Plot: Reacher is pulled from his vagabond life by a coded message informing him that a member of the 110th – his elite group of Army Special Investigators – has been murdered. He and some of his former military cohorts reunite to investigate and soon realize the case is bigger than they ever could have imagined.
Review: After two feature films starring Tom Cruise, the Prime Video version of Reacher brought Alan Richtson into the title role to personify the physical stature of Lee Child’s vision for the character. The first season of Reacher was not quite a mystery and not quite an action series but was closer to the novels than Cruise’s take on the tale. Fans took to the new Reacher, and a second season was ordered early, with a third on the way before the sophomore run even debuted. Luckily, the second season of Reacher is even better than the first,...

Doom Patrol wrapped its second season on Thursday with a cliffhanger so intense, we almost screamed Robotman’s favorite four-letter word when the screen cut to black.
Let’s start with a quick recap: Setting aside their personal issues for a hot minute, Cliff, Rita, Vic, Larry and Miranda rushed to the carnival to stop Dorothy from releasing the Candlemaker. But rather than battling her imaginary friends, they found themselves facing off against their own; Cliff was torn to pieces by a foul-mouthed representation of Jesus, Rita engaged in a dance-off against a demonic version of the paper doll she once used for inspiration,...

The 100, Season 2, Episode 15, “Blood Must Have Blood, Part One”
Written by Aaron Ginsburg and Wade McIntyre
Directed by Omar Madha
Airs Wednesdays at 9pm (Et) on The CW
On this week’s The 100, Clarke and Lexa lead the Grounders and Sky People against the Mountain Men, Raven and Wick attempt to disable Mount Weather’s power, Octavia officially becomes a Grounder, and Bellamy teams with Jasper and Maya.
If there’s one thing The 100 can guarantee, it’s the ability to shock and awe, especially when it comes to the show’s multitude of characters–the majority of The 100‘s plotlines hinge on its characters’ decisions and behavior and general response to their surroundings. So, it’s no surprise that, in an episode so full of major and minor players in the midst of war, there are going to be some downright traumatizing and intense moments.

24: Live Another Day, Season 1, Episode 6: “4:00 Pm -5:00Pm”
Written by David Fury
Directed by Omar Madha
Airs Mondays at 9pm (Et) on Fox
The party’s over everyone. It was good while it lasted, and we can all just pack up and go home now. It took until the halfway point of this season, but we finally got there: we have a mole in the building.
Jeez.
24 is a wonderfully enjoyable show at its best. At its worst, it offers the same rehashed ideas over and over. While old tropes can work when they’re given a fresh twist, as we’ve seen over the last few weeks, a mole working in the CIA is narratively constraining. There are usually only two ways for it to play out: the mole is successful (as Nina Myers so very nearly was) or fails miserably. There is a third option,...

Written by Sang Kyu Kim & Patrick Somerville
Directed by Omar Madha
Airs Mondays at 9pm (Et) on Fox
And so it is that one of 24‘s top love stories enters a new chapter. Jack and Audrey have an incredible history together, even by Jack’s standards. He killed her ex-husband, for heaven’s sake. They haven’t seen each other for years, and now they cross paths once again, with Jack a suspected terrorist (which everyone with half a brain in this universe should know is hogwash) and Audrey firmly entrenched in her father’s administration. Before the star-crossed lovers finally reconvene, there is plenty of other business to get through, most of it related directly to the impending terror attacks.
After saving Jack’s life, Kate manages to slip away with the flight key and send the data to Chloe.

Believe, Season 1, Episode 2: “Beginner’s Luck”
Written by Jonas Pate and Bobby Arnot
Directed by Omar Madha
Airs Sundays at 9pm (Et) on NBC
The series premiere of Believe presented two major groups fighting to get to Bo and her supernatural powers. While the connection of Winter and his team to Bo was clear, the involvement of Skouras was murkier, as the audience saw Winter’s ex-partner primarily as the employer of a mercenary sent to retrieve Bo. This week’s episode delves further into Skouras and his motivations with regards to Bo, in a solid episode that, while lacking the visual flair of the pilot, does a good job furthering the story and adding new complications.
The clear affection that Skouras displays towards Bo this week adds an interesting wrinkle to the proceedings. The way both Winter and Skouras talk about Bo makes it...

