Allison Mack, the actress best known for her role as Chloe Sullivan on Smallville, has been released from prison after serving the majority of her three-year sentence for racketeering and racketeering conspiracy.
The charges against Allison Mack — who was found guilty in 2021 — stem from her involvement with Nxivm, the Mlm company aka cult founded by Keith Raniere, who himself was found guilty of numerous crimes in 2019, including sex trafficking, sexual exploitation and conspiracy. He was sentenced to a $1.75 million fine and 120 years in prison, in addition to being ordered to pay $3.5 million in restitution to more than 20 victims. Mack was specifically involved with a secret society within Nxivm called Dos, which recruited women for exploitation, grooming, forced labor, and more. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Mack previously released a statement that read, in part: “I threw myself into the teachings of Keith Raniere with everything I had…I believed, whole-heartedly,...

In late summer 2020, “The Vow” emerged as a creepily potent hit docuseries, which grew virally as it rolled out. Plunging deep within little-understood “self-help group”-turned-cult Nxivm to examine the hold leader Keith Raniere had over his acolytes, the documentary series excelled when depicted sympathetic people in situations the average viewer likely could not imagine. How had these women allowed things to get so out of control that they’d agreed to be branded, or to starve themselves, or to voluntarily hand over compromising materials for potential blackmail? “The Vow” had no hard answers, but it was exacting and thorough in posing the questions.
Almost too thorough, perhaps: Its new follow-up, “The Vow, Part Two,” is three episodes shorter, and has a tighter focus that benefits its storytelling. Having established Nxivm’s methods of exerting control over women in the first go-round, director Jehane Noujaim (without Karin Amer this time...

The Vow is returning with a six-episode second season, promising a rare view into Nxivm founder Keith Raniere’s innermost circle, including co-founder Nancy Salzman.
“My whole company was destroyed and my whole life fell apart,” says Salzman, Nxivm’s president and co-founder with Raniere, in the trailer (below), which also features Raniere speaking from prison. “Going into this, I thought Keith was innocent. I was wrong,” Salzman tells the filmmakers.
The Vow, Part Two begins at the start of Raniere’s trial, with the finale capturing the verdict. The follow-up, directed by Jehane Noujaim, debuts Oct. 17, with weekly episodes on HBO and HBO Max.
Much has happened in the two years since The Vow first exposed Nxivm to a mainstream audience.

Former Nxivm member, Allison Mack, who is currently awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to sex trafficking and racketeering for her involvement in the cult, has reportedly filed for divorce from her wife, Nicki Clyne. E! News can confirm, through online records, that Allison filed the paperwork in Orange County on Friday, Dec. 11. Both Allison and Nicki have yet to publicly comment on their separation. The pair tied the knot in February 2017, federal prosecutors said in court documents previously obtained by E! News. At the time, People reported the couple's marriage was ordered by Nxivm co-founder Keith Raniere—who was sentenced to life in prison back...

On Monday afternoon, the day before Keith Raniere was set to be sentenced, Make Justice Blind, an assortment of ardent Nxivm devotees, gathered to hold a press conference in front of the Brooklyn federal courthouse in downtown Brooklyn. The group, including Battlestar Galactica‘s Nicki Clyne, set out to present what they referred to as “smoking gun” evidence that would supposedly justify a call for a delay in sentencing for Keith Raniere, the leader of the alleged sex cult Nxivm who has been incarcerated at the Metropolitan Correctional Center since his 2018 arrest.

A federal judge has denied convicted Nxivm cult leader Keith Raniere’s second request for a new trial based on his accusation that prosecutors intimidated “Battlestar Galactica” actor Nicki Clyne and another potential witness who would have testified in his favor.
U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis nixed Raniere’s motion, saying it was filed too late after his conviction last year on racketeering, racketeering conspiracy, wire fraud conspiracy, forced labor conspiracy, sex trafficking conspiracy and two counts of sex trafficking. In the order written on Friday, Garaufis also rejected the claim that Clyne and Michelle Hatchette could have provided information that was otherwise unknown to Raniere’s defense team.
“The substance of the testimony that Ms. Hatchette and Ms. Clyne allege that they would have given is also not new; indeed, far from containing some sort of evidentiary revelation, the hypothetical testimony described in their affidavits covers ground that...

