high-profile film commercials are a relatively new phenomenon that has erupted over the last decade or so. With that in mind, and as we look forward to Sunday’s blockbusters, here are some flicks that unveiled crucial footage at Super Bowls past:
“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” (2009)
Last year’s biggest ad , a Variety survey showed that 83% of the people polled remembered seeing the trailer during Super Bowl – the most of any of the movie ads, which is unsurprising since it then went on to gross the most of any of the films advertised. Ultimately, the proof of that advertising power was in the pudding as the...

Disappointed by the reception of Superman Returns, Warner Bros. has no current plans to take another stab at the Man of Steel. But hot off the heels of the wildly successful (and rightly so) Star Trek reboot, could J.J. Abrams change that?
Maybe, maybe not. Though he hasn’t been spoken to or even approached about the possibility, Abrams told MTV News this week that taking on a Superman reboot “would be a blast.”
It wouldn’t be the first time he tried to tackle the tale of Kal-El. Abrams once wrote a script for a Superman film that never saw the light of day. “Writing that script was a long process,” he explained. “It was a very passionate character for me. As a kid growing up it meant a lot to me. It would be wonderful and fun to see that brought back. I don’t know what Warners...

It's almost September, folks, and you know what that means: Time to wash the sand out of your unmentionable areas, put away the grill and say sayonara to those lazy, hazy days of summer.
But before we wave goodbye to the beach, let's mix ourselves one last glass of lemonade, sit on the front porch and take a look at the biggest winners in a summer full of cinema. Because just when it looked like we might drown in the shark-infested waters of movie mediocrity, these films came along like David Hasselhoff in red trunks to save the day.

Screenwriter and comic book scribe Kevin Smith says he believes Star Trek director J.J. Abrams is the perfect choice for the next Superman movie.
Smith (right) told MTV: "Based on Star Trek, I'd hand it to J.J. [Abrams] and say 'Go!'
"Clearly, the dude knows how to craft a really warm and wonderful piece of mainstream entertainment. And that's what Star Trek is - it works like crazy as a mainstream movie, and it has warmth."
He continued: "[Star Trek] isn't just assembled by committee and you don't see the heart. There's heart there and humanity.
"So give him Superman, because that's what people seemed to miss in the last one - they just felt like Superman wasn't Superman. He wasn't human enough."
He added: "There are two sides to the Superman equation. Kryptonian birth but raised on Earth."