Almost Human, Season 1, Episode 5: “Blood Brothers”
Written by Cole Maliska
Directed by Omar Madha
Airs Mondays at 8 P.M. Et on Fox
In its first few episodes since the action-packed series premiere, Almost Human has delivered thrills, humor, and clever integration of technology into the criminal and crime-fighting worlds, and this episode is no exception. “Blood Brothers” takes another step forward in creating memorable characters out of the people on both sides of an increasingly complex investigation and offers some answers to lingering questions.
So far, we’ve gotten to see a glimpse of Kennex’s personal life, which consists of synthetic limb maintenance and solitude. From what we’ve seen, he only interacts freely with Dorian during their morning commute (the highlight of every episode) and directly following the closing of a case. Revolution, Season 2, Episode 7: “The Patriot Act”
Written by Anne Coffell Saunders & Matt Pitts
Directed by Omar Madha Airs Wednesdays at 8 pm (Et) on NBC
Revolution has never met a plot point it couldn’t wait to plunge into. After bubbling under the surface for a couple of episodes, Aaron’s pyrokinesis (or rather, his seemingly telepathic connection with the nanobots) is the prime focus. Gene, who we learned last week has been working with the Patriots, is outed to his family as a traitor. Both of these narrative turns could have spooled out over six to seven episodes before making a real impact. Instead, the show rushes right into them.
This week, the Patriots are unsurprisingly keen to get their hands on Aaron and his new powers and our heroes rush to get Mr. Pittman and Cynthia out of Willoughby, where they will be met by Monroe (who, surprise!

Person of Interest Season 3, Episode 3: “Lady Killer”
Directed by Omar Madha
Written by Amanda Segel
Airs on Tuesdays at 10 Pm on CBS
When Person of Interest first started, it had a simple cast of Reese and Finch (Jim Caviziel and Michael Emerson, respectively) being hunted every week by Taraji P. Henson. This has now transformed to a full roster of characters (assets)-many of them women- that the show has its disposal. “Lady Killer” drives this point home time and time again when Reese and Finch receive a number from a regular Casanova, a real “lady killer” (get it, guys?) who they suspect might be a stalker/serial killer. To find out for themselves, they bait the waters with Carter, Shaw (Sarah Shahi), and political fixer Zoe Morgan (Paige Turco). While Reese and Finch are focused on the new number, Root (Amy Acker) is continuing her crazy-person-athon at the...

Directed by Omar Madha
Written by David Weddle and Bradley Thompson
Airs Monday nights at 9 on SyFy
Since Defiance is content to draw a lot of attention to its soundtrack, I am content to talk about that. In “The Serpent’s Egg,” we find out that Alak Tarr is the Defiance DJ, broadcasting from the top of St. Louis’ Gateway Arch. Why the hell not, right? If you’re compiling a list at home, the song that opens this episode is “Ride Captain Ride,” which doesn’t serve as much of a purpose as the closing song that Alak dedicates to Christie (who can apparently see Alak all the way up at the top of the arch, because her vision is amazing!) – “Lovesong” by The Cure. Connecting soundtrack lyrics to the written content of TV episodes might be a tired exercise, but...

Last week, Defiance concluded its episode with a montage set to a cover of Nirvana’s “Come As You Are.” This week, a cover of “Ooh Child” (originally by The Five Stairsteps, covered by Beth Orton; some of you may be more familiar with the sampling in 2Pac’s “Keep Ya Head Up”) sends the episode off. As concluding pieces go, these songs draw attention to themselves in jarring ways not simply because these songs are relatively well known but because using a relatively well known song kind of forces a certain “reading” of the scene or episode as a whole. When Mad Men used The Beatles’ “Tomorrow Never Knows” in the episode “Lady Lazarus,” active viewing and thoughtful analysis in that montage became necessities. Defiance...

Grimm Episode 2.11 ‘To Protect and Serve Man’
Written by: Dan E. Fesman
Directed by: Omar Madha
Airs Friday 9.00pm Est on NBC
When is Hank going to get a girlfriend?
I’ve asked this question twice now and from this week’s show, I wasn’t the only one anxious to see Hank, whose last romantic experience was a disastrous liaison with the Hexenbeist Adelind, having a little more luck in the romance stakes.
The writers kept their cards close to their chest, but our patience was rewarded. The Da Lauren Castro – played by Lisa Vidal in full panther mode – did the thing that DAs always do when they are around cops in TV shows: refuse to reopen cases and threaten all and sundry with jail time, but once all that was over, Hank and Lauren were allowed to simper at each other in a way which told us that Love was in the Air.

“To Protect and Serve Man”
Written By: Dan E. Fesman
Directed By: Omar Madha
Original Airdate: 9 November 2012
In This Episode...
Seven years ago, when Hank was still in uniform, he answered a domestic violence call. Inside, he found the Kreski brothers, one alive, one dead. The shooter had run out the back door. Hank gave chase and arrested him. The whole time, the suspect, Craig Ferren, was crying that “they are monsters” and “they wanted to eat me.” The authorities suspected he was laying the groundwork for an insanity plea, but he was found fit to be tried and was sentenced to death.
Ferren is 36 hours away from the death chamber, and now with Hank’s knowledge of the Wesen underworld, he is starting to wonder if maybe Ferren was telling the truth. Nick agrees to help. They interview Ferren, who has given up on anyone believing him.