“The Vow” finale hinted at several big interviews gearing up for the second installment on HBO. Any additional details on what we can expect for season two will have to wait until 2021 (when next set of episodes is scheduled to drop). Until then, here’s an update on all the major players in the docuseries that exposes the practices of the self improvement organization and cult known as Nxivm. What’s next for Nxivm founder Keith Raniere, Nancy Salzman and whistleblowers Mark Vicente, Bonnie Piesse and Sarah Edmondson?
Do not read if you haven’t watched the season one finale of “The Vow” — spoilers ahead.
What do we know about the future? In September, filmmakers Karim Amer and Jehane Noujaim revealed their plans to interview all parties involved in Nxivm to Variety “We reached out to everybody involved — many people, on all sides of the story — and we are continuing to film.

Nicki Clyne will continue to support Keith Raniere, even if her affiliation with Nxivm keeps her from speaking to wife Allison Mack. In a new interview with CBS This Morning, Clyne and five other members of the alleged cult claimed that Raniere, who was found guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering by a jury last year, was wrongfully convicted. They told reporter Nicki Battiste that they believe there was prosecutorial misconduct and that the media unduly influenced the trial. Clyne's continued support of the purported cult leader and the organization, however, means that she and her wife of three years are not allowed to speak, as outlined in Mack's bail...

HBO's documentary The Vow follows the downfall of Nxivm, Keith Raniere's faux self-help cult, but it also raises questions about whether Nxivm is still operational now. Although the organization has sustained severe damage, thanks to the revelations about its abuses and its disturbing teachings, it's not entirely down for the count.
The actual status of Nxivm is more complicated now, given that most of its leadership is currently facing legal consequences for the group's abuses. Their official website no longer exists, and an archived version from before it was taken down reads, in part, "It is with deep sadness that we inform you we are suspending all Nxivm/Esp enrollment, curriculum and events until further notice . . . While we are disappointed by the interruption of our operations, we believe it is warranted by the extraordinary circumstances facing the company at this time. During the muggy last weeks of June 2019, Keith Raniere, the leader of the self-help organization Nxivm, sat in a downtown Brooklyn courthouse, owlish face peeking out from beneath a halo of pewter hair, looking like an overgrown prep-school boy in a jewel-toned crewneck, as prosecutors recounted a litany of his alleged crimes and peccadilloes, each more depraved and debauched than the last.
Raniere, they alleged, coerced a bevy of bright, ambitious women, including a former WB star and the daughter of an actress from Dynasty, into sending him photos of...

Both Mack and Clyne's social media accounts feature photos with each other. Think about the concept of cults — the decades of stories we’ve heard about seductive recruitment techniques and destructive power plays — and the concept might seem like something separate from everyday life. But perhaps, thanks to an influx of new narratives of late, we’re finally processing the danger of cult-like power in all aspects of life. From modern politics where followers turn a blind eye to their leaders’ propaganda, to revelations of how victims of sexual harassment and assault have been kept quiet, it’s all too clear that fear, lies, and silence aren’t the only tools used by those who might abuse their power over others.
These elements make for fascinating scripted stories as well as documentaries, as seen when recent programs like Netflix’s “Wild, Wild Country,” Paramount Network’s “Waco,” and Hulu’s “The Path” have explored cults and their powerful leaders. But it’s...

