Scott Gibson, he's our man! If he can't do it... we'll have to re-cast the part again!
Remember when we told you that Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) was going to play the lead in the upcoming zombie film, First Platoon? Yeah, well, he's not now. Instead Scott Gibson will be playing Rock Brannigan, leader a group of zombie hunters in the apocalyptic southwest.
And who is Scott Gibson you might ask? Well, he did have a bit part in Diary of the Dead, and was in a few episodes of The Pacific, and if that doesn't ring any bells, he looks a little like this guy:
Still doesn't ring any bells? Look him up on IMdB! We've done enough already! As for the rest of the First Platoon cast, all is still well. The movie features Arron Shiver (The Book of Eli), Jennifer Skyler, Malcolm McDowell, Sid Haig , and John Kassir.

Back in June we were the first to reveal that Firefly actor Alan Tudyk was following his star turn in Tucker and Dale vs. Evil with the lead in zombie comedy First Platoon. Well sadly we have bad news for Tudyk fans…
First Earth Films have been in touch to let us know that Scott Gibson (Haldane in the Spielberg/Hanks epic The Pacific), will be taking over the role of ‘Rock Brannigan’ – the leader of a motley team of zombie fighters in the post-apocalyptic desert southwest – replacing Alan Tudyk. From the press release:
Gibson, a well-respected actor whose previous credits include Lucky Number Slevin as well as small parts in a number of other films (including a bit in George Romero’s zombie film Diary of the Dead), starred recently as Capt. Andrew Haldane in three episodes of the Steven Spielberg – Tom Hanks project The Pacific to excellent critical reviews.

A casting change has occurred on First Platoon , the zom-com we introduced to you in June . It seems Alan Tudyk has ducked out of the lead role of "Rock Brannigan," making room for actor Scott Gibson ( The Pacific ). The actor is no stranger to the dead having played a very small role in George Romero's Diary of the Dead . In Platoon , he's the leader of a motley team of zombie fighters in the post-apocalyptic desert southwest. Arron Shiver and Jennifer Skyler, Malcolm McDowell, Sid Haig and John Kassir also star for writer-director Chris Gabriel.

If you’re one of those people anxious to see “Firefly’s” Alan Tudyk kill some zombies for some yuk-yuks, then you’re out of luck. (Hey, that rhymes!) First Earth Films has announced that “The Pacific’s” Scott Gibson has replaced Alan Tudyk as the lead in their upcoming zombie-comedy “First Platoon”. Scott Gibson, critically acclaimed as ‘Ack Ack Haldane’ in the Spielberg/Hanks epic The Pacific, will be taking over the role of ‘Rock Brannigan’ in the Chris Gabriel zombie comedy First Platoon, set for release in 2011. A quick round-up of some new poster that have emerged for some of the films we’ve been talking about recently, including First Platoon starring Alan Tudyck, the internet phenomenon that is Mortal Kombat Rebirth, and a new hi-res poster for Black and Blue Films’ remake of the classic film The Asphyx.
First Platoon stars Alan Tudyck as Rock Brannigan, leader of a ragtag squad of zombie hunters in the post apocalyptic Southwest. The film is set for release in Spring/Summer 2011, and comes from writer/director Chris Gabriel. Meanwhile The Asphyx tells the story of as a scientist whose experimentation with the “asphyx,” or spirit of death, grants him immortality. But whose research brings death to those he loves. The film, written and directed by Matthew McGuchan, is on target for a release in 2011.
I’m not sure how official the Mortal Kombat poster is, but First Platoon comes...

Zombies? Comedy? Alan Tudyk? Ok!
Alan Tudyk, known to many for his portrayal of Wash in the TV series Firefly and the post-cancellation movie Serenity is about to enjoy some more horror comedy. Tudyk was last seen in the horror comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil - at least, if you caught it at Sundance or other film festivals - and will continue this trend with First Platoon, a zombie comedy with Tudyk playing "Rock Brannigan," leader a group of zombie hunters in the apocalyptic southwest.
Joining Tudyk are Arron Shiver (The Book of Eli) as "Pete Davis" and newcomer Jennifer Skyler as "Molly Mcguire" with Malcolm McDowell (Clockwork Orange) as "Rex Necro," Sid Haig (Night of the Living Dead 3D) as "Pa Jericho," and John Kassir as "Burke." Skyler, Shiver and Tudyk will undergo military training from Capt. Dale Dye (military consultant on Band of Brothers), which seems a little extreme for a zombie comedy,...

