On August 16, Priscilla took to social media to post a touching remembrance of her former husband on the 47th anniversary of his death.
“47 years and not a day goes by that I don’t think of you,” she captioned the Instagram post, which also included a short video clip featuring a black-and-white photo of the late King of Rock ‘n’ Roll accompanied by the song “Always On My Mind.”
A few days earlier, Priscilla also paid tribute to Elvis’ mother, Gladys Presley. Priscilla never met Gladys, who died in 1958, a year before she met Elvis. But she knew how much she meant to her husband.
“Today, August 14th, Elvis’ mother Gladys passed,” Priscilla wrote in the Instagram post.

Some of Elvis Presley’s closest friends were members of his entourage. They traveled with him, served as bodyguards, and assisted him in times of need. In return, Elvis paid them and showered them with lavish gifts. While one of his longtime friends said this was a benefit of knowing Elvis, it was also something of a curse.
Elvis’ friend said the singer was both a blessing and a curse to know
Elvis watched a good deal of television in his lifetime. One of his favorite programs was a show called The Millionaire.
“Elvis was crazy about a TV show … called The Millionaire,” his friend Joe Esposito said, per the book Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley by Peter Guralnick. “Each week an ordinary person with a problem answered a knock at his door to find a messenger in a suit who announced that he was presenting the person...

When Barbra Streisand and Jon Peters were interested in remaking A Star is Born in 1974, their first choice for John Howard Norman was Elvis Presley. Reportedly, the King of Rock and Roll was very interested in the role, but someone else held the key to Presley’s participation in the project. Who’s to blame for?
Elvis Presley was ‘hooked’ on the idea of remaking ‘A Star Is Born’
Barbra Streisand and Jon Peters met with Elvis Presley to discuss the project in early 1974. At the time, Presley was performing at Las Vegas’ Caesars Palace.
Presley hadn’t made a film since 1969’s Change of Habit. However, he was reportedly looking to return to the movie industry and wanted to be taken seriously as an actor. Therefore, the meaty role of a fading rock star greatly appealed to him.

In 1966, Elvis Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, decided he needed to exercise stronger control over his celebrity client. Elvis’ drug use had ramped up, something everyone in his life was aware of, and he fell and hurt himself while under the influence. Parker warned Elvis that if he didn’t take his advice, he would lose everything.
Elvis’ manager told him he would lose everything after he fell and hit his head
In 1966, Elvis’ friend, Joe Esposito, came to pick the singer up to go to the studio. He found him in the house, woozy, with a sizable lump on his head.

Elvis Presley was so famous that he became a God figure to many of his fans. People worshiped him in his lifetime and continue to be dedicated fans even decades after his death. According to Elvis’ bodyguard, Red West, the singer liked being treated this way. West said Elvis wanted people to treat him as though he were a god.
Elvis’ bodyguard said the singer liked being a ‘God figure’
Elvis was incredibly generous to the people in his life. He gave away lavish gifts — houses, horses, cars, and more — without thinking twice about it. Still, he reportedly didn’t pay his entourage all that much considering how much money he made. West, who knew Elvis for years, believed this was intentional.

Elvis Presley’s bodyguards were like family to him. They often lived with him, took trips with him, and were there whenever he needed them. In the earliest years of Elvis’ career, they did all of this for very little money. One of his longtime bodyguards, Red West, said this led to an embarrassing moment for him in a New York City bathroom.
Elvis Presley’s bodyguard felt embarrassed while in New York
In 1956, Elvis traveled to New York City and made an appearance on Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey’s Stage Show. Afterward, he went to dinner at the Brown Derby restaurant.

According to the other people in Elvis’ life, they were a little too devoted to the musician. One of Elvis’ backup singers said there was always a level of tension in the room when Elvis’ entourage was around. It wasn’t always clear if Elvis was aware of this.