The name "Godkiller" should ring a bell as we've been talking about the transmedia series of graphic novels, illustrated films, and novels for about five years, and now it's entering yet another phase as an indie weekly comic.
From the Press Release:
Black Mask Studios, the creator-supporting comics publisher founded by Brett Gurewitz (Bad Religion, Epitaph Records, Anti- Records), Matt Pizzolo (founder Occupy Comics, Halo-8), and Steve Niles (30 Days Of Night), is launching its first weekly comic book series as Pizzolo brings his beloved modern classic sci-horror franchise Godkiller to comic book stores for the first time.
"I think we've all gotten used to a binge diet for episodic stories. Personally, I can barely handle waiting a week between episodes of 'Boardwalk Empire'; a month or more between comics sometimes feels like the decade-long wait for another Game of Thrones book," explained Pizzolo, "so I'm hopeful a weekly schedule might...

Here at PopWatch, we’re reminiscing about the pop culture moments that we still can’t get over — no matter how much time has passed.
“How many of us ended up with the people we wanted to be with? Got stuck with the best of limited options. And why? Because the ones we really want, that we’ve really loved, are dead, dying, turned out to be Cylons and they didn’t know it.”
So says Chief Galen Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) as he mourns his wife’s death. But he isn’t talking about losing his wife — he’s talking...

Numbered lists are nothing new to WhatCulture but never has the job of putting together one been so pleasurable for us. Spending the past weekend as valuably as any other, we drew up a list of those beautiful ladies of contemporary pop culture who are undeniably talented and hot but who don’t (usually) hog the spotlight or make it onto the Top sexy lists of FHM or others.
The task we set ourselves… to highlight the 50 sexiest woman whose faces you’ve ever never seen or if you have been fortunate enough to be previously acquainted, you’ve not forgotten them. Even if you can’t quite remember their name.
You’ll enjoy this list. It’s an eye-catcher…
50: Beth Behrs
One half of the waitresses at CBS’ uber popular show Two Broke Girls, Beth Behrs is one of the sexiest blondes on TV but she so nearly wasn’t.

The road from concept to comic to DVD/Blu-ray has been a long, rocky one for the illustrated film Godkiller, mainly because demand has been so high that Halo-8 Entertainment simply hasn't been able to keep up. To make up for the postponement of the Blu-ray release to a still yet to be determined date, company President Matt Pizzolo (who also wrote and directed the film) has announced that purchasers of the standard-def DVD will be entitled to a free Godkiller Blu-ray.
From the Press Release:
"We're not trying to double-dip on the DVD and Blu-ray. The hi-def version is being delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, but we want Godkiller fans to feel confident getting the film now and knowing we'll take care of them when the Blu-ray comes out," explained Pizzolo.

Halo-8 and Matt Pizzolo's "illustrated film" Godkiller has added eight cities to its You-Demand-It Theatrical Tour, and in addition word has come down from their VOD partner, Gravitas Ventures, that 19 of the 20 major cable VOD providers have selected the film for their summer programming, ensuring it will be available in over 75 million homes starting May 25th.
"Now that's just ridiculous," said writer-director Pizzolo. "I set out to make a movie for misfits, lunatics, and sociopaths ... based on the response, I can only say it's refreshing to see so many crazy people are in positions of influence. Our weird little mind-bomb will be invading a lot of homes this summer."
The VOD carriers supporting Godkiller include Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Charter, Verizon, Cablevision, DirecTV, Dish, Rcn, Insight, Mediacom, Bresnan, Suddenlink, Rogers, Videotron, Sasktel, Cogeco, Shaw, Telus, and more as well as digital carriers Amazon, Apple iTunes, Playstation Network, and Xbox Live.

During their recent panel at WonderCon entitled "Halo-8: Comic Books and Illustrated Films," Halo-8 reps announced their next original comic book/illustrated film transmedia combo will be Matt Pizzolo's The Long Knives, "a giallo horror, bare-knuckled revenge movie with an otherworldly Tim Burton-esque aesthetic." The artwork will be courtesy of newcomer illustrator Ana Ludeshka.
"I wanted to do a gritty realism horror with a dark-hearted toughness like the first Mad Max, which totally kicked me in the nuts when I first saw it as a kid," explained Pizzolo, "but I didn't want the over-the-top visuals to fall into torture porn so it seemed like an awesome fit to do this in a giallo style and tie in the stylized horror of my faves Mario Bava and Dario Argento. Ana Ludeshka's ethereal visuals and extreme use of color are a perfect fit, and I was super excited to discover her for this.