It's almost a guarantee that at any moment, a new zombie movie is the works, like this. Bloody-Disgusting has learned that cult favorite actor Alan Tudyk (last seen in Tucker & Dale vs Evil, Death at a Funeral, and on "Dollhouse") is the latest to join a great cast for an indie zombie comedy being put together called First Platoon. Written and directed by Chris Gabriel, First Platoon is about a ragtag squad of zombie hunters in the post apocalyptic Southwest. The film is an "homage to a genre virtually created by George Romero," and stays true to the classic zombie lore, while offering a fast moving adventure with plenty of hilarity. Read on! Tudyk will lead the squad of zombie hunters and will play a character named "Rock Brannigan." The rest of the First Platoon contains: Malcolm McDowell (Halloween) as "Rex Necro", Sid Haig (House of 1000 Corpses) as "Pa...

Styd reports that former “Firefly”/”Serenity” guy Alan Tudyk has signed on to star in the post-apocalyptic horror flick “First Platoon”. Tudyk is coming off a co-starring role in the indie slasher/comedy “Tucker and Dale Versus Evil” and whatever roles Joss Whedon can scrounge up for him, not that there’s anything wrong with that. It’s a good gig if you can get’em. In “First Platoon”, Tudyk will play Rock Brannigan, the leader of a ragtag squad of zombie hunters in the post-apocalyptic Southwest. Why would you go out to hunt zombies instead of hiding from them is a mystery the film will no doubt shed light on upon release. Also in the cast are Arron Shiver, Jennifer Skyler, Malcolm McDowell as Rex Necro, Sid Haig as Pa Jericho and John Kassir as Burke. “First Platoon” is from writer/director Chris Gabriel, and is scheduled for release...

We admit we're curious about Silent Night, Zombie Night, Sean Cain's upcoming zombie movie about a cop who has to survive a zombie apocalypse along with his soon-to-be ex-wife and her lover, the cop's partner (talk about the holiday blues!), but with little news about the movie for months, and the holidays around the corner, we thought this little movie was getting lost.
Enter DreadCentral, who is sponsoring a screening in Las Vegas on December 5 at 8:00 Pm at the Sci-Fi Center (2520 State Street). Cain will be there, along with producer Wes Laurie, and cast members Chris Gabriel (Santa Zombie), Luke Y. Thompson (Box-Mart- any relation to Resident Evil: Apocalypse's K-Mart?), Sean Decker (Death Meta Zombie), and Chad Clinton Freeman (Polly Staffle Zombie).
More screenings are being announced on the movie's website, including one at the Santa Barbara Film Festival in February 2010. Just in time for the holidays!

Sin City is suddenly becoming a genre town. The Blacklist Film Festival brought their indie flavor to Las Vegas; Live Evil hit the Sci-Fi Center; and the Fangoria Trinity Of Terrors took over The Palms.
Now William Powell’s comic shop and grindhouse theater hosts the Las Vegas premiere of Sean Cain’s Silent Night, Zombie Night (which we last covered here). The event, celebrating independent cinema, Christmas and zombies all in one night, takes place December 5 at 8 p.m. and costs $5.
Cain, who Fangoria calls a “Indie Horror Specialist,” will be on hand for a Q&A and autograph signing session after the film, as will producer Wes Laurie, and co-stars Chris Gabriel (”One Long Day,” “Devotion,” “S4″), Chad Clinton Freeman ("Killer Biker Chicks"), Luke Y. Thompson (”Wicked Lake,” “Mad Cowgirl”) and Sean Decker ("Alluvial"). Dread Central's Heather Wixson, aka The Horror Chick, will be hosting the event.

Director Chris Gabriel loves Plan 9 from Outer Space. So much so in fact that he thought he'd try to live up to his idol by making a throw back to the old B&W B-movies of the past in the same style. Made for less than his monthly car payment and shot in 14 days over three weeks, “S4” is a sci-fi comedy, crammed full of cheap special effects, over the top acting, extremely dramatic music, outlandish scenarios and silly movie mistakes. Here's what Gabriel had to say about his love for Mr. Wood:
“Ed Wood really believed in what he was doing. He took a tiny little budget from investors who didn’t want to make horror movies in the first place, some serious time constraints, and he poured his guts into that movie and everything else that he made."
“He didn’t let a little thing like his cast...