Alphas Review, Season 2, Episode 4, “When Push Comes to Shove”
Written by Adam Levy
Directed by Omar Madha
Airs Mondays at 10pm (Et) on SyFy
During its first 15 episodes, Alphas has consistently depicted the fine line that exists between using the super powers for good or evil. Even the gentle Dr. Rosen has revealed that his intentions haven’t always been so positive in the past. The pilot episode depicted Cameron using his marksmanship to commit murder. He was under the influence of another Alpha, but that doesn’t make the actions less dangerous. In “Rosetta”, the apparently friendly Anna (Liane Balaban) was revealed as the leader of the Red Flag terrorist organization. Her group committed vile acts, but the government’s response to them showed plenty of reasons for their tactics. Even the villainous Stanton Parrish isn’t a one-note character who wants to destroy everyone for no reason. He...

Grimm Episode 119 "Big Feet" Written By: Stephen Carpenter, Jim Kouf, and David Greenwalt Directed By: Omar Madha Original Airdate: 11 May 2012 In This Episode... A rancher hears something disturbing his horses late one night. He goes out and shoots to scare it away, but whatever it is got one of his horses. Juliette comes over (remember, she's a vet) to check out the horse, which looks to have been attacked by a wolf or something. They notice footprints and blood (from where the rancher shot the attacker) and follow the trail. This leads to a crime scene - a pair of kids, torn apart by a wild animal. Story by: Alan Difiore & Dan E. Fesman
Teleplay by: Richard Hatem
Directed by Omar Madha
Airs Fridays at 9pm Et on NBC
It always annoys me when characters in shows have professions as an add-on rather than an integral part of who they are and in that vein, I mentioned in last week’s review that it would be nice if we got to see Juliette (who is a vet) actually treating a sick animal, rather than just mentioning it from time to time between being patient with Nick when he yet again gets called away just as they are sitting down to eat or she’s turning back the bed covers with an expectant look in her eye.
This week my wish is granted and when Wesen trouble strikes, Juliette is the one at the other end of the phone, called out to treat an injured horse.

The death of a bully confronts Nick with another Grimm creature: this time a mouse-man with father issues. Munroe gets a warning that his involvement with a Grimm is not meeting with approval with certain Grimm-world factions.
Grimm Review, Season 1, Episode 9 “Of Mouse and Man”
Written by Alan Difiore and Dan E. Fesman
Directed by Omar Madha
Airs 9pm Fridays on NBC
I now have a theory about the quality of Grimm episodes. It’s similar to the one which applies to the Star Trek movies: every odd numbered film is good, every even numbered film is crap, except in Grimm’s case it’s not the number of the episode which makes the difference. It’s the presence or otherwise of rodents.
For my money, the worst episode of the series so far was Danse Macabre, a too literal interpretation of the classic story Pied Piper of Hamelin.

Grimm Episode 109 "Of Mouse and Man" Written By: Alan Difiore & Dan E. Fesman Directed by: Omar Madha Original Airdate: 20 January 2012 In This Episode... A body turns up in a dumpster, stabbed through the neck. The victim, Lenny Drake, was a bully and a batterer. No one was upset to see him dead. He was last seen by Natalie, is abused girlfriend who was leaving him; Marty, the timid downstairs neighbor who tried to break up the fight; and Mason, the slick attorney who lives across the hall. A second body turns up, killed and disposed of in the same way. This victim was a mechanic, and just as mean and disliked as Drake. The cops naturally suspect Mason, but they...

"It's all been such a waste." - Lois Throughout its run, Big Love has sought to shine a light on the abuses of the polygamist lifestyle and belief system that the Henricksons adhere to, offering a spectrum of fundamentalism through which to see the center at its core. For all of the abuses at Juniper Creek, the old ways embraced by Roman Grant and his false prophet son Albert, they seem infinitely more sane than, say, the Greenes or Bud Mayberry. This prism has been useful in the past because it clearly establishes that the Henricksons don't walk the fine line that many other believers of the Principle do. In their vision of this religion, there is the semblance of free will: there are no forcible sealings, no teenage brides, no breaking of laws or inverting the beauty of the divine Principle. But that's not quite the case as we learned last week.

Caprica 1x14, "Blowback," finally had its international premiere yesterday, for lack of a better word. The episode was written by Kevin Murphy and directed by Omar Madha, and it's definitely one of the best episodes so far. If you have seen it, wherever you may have seen it, you can rate it below.
Space posted the Innerspace podcast on their website the other day and it's definitely something worth checking out, especially if you're also a fan of Stargate Universe. You can find it at Spacecast.com. Among other things, they explain why Caprica isn't available for viewing on their site and voice their surprise at Syfy's decision to pull the show off the air and alienate their BSG fan base the way they did.
They have also apologized to the Canadian viewers who missed last week's episode because their DVRs hadn't registered the last minute schedule change in time.