It takes place in a dark future after economic collapse, after nuclear holy war, and after Earth is colonized by alien races. Tommy and his kid sister Lucy live in an orphanage in one of the few remaining city-states, but Lucy is critically ill and desperately in need of a new heart. Tommy's odyssey to find a new heart for his sister begins when he follows an organ-stealing prostitute named Halfpipe out of the city-state and into the savage borderland known as Outer City.

A Conversation with Writer-Director Matt Pizzolo & Actresses Danielle Harris, Tiffany Shepis, Katie Nisa, and Nicki Clyne about the creation of new illustrated film from Halo 8.
Jason Anders/Fangoria: So let's start with the creation of Godkiller- where did the idea first originate, and also, what were the first drafts of the graphic novel like? Were there any major changes made?
Matt Pizzolo: I first started tooling around with the world of Godkiller when I was on tour in Europe for my first film Threat. While visiting churches and museums, I was really struck by the juxtaposition of pagan art and Christian art. Especially in Italy and France, there's this enduring legacy of holy war in the art itself... I was fascinated by how religions and mythologies and cultures compete for disciples through art. And I was also struck by the similarities between Vatican City and Disneyland.
So I...

Actress Nicki Clyne has appeared in numerous genre-centric projects. While The Twilight Zone, Dead Like Me, The Dead Zone, Smallville, and Dark Angel all have spots on her resume, it was her role as Crewman Specialist Cally Tyrol on the acclaimed Sci-Fi incarnation of Battlestar Galactica that rocketed her into sci-fi stardom.
Starlog recently caught up with Clyne to discuss her life pre-and-post BSG, and find out what lies ahead...
Jason Anders/Starlog: So let's talk about growing up in British Columbia and your time in school; did you always know as a child in school plays that you wanted to act professionally, and at what point did you ultimately decide to put your energy into making a career out of your talent?
Nicki Clyne: I think on some level I always wanted to be an actor. I've been performing for as long as I can remember, whether it was on stage,...

Danielle Harris, star of four films in the Halloween franchise, as well as pictures like The Last Boyscout, City Slickers, Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead, and the television series Roseanne was kind enough to sit down with me at the 2009 Spooky Empire convention in Orlando, Florida to talk about her career. The interview was filmed live, but due to surrounding noise I have transcribed the conversation below.
Ja/Fangoria: First of all, can I say how nervous I am that we are making a film with John Landis sitting right over there?
Danielle Harris: (laughs)
Ja: We're here at the Spooky Empire convention in Orlando, Florida, and how has it been going for you so far?
Dh: It's been good! It's been really busy.
Ja: Have you met any creeps so far?
Dh: Not really at this show, only a handful. (laughs)

The other day we reported that the release date for Matt Pizzolo's Godkiller "illustrated film" was being pushed back a week to October 6th due to the quantity of retail orders Halo-8 had received for the DVD. We should all have such problems, right? In any event, to help fuel our anticipation, the company has debuted the box art and special features that await us on October 6th.
The DVD will include:
A beautifully mastered widescreen presentation of Godkiller: Walk Among Us - Episode 1 (25 mins) High-resolution, digital PDFs of the Godkiller comic book Issues 1 & 2 (68 pages) Chapter 1 of the brand new prequel novel Godkiller: Silent War included on the DVD as an mp3 audiobook, an e-book Pdf, and an audiobook that is playable right through your DVD player (43 mins) [Set in the near future, Godkiller: Silent War tells the story of Joe Junior, a 17-year-old draft-dodger who is recruited by an armed cult of populist assassins and thrust into a secret world of international cabals, alien conspiracies, and the countdown to Armageddon.]

It isn't typical for an announcement of a DVD's release date being pushed back to be considered "good news", but in the case of Matt Pizzolo's episodic illustrated film Godkiller, the filmmaker couldn't be more ecstatic. So, what gives?
Retail orders for Halo-8's upcoming Godkiller: Walk Among Us - Episode 1 DVD exceeded studio expectations to the point where the DVD's street date had to be pushed back a week. In order to manufacture enough product to fulfill retail demand and ensure all stores would receive DVDs on the same date, Halo-8 was forced to move Godkiller Episode 1's street date from September 29th to October 6th.
"I'm sincerely astonished," said writer-director Pizzolo. "These episodic DVDs were really supposed to be limited edition collectibles for fans to get at comic conventions and festivals. I mean, it's totally unorthodox to release a film in shortform, serialized DVDs... I never...

Halo-8 Entertainment has acquired the film rights to Image Comics' Loaded Bible: Jesus vs Vampires, the studio has announced. Director Matt Pizzolo and Emmy-winning producer Brian Giberson have signed up to adapt the series as an "illustrated film", combining elements of anime, radio drama, video games and motion comics. Alien vs Predator actor Lance Henriksen will contribute voice-over work to the project, along with Danielle Harris, Nicki Clyne and Bill Moseley. "Tim is a fantastic storyteller who's managed to take a ridiculously high-concept idea like Jesus vs Vampires and turn it into a moving and personal story of betrayal and redemption, almost in spite of the wild setup," said Pizzolo. As announced previously, Halo-8 Entertainment will be releasing its Godkiller: Walk Among Us "illustrated film" series in the form of bi-monthly, episodic DVDs. Additionally, we've learned that each of the three DVDs will come packaged with a serialized audiobook of the prequel novel Godkiller: Silent War, written by the film's award-winning writer/director Matt Pizzolo.
If it sounds a little confusing, let Pizzolo explain, "Godkiller is split into two periods... there's the pre-nuke world of Silent War and there's the post-nuke world of the graphic novel and illustrated film Walk Among Us. So Silent War is only a prequel insofar as it happens beforehand, but its events drive the Walk Among Us story, and many of the same characters appear in both. I'm super excited that the two stories can roll out together in this integrated way--everything about this project is unorthodox and crazy, hopefully everyone will enjoy the ride.

Pop Skull (review) will make its debut both on DVD and on Televandalism July 28, 2009. We normally don't participate in such blatant promotional pushes for films, but as Godkiller looks so sweet and we were offered branded wallpaper of one character, we couldn't pass up the opportunity. So what character did we get? The bad guy, Dragos! You can see a slimmed down version of the mobile wallpaper to the right.

We've been following the progress of Halo 8 and Matt Pizzolo's "illustrated film" adaptation of the Godkiller comic for some time now, and finally our patience has paid off with the release of its official trailer.
Halo-8 plans to release Godkiller in an innovative, serialized style that brings the episodic nature of comic books to DVD.

"The plan right now is to screen Godkiller at some upcoming theatrical events we have planned that will tie in a few of our upcoming releases (notably Pop Skull and In a Spiral State), show it at some really cool festivals if we can coordinate the dates right, and then...

Halo-8 Entertainment has released the trailer for its upcoming illustrated film (minimally animated) Godkiller featuring the gorgeous artistry of illustrator Anna Muckcracker. Set in some kind of future organ-harvesting fascist/anarchist/who knows? state, the oppressed (prerequisitely bedazzled by tattoos, manic-panic, and leather corsets) fight 'the system' while acting downtrodden and Punk Rock.
The film showcases the talents of animator Brian Giberson, award-winning filmmaker Matt Pizzolo, and stars the voice talents of Danielle Harris (Halloween 4 & 5, Halloween remake), Lance Henriksen, Justin Pierre, Tiffany Shepis, Bill Moseley, Nicki Clyne (Battlestar Galactica), Katie Nisa, Lydia Lunch, and Davey Havoc.
